John 14:1–14
Today’s message is titled “Children Who Abide in the Love of Their Parents.”
오늘 말씀의 제목은 “부모의 사랑 안에 거하는 자녀”입니다.
What do children need most?
아이에게 가장 필요한 것은 무엇일까요?
Good grades, many talents, and a good environment are all important.
좋은 성적, 많은 재능, 좋은 환경도 필요합니다.
But what children need first is a heart that feels safe in love.
그러나 아이에게 가장 먼저 필요한 것은 사랑 안에서 안심하는 마음입니다.
When children have this assurance, they can grow in a healthy way.
이런 확신이 있을 때 아이는 건강하게 자랄 수 있습니다.
Today, Jesus tells us that those who dwell in the Father’s house do not need to be troubled.
오늘 예수님은 아버지의 집에 거하는 자녀는 근심하지 않아도 된다고 말씀하십니다.
In this time, we will look at what kind of life children live when they abide in the love of their parents.
이 시간 우리는 부모의 사랑 안에 거하는 자녀가 어떤 모습으로 살아가는지 함께 살펴보겠습니다.
1. Those who dwell in the Father’s house enjoy peace and assurance (vv. 1–4)
아버지의 집에 거하는 자는 안심과 평안을 누립니다.
Jesus said to His disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me.”
예수님은 제자들에게 “너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라. 하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿어라.”고 말씀하셨습니다.
The disciples were not at peace because they heard that Jesus would leave.
예수님이 떠나신다는 말씀을 들었기 때문에 제자들의 마음은 편치 않았습니다.
“What will we do now?” “Where should we go?” Their hearts were shaken, and they became anxious.
“이제 우리는 어떻게 하지?” “우리는 어디로 가야 하지?” 그들의 마음이 흔들리고, 불안해졌습니다.
At that moment, Jesus first looked not at their situation but at their hearts and spoke to them.
그때 예수님은 가장 먼저 그들의 상황이 아니라 그들의 마음을 바라보시며 말씀하십니다.
“Do not worry.” This means, “You are not alone.”
“걱정하지 말아라.” 이 말씀은 “너희는 혼자가 아니다”라는 뜻입니다.
So He said, “Believe in God; believe also in Me.” In other words, they are safe because they are in God the Father.
그래서 “하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿어라.”고 말씀하셨습니다. 즉, 그들이 하나님 아버지 안에 있기 때문에 안전하다는 말씀입니다.
Jesus explains this more clearly by saying, “In My Father’s house are many rooms.”
예수님은 그 이유를 “내 아버지 집에는 거할 곳이 많다.”는 말로 더 분명하게 설명하십니다.
Here, “the Father’s house” is a place where children dwell. What kind of place is a home?
여기서 “아버지 집”은 자녀가 머무는 자리입니다. 집은 어떤 곳입니까?
A home is not a place you enter by passing a test, nor a place you can stay only if you perform well.
집은 시험을 통과해야 들어가는 곳도 아니고, 잘해야만 머물 수 있는 곳도 아닙니다.
A home is simply a place you can return to. Even if a child falls outside, the child returns home.
집은 그냥 돌아갈 수 있는 곳입니다. 아이가 밖에서 넘어져도 집으로 돌아옵니다.
Because the child’s destination is the Father’s house, the child returns even after making mistakes or feeling hurt.
아이가 가는 곳은 아버지의 집이기 때문에 실수해도, 속상해도 돌아옵니다.
This is exactly what Jesus is saying to His disciples.
예수님은 지금 제자들에게 바로 그 말씀을 하시는 것입니다.
“You have a home to return to.” “You are not wanderers.” “The Father’s house is waiting for you.”
“너희에게는 돌아갈 집이 있다.” “너희는 떠돌아다니는 사람이 아니다.” “아버지의 집이 너희를 기다리고 있다.”
These words held the disciples’ hearts firmly. And Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.”
이 말씀이 제자들의 마음을 붙잡아 주었습니다. 그리고 예수님은 “내가 너희를 위하여 거처를 예비하러 간다.”고 말씀하셨습니다.
This means Jesus does not forget us. It means He is preparing a place for us to dwell.
이 말씀은 예수님이 우리를 잊지 않으신다는 뜻입니다. 우리를 위해 머물 자리를 준비하고 계신다는 뜻입니다.
Just as parents prepare meals, prepare a place to sleep, and wait for their children, Jesus prepares a place for us.
