교회소개Today’s passage shows us why the Holy Spirit came.
오늘 본문은 성령께서 왜 오셨는지를 보여줍니다.
The coming of the Holy Spirit was not merely an event of experiencing mysterious phenomena.
성령 강림은 단순히 신비한 현상을 경험하게 하신 사건이 아닙니다.
It was the event in which God came to commune more closely with us, help us understand His will, and lead everyone who calls on the name of the Lord to salvation.
하나님께서 우리와 더 가까이 교통하시고, 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫게 하시며, 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자를 구원으로 이끄시기 위해 오신 사건입니다.
Therefore, today we will consider three reasons why the Holy Spirit came.
그러므로 오늘 우리는 성령 강림의 이유를 세 가지로 살펴보려고 합니다.
1.The Holy Spirit came to commune intimately with us. (1–13)
성령님께서 강림하신 것은 우리와 친밀히 교통하시기 위함입니다.
On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were gathered together in one place.
오순절에 제자들은 한자리에 모여 있었습니다.
They had experienced the resurrection of Jesus, yet they were still living in fear and anxiety.
그들은 예수님의 부활을 경험했지만 여전히 두려움과 불안함 가운데 있었습니다.
Then a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven, and what seemed to be tongues of fire came to rest on each of them.
그때 하늘로부터 급하고 강한 바람 같은 소리가 들리고, 불의 혀처럼 갈라지는 것이 각 사람 위에 임했습니다.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them.
그리고 모두 성령의 충만함을 받아 성령이 말하게 하심을 따라 다른 언어로 말하기 시작했습니다.
But what is important here is not simply that they spoke “strange languages.”
그런데 여기서 중요한 것은 단순히 “이상한 언어를 말했다”는 데 있지 않습니다.
The passage emphasizes that people heard “the wonders of God” in their own languages.
본문은 사람들이 “각각 자기의 언어로 하나님의 큰 일을 들었다”고 강조합니다.
“How is it that each of us hears them in our native language?” (Acts 2:8)
“우리가 다 각 사람의 난 곳 방언으로 듣게 되는 것이 어찌 됨이냐” (행 2:8)
The heart of Pentecost is that God began once again to communicate with humanity.
성령 강림의 핵심은 하나님께서 인간과 다시 소통하시기 시작하셨다는 것입니다.
At the Tower of Babel, human pride divided languages and shattered relationships.
바벨탑 사건에서는 인간의 교만 때문에 언어가 갈라지고 관계가 무너졌습니다.
People tried to exalt themselves without God, and in the end they could no longer understand one another.
사람들은 하나님 없이 높아지려고 했고, 결국 서로 이해하지 못하게 되었습니다.
But at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit restored broken communication by enabling people to proclaim the wonders of God in the languages of every nation.
그러나 오순절에서는 성령께서 각 나라 언어로 하나님의 큰 일을 말하게 하심으로 깨어진 소통을 회복시키십니다.
God is not One who works only in ways people cannot understand.
하나님은 인간이 알아듣지 못하는 방식으로만 역사하시는 분이 아닙니다.
He enters into each person’s life and language and speaks in ways they can understand.
각 사람의 삶과 언어 속으로 들어오셔서 이해할 수 있도록 말씀하시는 분입니다.
Love does not come as incomprehensible noise.
사랑은 이해할 수 없는 소음으로 다가오지 않습니다.
It comes with a voice that can be understood.
알아들을 수 있는 음성으로 찾아옵니다.
Therefore, Pentecost was the event in which God came near to commune intimately with humanity.
그래서 성령 강림은 하나님께서 인간과 친밀히 교통하시기 위해 가까이 오신 사건입니다.
This event was especially repeated later in the house of Cornelius.
특별히 이 사건은 훗날 고넬료의 집에서 다시 반복됩니다.
When Peter saw the Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues, he realized that God had accepted them just as He had accepted the Jews.
이방인들이 성령을 받고 방언하는 모습을 본 베드로는 하나님께서 이방인도 동일하게 받으셨음을 깨닫게 됩니다.
God was not only the God of the Jews.
하나님은 유대인만의 하나님이 아니셨습니다.
