The Apostles' Creed(NIV)

The Apostles' Creed begins with a belief in God's creation.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

If we believe that God created the world and made humans in His image, then we should live as special beings of God, fashioned in His image, and act as stewards of God. Living as stewards of God means using our health, talents, time, and material possessions in accordance with God's will.

The next confession in the Apostles' Creed is about confessing Jesus Christ as being incarnate as a human.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord:

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;

he descended into hell, the third day he rose again from the dead;

he ascend ino heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

The confession of faith in Jesus Christ as the Christ is explained in the Gospel of John as "the Word became flesh." God not only speaks to us but also came to this earth to live as He spoke. Jesus shows us God's sacrificial, self-giving love through His death on the cross. The cross is a symbol of that sacrificial and selfless love. Jesus reveals God's image to us and teaches us how we, as bearers of God's image, ought to live. Therefore, confessing Jesus' birth, death, resurrection, and ascension should accompany a life lived in selfless love within a right relationship with God.

The next confession in the Apostles' Creed is about the Holy Spirit and the Church.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

We must live believing in the invisible, divine God who is with us and helps us. This is at the core of a life of faith.

The Holy Spirit helps us remember and apply the Scriptures appropriately and leads us towards the truth found in Christ. Therefore, in our faith in the Holy Spirit, we shouldn't fall into mysticism but rather receive the Spirit's guidance to know Christ through the Scriptures and grow to be more like Him

the holy universal church,

God does not expect us to produce a superhero like Christ. The only superstar on this earth is Jesus. The Church lives by different values and actions than the world. Therefore, the Church is holy. The word 'holy' means being set apart.

The Church doesn't treasure possessions or fame that vanish like fleeting mist but values eternal virtues like faith, hope, and love. It's willing to let go of pride, safety, and personal gain if it means manifesting God's kingdom in the world. This is what it means to live by a different set of actions compared to the world.

God established the Church to reveal His kingdom in the world, signifying His guidance and protection. Without the Church, the world wouldn't understand what it means to experience God's guidance and protection

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

As forgiven individuals, we should forgive and love each other. If we can't forgive one another, it might indicate that we haven't received God's forgiveness. Today, society is termed consumerist, and this influence can seep into our church life, resembling shopping where we pick what we want. This form of faith is influenced by consumerism.

However, confessing through our faith that saints interact with one another acknowledges the importance of fellowship among believers in our spiritual lives. True communal worship requires communication and fellowship.

We see people attending large churches solely for worship, disinterested in fellowship with other believers. This confession of faith highlights that such a spiritual life is unhealthy. A healthy individual spiritual life is impossible without a healthy community.

So, as people who have been forgiven, we must forgive and love each other. The world can see the kingdom of God through the way we live under God's guidance and protection.

For God to forgive our sins is to establish a good relationship with us again. Our salvation is to restore our relationship with God and live as God's children and God's family.

the resurrection of the body,

Life on this earth isn't the end; even if we fall ill on earth, we believe that at the time of resurrection, we will have healthy bodies. We believe that the God who created this world will renew it. While we experience glimpses of God's kingdom on earth, it will be fully realized when Jesus returns.

In our lives today, before the completion of God's kingdom, we might face difficulties influenced by those who don't live righteously, and our own lives might not be perfect either. Hence, we absolutely need the help of the Holy Spirit.

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our eternal life isn't focused on avoiding death or living for a long time but rather on being in communion with God. Just as a flower, no matter how beautiful or fragrant, once cut and placed in a vase, it's considered dead. We possess eternal life through our connection with God. Hence, the Bible mentions that there is life for those who have the Son and no life for those who do not.

11And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.(1John 5:11-12)

We should live considering that our past self has died, and presently, Christ lives within us. We need to strip off the old self and clothe ourselves with Christ, embracing a transformation in our actions and thoughts.

20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.( Galatians 2:20)