마치 부모가 아이를 위해 밥을 준비하고, 잠잘 자리를 준비하고, 기다려 주는 것처럼, 예수님은 우리를 위한 자리를 준비하십니다.
So we can think this way: “I am a person who has a place to go.” “I am someone who is being waited for.”
그래서 우리는 이렇게 생각할 수 있습니다. “나는 갈 곳이 있는 사람이다.” “나는 기다림을 받는 사람이다.”
These thoughts bring stability to our hearts. Then Jesus said, “I will come again and receive you to Myself.”
이 생각이 우리의 마음을 안정되게 합니다. 예수님은 이어서 “내가 다시 와서 너희를 내게로 영접하겠다.”고 말씀하셨습니다.
“To receive” means to welcome with joy. Jesus does not push us away. He receives us when we come to Him.
“영접한다”는 것은 기쁘게 맞아준다는 뜻입니다. 예수님은 우리를 밀어내지 않으십니다. 다가오면 받아주시는 분입니다.
When a child enters the home and the parents welcome the child warmly, the child feels at peace.
아이가 집에 들어올 때 부모가 반갑게 맞아주면 아이의 마음이 편안해집니다.
“Oh, I can be here.” That feeling is peace. Jesus gives us that peace.
“아, 나는 여기 있어도 되는구나.” 그 마음이 바로 평안입니다. 예수님은 우리에게 그 평안을 주시는 분입니다.
Finally, Jesus said, “You know the way where I am going.”
마지막으로 예수님은 “내가 어디로 가는지 그 길을 너희가 안다.”고 말씀하십니다.
The disciples did not understand everything, but they knew what was important. Because they were with Jesus.
제자들은 모든 것을 다 이해하지는 못했지만 중요한 것은 알고 있었습니다. 그들은 예수님과 함께 있었기 때문입니다.
Even if the path is not fully explained, if you are together, you will not lose the way.
길을 다 설명하지 않아도 함께 있으면 길을 잃지 않습니다.
It is the same for children. If they are with their parents, it is okay even if they do not know the way.
아이도 마찬가지입니다. 부모와 함께 있으면 길을 몰라도 괜찮습니다.
Because the parents hold their hands and lead them.
부모가 그 길을 아이들의 손을 잡고 가기 때문입니다.
Children who dwell in the Father’s house are not alone. So they do not live in fear.
아버지의 집에 거하는 자녀는 혼자가 아닙니다. 그래서 두려움 속에 살지 않습니다.
Because they have a place to return to, their hearts are at peace, and because someone receives them, they feel secure.
돌아갈 곳이 있기 때문에 마음이 편안하고, 받아주는 사람이 있기 때문에 안심할 수 있습니다.
Therefore, what children need most is not to learn many things, but first a place where they can feel safe.
그래서 어린이에게 가장 필요한 것은 많이 배우는 것이 아니라 먼저 안심할 수 있는 자리입니다.
“I am loved.” “I have a home to return to.” When they have this assurance, their hearts can finally experience peace.
“나는 사랑받고 있다.” “나는 돌아갈 집이 있다.” 라는 확신이 있을 때 비로소 마음이 평안을 누리게 됩니다.
Today Jesus tells us, “You do not need to be troubled. You have a Father’s house.”
오늘 예수님은 우리에게 “너는 근심하지 않아도 된다. 너에게는 아버지의 집이 있다.”고 말씀하십니다.
Those who believe this word will enjoy true peace in the Father’s love.
이 말씀을 믿는 사람은 아버지의 사랑 안에서 참된 평안을 누리게 됩니다.
2. The love of God is revealed through Jesus who gave Himself for us (5–10)
그 사랑은 우리를 위해 자신을 내어주신 예수님을 통해 드러납니다.
Thomas asked Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
도마가 예수님께 묻습니다. “주님, 어디로 가시는지 우리가 알지 못하는데 그 길을 어떻게 알겠습니까?”
Thomas is asking about the way. He does not know where to go or how to come to God.
도마는 길을 묻고 있습니다. 어디로 가야 하는지, 어떻게 하나님께 나아갈 수 있는지 모르겠다는 것입니다.
Then Jesus said, “I am the way.” And He also said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
그때 예수님은 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “내가 곧 길이다.” 그리고 이어서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았다.”
This means that when we look at Jesus, we can know what God is like.
이 말씀은 예수님을 보면 하나님이 어떤 분인지 알 수 있다는 뜻입니다.
So we need to look at Jesus. We need to follow His life and see who He is.