The Gentiles also were people whom God loved, spoke to, and desired to commune with.
이방인도 하나님께서 사랑하시며 말씀하시고 교통하기 원하시는 대상이었습니다.
The Holy Spirit is the evidence that God has made human beings His partners in conversation.
성령은 하나님께서 인간을 당신의 대화의 상대로 삼으셨다는 증거입니다.
Therefore, a Spirit-filled life is not merely a life filled with many mysterious experiences.
그러므로 성령 충만한 삶은 단순히 신비한 체험을 많이 하는 삶이 아닙니다.
It is a life in which our relationship with God is restored, we come to understand the heart of God, and we walk together with Him.
하나님과의 관계가 회복되고, 하나님의 마음을 알아가며, 하나님과 동행하는 삶입니다.
Even today, many people live with broken relationships.
오늘날에도 많은 사람들이 관계의 단절 속에 살아갑니다.
Even when living together as family, people often fail to understand one another’s hearts.
가족과 함께 살아도 서로의 마음을 모를 때가 많고,
Even within the church, there are people who feel lonely.
교회 안에서도 외로움을 느끼는 사람들이 있습니다.
Above all, sin and wounds distance us from our relationship with God.
무엇보다 죄와 상처는 하나님과의 관계를 멀어지게 만듭니다.
Sometimes even when we pray, God feels far away.
기도해도 하나님이 멀게 느껴지고,
Even when we hear the Word, our hearts may remain closed.
말씀을 들어도 마음이 닫혀 있을 때가 있습니다.
But the Holy Spirit does not leave us alone.
그러나 성령님은 우리를 홀로 두지 않으십니다.
Even today, the Holy Spirit enters into our lives and helps us realize that God still loves us, speaks to us, and remains with us.
성령님은 오늘도 우리의 삶 속으로 들어오셔서 하나님께서 여전히 우리를 사랑하시고 말씀하시며 함께하신다는 것을 깨닫게 하십니다.
When we are weary, He comforts us.
우리가 지쳐 있을 때 위로하시고,
When we are afraid, He gives us peace.
두려워할 때 평안을 주시며,
Even when we cannot pray, He intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.
기도하지 못할 때에도 탄식으로 우리를 위해 간구하십니다.
Therefore, we do not come before God only after we become perfect.
그러므로 우리는 완벽해진 후 하나님께 나아가는 것이 아닙니다.
We must come before the Lord with our wounds and weaknesses just as they are.
상처와 연약함 그대로 주님 앞에 나아가야 합니다.
“Lord, my heart is closed.”
“주님, 제 마음이 닫혀 있습니다.”
“Lord, grant me the grace to hear Your voice again.”
“주님, 제 안에 다시 하나님의 음성을 들을 은혜를 주옵소서.”
When we come before Him in this way, the Holy Spirit touches our dry hearts and leads us again into the grace of intimate fellowship with God.
그렇게 나아갈 때 성령께서는 메마른 마음을 만지시고, 하나님과 친밀히 교통하는 은혜 안으로 다시 인도하십니다.
2.The Holy Spirit came to help us understand the will of God. (14–17)
성령님께서 강림하신 것은 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫게 하시기 위함입니다.
People were amazed when they saw the disciples speaking after receiving the Holy Spirit.
사람들은 제자들이 성령을 받고 말하는 모습을 보며 놀랐습니다.
But some people did not understand the work of God and mocked them, saying, “They have had too much wine.”
그러나 어떤 사람들은 하나님의 역사를 이해하지 못하고 “새 술에 취하였다”라고 조롱했습니다.
Then Peter stood up and said, “It is only nine in the morning. These people are not drunk, as you suppose.” (Acts 2:15)
그때 베드로가 일어나 말했습니다. “때가 제 삼 시니 너희 생각과 같이 이 사람들이 취한 것이 아니라.” (행 2:15)
Then Peter quoted the prophet Joel:
그리고 베드로는 요엘 선지자의 말씀을 인용합니다.