그래서 우리는 예수님을 보아야 합니다. 예수님이 어떤 분이신지 그분의 모습을 따라가 보아야 합니다.
One day, people brought a woman. They said she had sinned and tried to stone her.
어느 날, 사람들이 한 여인을 끌고 옵니다. 죄를 지었다며 돌로 치려 합니다.
Then Jesus stood among them. And He said, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.”
그때 예수님이 그 가운데 서십니다. 그리고 말씀하십니다. “너희 중에 죄 없는 자가 먼저 돌로 치라.”
One by one, they dropped their stones and left.
사람들은 하나씩 돌을 내려놓고 떠나갑니다.
Jesus said to the woman, “I do not condemn you. Go and leave your life of sin.”
예수님은 그 여인에게 말씀하십니다. “나도 너를 정죄하지 않는다. 가서 다시는 죄를 짓지 말라.”
This scene also warns us about our pride.
이 장면은 우리의 교만을 경계하게 합니다.
We often try to remove the speck from another person’s eye, while ignoring the plank in our own eye.
우리는 남의 눈의 티는 빼려 하면서도, 자기 눈의 들보는 보지 못할 때가 많습니다.
From this scene, we learn that God did not come to destroy us, but to save us.
이 장면을 보면 알 수 있습니다. 하나님은 우리를 무너뜨리려고 오시는 분이 아니라 우리를 살리려고 오시는 분입니다.
Another day, people brought a sick man. He could not move.
또 어느 날, 사람들이 병든 자를 데려옵니다. 움직일 수도 없는 사람입니다.
Jesus looked at him, not only his body but his whole life. And He said, “Get up, pick up your mat and walk.”
예수님은 그 사람을 보시고 그의 몸만이 아니라 그의 삶을 보십니다. 그리고 말씀하십니다. “일어나 네 자리를 들고 걸어가라.”
And the man stood up. God is not someone who watches from far away, but someone who comes into our pain and restores us.
그 사람은 일어납니다. 하나님은 멀리서 바라보시는 분이 아니라 우리의 고통 속에 들어오셔서 회복시키시는 분입니다.
Another day, Jesus sat and ate with a tax collector, someone people avoided. 또 어느 날, 예수님은 사람들이 피하고 싶어하는 세리와 함께 식사하십니다.
People complained, “How can He eat with such a person?”
사람들은 수군거립니다. “어떻게 저런 사람과 함께 먹을 수 있지?”
But Jesus stayed with him. God is not someone who only stays with the clean, but someone who comes to the loneliest places.
그러나 예수님은 그 자리에 앉아 함께 식사하십니다. 하나님은 깨끗한 사람만 가까이 하시는 분이 아니라 가장 외로운 자리까지 찾아오시는 분입니다.
And there is one last scene. Jesus carries the cross. He has no sin, yet He walks that path in silence.
그리고 마지막 장면이 있습니다. 예수님은 십자가를 지십니다. 아무 죄도 없으신 분이 침묵 속에서 그 길을 걸어가십니다.
He does not run away. He does not give up. He goes all the way.
도망치지 않으십니다. 포기하지 않으십니다. 끝까지 가십니다.
That cross was not for His sin, but for us. He carried what we should have carried.
그 십자가는 예수님의 죄 때문이 아니라 우리 때문입니다. 우리가 감당해야 할 것을 예수님이 대신 감당하신 것입니다.
When we look at all these scenes, we see what God’s love is. It is not just words, but love that comes to us, and carries our burdens. embraces us,
이 모든 장면을 보면 알 수 있습니다. 이것이 하나님의 사랑입니다. 말로만 하는 사랑이 아니라 우리에게 다가오고, 품고, 대신 짊어지는 사랑입니다.
So Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
그래서 예수님은 말씀하십니다. “나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았다.”
When we look at Jesus, we can clearly know what God is like.
예수님을 보면 하나님이 어떤 분인지 분명히 알 수 있습니다.
He does not give up on us, He comes to us, and He gives Himself for us.
우리를 포기하지 않으시는 분, 우리를 찾아오시는 분, 우리를 위해 자신을 내어주시는 분입니다.
This is also important for children. Love becomes clearer when someone does something for us, not just when we hear it.
아이에게도 이것은 중요합니다. 사랑은 누군가 나를 위해 해 준 일을 통해 말로만 들을 때보다 더 분명하게 느껴집니다.
So now we can say, “I am loved.” Not because we are good enough, but because Jesus walked that path for us.