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” (Acts 2:17)
“하나님이 말씀하시기를 말세에 내가 내 영을 모든 육체에 부어 주리니 너희의 자녀들은 예언할 것이요 너희의 젊은이들은 환상을 보고 너희의 늙은이들은 꿈을 꾸리라.” (행 2:17)
Here, prophesying, seeing visions, and dreaming dreams do not simply mean having the power to predict mysterious future events.
여기서 예언하고, 환상을 보고, 꿈을 꾼다는 것은 단순히 신비한 미래를 맞히는 능력을 말하는 것이 아닙니다.
It means that the Holy Spirit enables people to understand the will of God and see the direction in which the Kingdom of God is moving.
성령께서 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫게 하시고, 하나님 나라가 이루어질 방향을 보게 하신다는 뜻입니다.
That sons and daughters prophesy means that even those who appear young and lacking in the eyes of the world can come to understand and speak the will of God.
자녀들이 예언한다는 것은, 세상적으로 어리고 부족해 보이는 사람이라도 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫고 말하게 된다는 뜻입니다.
God sometimes reveals His will through children and the weak in order to shame the proud who consider themselves wise.
하나님은 스스로 지혜롭다고 여기는 교만한 자들을 부끄럽게 하시려고, 때로는 어린아이와 약한 자를 통해 하나님의 뜻을 드러내십니다.
That young men see visions means that the passion of youth is no longer driven by lust and selfish ambition, but begins to look toward the Kingdom of God.
젊은이들이 환상을 본다는 것은, 젊음의 열정이 정욕과 인간적인 야망에 끌려가지 않고 하나님의 나라를 바라보게 된다는 뜻입니다.
When a young person decides not to use his knowledge and skills merely for personal success, but to offer them for the Kingdom of God, that is the work of the Holy Spirit.
젊은이가 자신이 배우고 익힌 지식과 기술을 자기 성공만을 위해 쓰지 않고, 하나님의 나라를 위해 드리겠다고 작정하는 것은 성령님의 역사입니다.
William Wilberforce was a young politician, but he did not use his eloquence and influence merely for personal advancement.
윌리엄 윌버포스는 젊은 정치인이었지만 자신의 말솜씨와 영향력을 개인의 출세만을 위해 쓰지 않았습니다.
After his conversion before God, he embraced the abolition of the slave trade as his calling.
그는 하나님 앞에서 회심한 후 노예무역 폐지를 자신의 사명으로 붙들었습니다.
The passion of a young politician no longer remained as human ambition, but became a tool for establishing God’s justice and mercy.
젊은 정치인의 열정이 인간적인 야망에 머물지 않고, 하나님의 정의와 자비를 세우는 도구가 된 것입니다.
David Livingstone was a man trained in medicine.
데이비드 리빙스턴은 의학을 배운 사람이었습니다.
He did not use his medical knowledge and skills merely for stable success, but devoted them to missions and medical ministry in Africa.
그는 자신의 의학 지식과 기술을 안정된 성공만을 위해 쓰지 않고, 아프리카 선교와 의료 사역을 위해 드렸습니다.
For him, medicine was not a means of exalting his own name, but a tool for proclaiming the gospel and saving lives.
그에게 의학은 자기 이름을 높이는 수단이 아니라, 복음을 전하고 사람을 살리는 도구가 되었습니다.
Missionary Underwood also came to the land of Korea at a young age to preach the gospel and devote himself to education, Bible translation, and church planting.
또 언더우드 선교사는 젊은 나이에 조선 땅에 들어와 복음을 전하고, 교육과 성경 번역과 교회 설립에 헌신했습니다.
His youth and learning became seeds for building the Kingdom of God in a foreign land.
그의 젊음과 배움은 낯선 땅에서 하나님 나라를 세우는 씨앗이 되었습니다.
In this way, when the Holy Spirit gives young people a vision, the passion of youth becomes not a fire of selfish desire, but a flame that shines for the Kingdom of God.
이처럼 성령께서 젊은이에게 비전을 주시면, 젊음의 열정은 욕망의 불길이 아니라 하나님 나라를 밝히는 불꽃이 됩니다.
The knowledge they have learned becomes not a tool for pride, but a tool for service.
배운 지식은 교만의 도구가 아니라 섬김의 도구가 되고,
The skills they have developed become not merely a means for success, but a pathway to save lives.
익힌 기술은 성공만을 위한 수단이 아니라 사람을 살리는 통로가 됩니다.
That old men dream dreams means that growing old does not cause people to lose their desire for life, but instead causes them to keep setting their hearts on fulfilling the will of God for the rest of their days.
늙은이들이 꿈을 꾼다는 것은, 나이가 들었다고 삶의 의욕을 잃는 것이 아니라 남은 호흡 동안에도 하나님의 뜻을 이루기 위해 마음을 쓰게 된다는 뜻입니다.
People sometimes dream about the things they think about and care about most in daily life.
사람은 평소에 자주 생각하고 마음을 쓰는 것이 꿈속에도 나타날 때가 있습니다.
The thoughts and plans deeply held in the heart remain in the subconscious and may continue into dreams.
마음 깊이 품고 있는 생각과 계획이 잠재의식 속에 남아 꿈으로 이어지기도 합니다.
Therefore, when Scripture says that the Holy Spirit causes old men to dream dreams, it does not mean that old age is a time merely to organize life and withdraw from everything.
그러므로 성령께서 늙은이들로 꿈을 꾸게 하신다는 것은, 노년이 되었으니 이제 인생을 정리하고 물러나라는 뜻이 아닙니다.
Rather, it means that the Holy Spirit causes them to continue asking, “What more can I do for the Lord and the gospel while I still have breath?”
오히려 “호흡이 있는 동안 내가 주님과 복음을 위해 무엇을 더 할 수 있을까?”를 계속 생각하게 하신다는 뜻입니다.
Before falling asleep, they think about the work of the Lord.
잠들기 전에도 주의 일을 생각하고,
Even in dreams they carry the work of God in their hearts.
꿈속에서도 하나님의 일을 품고,
And when they awaken, they begin once again to plan for the Kingdom of God.
깨어나서도 다시 하나님 나라를 위해 계획하게 하시는 것입니다.
This holy passion does not come from human desire, but from the heart given by the Holy Spirit.
이런 거룩한 열정은 인간적인 욕심에서 나오는 것이 아니라 성령께서 주시는 마음입니다.
The Holy Spirit is not One who makes people powerless and lifeless.
성령은 사람을 무기력하게 만드는 분이 아닙니다.
The Holy Spirit enables even children to speak the will of God, helps young people see the vision of the Kingdom of God, and causes older people to continue dreaming for the Lord until the very end.
성령은 어린 사람에게도 하나님의 뜻을 말하게 하시고, 젊은 사람에게도 하나님 나라의 비전을 보게 하시며, 늙은 사람에게도 끝까지 주님을 위해 꿈꾸게 하시는 분입니다.
Today, many people live without a clear direction in life.
오늘날 많은 사람들이 삶의 방향을 잃고 살아갑니다.
The younger generation grows weary under the pressure of success and competition, and the older generation sometimes feels useless and discouraged.
젊은 세대는 성공과 경쟁의 압박 속에서 지쳐가고, 나이 든 세대는 자신이 이제 쓸모없다고 느끼며 마음이 무너질 때가 있습니다.
But the Holy Spirit does not leave our lives to be wasted.
그러나 성령께서는 우리의 인생을 헛되게 버려두지 않으십니다.
He gives young people a vision for the Kingdom of God, and gives older people dreams to live for the gospel until the end.
젊은이에게는 하나님 나라를 향한 비전을 주시고, 노년에게는 끝까지 복음을 위해 살아갈 꿈을 주십니다.
Therefore, a Spirit-filled life is not merely an emotionally excited state.
그러므로 성령 충만한 삶은 단순히 감정적으로 뜨거운 상태가 아닙니다.
It is a life that understands the will of God and offers itself for the Kingdom of God.
하나님의 뜻을 깨닫고, 내 삶을 하나님 나라를 위해 드리며 살아가는 삶입니다.
When the Holy Spirit comes upon us, our knowledge, skills, experience, and remaining time all become tools for the Kingdom of God.
성령께서 임하시면 우리의 지식도, 기술도, 경험도, 남은 시간도 하나님 나라를 위한 도구가 됩니다.
May all of us live looking toward the will of the Lord until our final breath within that grace.
그 은혜 안에서 우리 모두가 마지막 호흡까지 주의 뜻을 바라보며 살아가기를 소망합니다.
3.The Holy Spirit came so that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord may be saved. (18–21)
성령님께서 강림하신 것은 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자마다 구원에 이르게 하시기 위함입니다.
Peter continued quoting the prophet Joel and proclaimed the final purpose of the coming of the Holy Spirit.
베드로는 요엘 선지자의 말씀을 계속 인용하며 성령 강림의 마지막 목적을 선포합니다.
“And I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants, both men and women, and they will prophesy.” (Acts 2:18)
“또 내가 내 영을 내 남종과 여종들에게 부어 주리니 그들이 예언할 것이요.” (행 2:18)
And at the end, he declares this promise:
그리고 마지막에는 이렇게 선언합니다.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 2:21)
“누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 받으리라.” (행 2:21)
This passage shows that the coming of the Holy Spirit was not only for a few special people.
이 말씀은 성령 강림이 몇몇 특별한 사람만을 위한 사건이 아니라는 것을 보여줍니다.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit often came upon specially chosen people such as kings, prophets, and priests.
구약 시대에는 왕이나 선지자나 제사장처럼 특별히 선택된 사람들에게 성령이 임하는 경우가 많았습니다.
But now God says that He will pour out His Spirit even upon male and female servants.
그러나 이제 하나님께서는 남종과 여종에게까지 성령을 부어 주신다고 말씀하십니다.
In that society, servants were not regarded as honorable people.
당시 사회에서 종은 높게 여겨지는 존재가 아니었습니다.
But God called all people beyond social status and class.
그러나 하나님은 신분과 계층을 넘어 모든 사람을 부르셨습니다.
This means that God does not discriminate based on appearance or human condition.
이는 하나님께서 사람을 외모나 조건으로 차별하지 않으신다는 뜻입니다.
Not only educated people. Not only powerful people. Not only Jews.
배운 사람만이 아닙니다. 힘 있는 사람만도 아닙니다. 유대인만도 아닙니다.
The Holy Spirit came so that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord may receive salvation.
누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자마다 구원을 받게 하시기 위해 성령께서 오신 것입니다.
Here, “calling on the name of the Lord” does not simply mean speaking His name with our lips.
여기서 “주의 이름을 부른다”는 것은 단순히 입술로 이름만 말하는 것이 아닙니다.
It means depending on Jesus Christ and returning to Him.
예수 그리스도를 의지하며 그분께 돌아오는 것입니다.
It means admitting that we cannot live by our own strength and righteousness, and holding on to the Lord as our Savior.
자신의 힘과 의로 살 수 없음을 인정하고, 주님을 나의 구원자로 붙드는 것입니다.
The Holy Spirit is the One who does exactly that work.
성령께서는 바로 그 일을 하십니다.
People naturally struggle to return to God on their own.
사람은 스스로 하나님께 돌아오기 어려워합니다.
Because of pride, people try to live by their own strength.
교만 때문에 자기 힘으로 살려고 하고,
Because of sin, they try to avoid God.
죄 때문에 하나님을 피하려고 합니다.
But when the Holy Spirit comes, hardened hearts begin to open.
그러나 성령께서 임하시면 굳은 마음이 열리기 시작합니다.
People begin to realize their sin and look to the cross of Jesus Christ.
자기의 죄를 깨닫게 되고, 예수 그리스도의 십자가를 바라보게 됩니다.
And finally they begin to cry out, “Lord, save me.”
그리고 마침내 “주님, 나를 살려 주옵소서”라고 주의 이름을 부르게 됩니다.
The Holy Spirit is not One who drives people into despair.
성령은 사람을 절망으로 몰아가는 분이 아닙니다.
He is the One who leads people into the way of salvation.
구원의 길로 이끄시는 분입니다.
Especially at Pentecost, people from many nations heard the wonders of God in their own languages, which was a sign that the gospel had been opened to all nations.
특별히 오순절에 여러 나라 사람들이 자기 언어로 하나님의 큰 일을 들은 것은, 복음이 모든 민족에게 열려 있다는 표지였습니다.
And later, when the same work of the Holy Spirit appeared in the house of Cornelius, it became evidence that God was calling even the Gentiles into salvation.
그리고 훗날 고넬료의 집에서 동일한 성령의 역사가 나타난 것은, 하나님께서 이방인까지도 구원의 대상으로 부르신다는 증거였습니다.
God speaks to every nation and every generation.
하나님은 모든 민족과 모든 세대를 향해 말씀하십니다.
And He never turns away anyone who calls on the name of the Lord.
그리고 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자를 외면하지 않으십니다.
Even today, many people think, “I am not worthy to come before God.”
오늘날에도 많은 사람들이 “나는 하나님께 나아갈 자격이 없다”고 생각합니다.
Some give up on themselves because of past failures and wounds.
과거의 실패와 상처 때문에 자신을 포기하기도 하고,
Others distance themselves from God because of guilt.
죄책감 때문에 하나님을 멀리하기도 합니다.
Still others grow more and more weary trying to solve everything by their own strength.
또 어떤 사람은 자신의 힘으로 문제를 해결하려다가 점점 더 지쳐갑니다.
But even today, the Holy Spirit continues to draw people’s hearts back to God.
그러나 성령께서는 오늘도 사람들의 마음을 하나님께로 이끄십니다.
“You cannot live on your own.”
“너 혼자 살 수 없다.”
“Return to the Lord.”
“주님께 돌아오라.”
“Call on the name of the Lord.”
“주의 이름을 부르라.”
The Holy Spirit continues to speak these words to us.
이 음성을 들려주십니다.
Salvation is not a reward given to perfect people.
구원은 완벽한 사람에게 주어지는 상이 아닙니다.
It is grace given to those who call on the name of the Lord.
주의 이름을 부르는 자에게 주시는 은혜입니다.
Therefore, a Spirit-filled life is not merely a life of experiencing emotional excitement.
그러므로 성령 충만한 삶은 단지 뜨거운 감정을 경험하는 삶이 아닙니다.
It is a life that depends on the name of the Lord every day.
날마다 주의 이름을 의지하며 살아가는 삶입니다.
We call on the name of the Lord when we are weary.
지칠 때도 주의 이름을 부르고,
We call on the name of the Lord when we are afraid.
두려울 때도 주의 이름을 부르고,
And even in the midst of tears, we call on the name of the Lord.
눈물 가운데서도 주의 이름을 부르는 것입니다.
Even today, the Holy Spirit helps us hold on to Jesus Christ and ultimately live in the grace of salvation.
성령께서는 오늘도 우리로 하여금 예수 그리스도를 붙들게 하시고, 마침내 구원의 은혜 안에서 살게 하십니다.
Today, let us summarize the message.
오늘 말씀을 정리하겠습니다.
The Holy Spirit came to commune intimately with us.
성령님은 우리와 친밀히 교통하시기 위해 오셨습니다.
The Holy Spirit helps us understand the will of God and look toward the Kingdom of God.
성령님은 우리로 하여금 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫고 하나님 나라를 바라보게 하십니다.
And the Holy Spirit leads everyone who calls on the name of the Lord into salvation.
그리고 성령님은 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자마다 구원에 이르게 하십니다.
Therefore, a Spirit-filled life is not merely a life that seeks special experiences.
그러므로 성령 충만한 삶은 단순히 특별한 체험을 추구하는 삶이 아닙니다.
It is a life that communes with God, looks toward His will, and depends on the name of the Lord every day.
하나님과 교통하며, 하나님의 뜻을 바라보고, 날마다 주의 이름을 의지하며 살아가는 삶입니다.
May we all live for the Kingdom of the Lord until the end by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
그 성령의 은혜 안에서 끝까지 주의 나라를 위해 살아가는 저와 여러분이 되시기를 축원합니다.

God our Father, full of love and grace, thank You for giving us grace through the message of the coming of the Holy Spirit today.