그래서 우리는 이제 말할 수 있습니다. “나는 사랑받고 있다.” 그 이유는 내가 잘해서가 아니라 예수님이 나를 위해 그 길을 걸어가셨기 때문입니다.
3. Those who live in that love begin to become like Jesus and do His work (11–14)
그 사랑 안에 사는 자는 주님을 닮아 그 일을 하게 됩니다.
Jesus said, “Whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing.”
예수님은 “나를 믿는 자는 내가 하는 일을 그도 할 것이라.”고 말씀하셨습니다.
This does not mean we become great by our own power.
이 말씀은 우리가 우리 힘으로 위대한 사람이 된다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
It means that those who live in the love of Jesus begin to live with His heart.
예수님의 사랑 안에 사는 사람은 예수님의 마음으로 살아가기 시작한다는 뜻입니다.
A child who receives love learns how to love.
사랑을 받은 아이는 사랑하는 법을 배웁니다.
A child who is welcomed learns how to welcome others.
환영 받은 아이는 다른 사람을 맞아주는 법을 배웁니다.
A child who is forgiven learns how to forgive.
용서받은 아이는 용서하는 법을 배웁니다.
In the same way, those who live in Jesus’ love begin to resemble Him.
마찬가지로 예수님의 사랑 안에 사는 사람은 예수님을 닮아가기 시작합니다.
They begin to look at people with kindness.
사람들을 따뜻한 마음으로 바라보기 시작합니다.
They begin to help those who are weak.
약한 사람을 도우려 하기 시작합니다.
They begin to comfort those who are sad.
슬픈 사람을 위로하려 하기 시작합니다.
They begin to forgive instead of holding hatred.
미움을 붙잡기보다 용서하려 하기 시작합니다.
This is how the work of Jesus continues through us.
이렇게 예수님의 일이 우리를 통해 계속됩니다.
Jesus also said, “You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it.”
예수님은 또 “내 이름으로 무엇이든지 내게 구하면 내가 행하리라.”고 말씀하셨습니다.
This does not mean that we can ask for anything selfishly.
이 말씀은 우리가 욕심대로 아무것이나 구해도 된다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
To pray in Jesus’ name means to pray with the heart of Jesus.
예수님의 이름으로 기도한다는 것은 예수님의 마음으로 기도한다는 뜻입니다.
When we live close to Jesus, our prayers begin to change.
예수님 가까이 살면 우리의 기도가 달라지기 시작합니다.
We begin to pray, “Lord, help me love others.”
“주님, 제가 다른 사람을 사랑하게 해 주세요.”라고 기도하게 됩니다.
We begin to pray, “Lord, help me forgive.”
“주님, 제가 용서하게 해 주세요.”라고 기도하게 됩니다.
We begin to pray, “Lord, help me do what is good.”
“주님, 제가 선한 일을 하게 해 주세요.”라고 기도하게 됩니다.
These are prayers that please God.
이런 기도는 하나님이 기뻐하시는 기도입니다.
God works through people who pray with the heart of Jesus.
하나님은 예수님의 마음으로 기도하는 사람들을 통해 일하십니다.
So children do not need to be forced to become good. They first need to live in love.
그러므로 아이들을 억지로 착하게 만들려고만 해서는 안 됩니다. 먼저 사랑 안에 살게 해야 합니다.
When love fills their hearts, good things begin to come out of them.
사랑이 마음에 채워지면 좋은 것이 그 안에서 흘러나오기 시작합니다.
It is the same with us. When the love of Jesus fills our hearts, our lives begin to change.
우리도 마찬가지입니다. 예수님의 사랑이 우리 마음에 채워지면 우리의 삶이 달라지기 시작합니다.
We begin to do the work of Jesus in our homes, in the church, and in the world.
가정에서, 교회에서, 세상에서 예수님의 일을 하며 살아가기 시작합니다.
This is the life of a child who abides in love.
이것이 사랑 안에 거하는 자녀의 삶입니다.
Those who abide in love receive peace.
사랑 안에 거하는 사람은 평안을 누립니다.
Those who abide in love come to know the Father’s love through Jesus.
사랑 안에 거하는 사람은 예수님을 통해 아버지의 사랑을 알게 됩니다.
And those who abide in love begin to live like Jesus.
그리고 사랑 안에 거하는 사람은 예수님처럼 살아가기 시작합니다.
The Lord speaks to us today in this way.
주님은 오늘 우리에게 이렇게 말씀하십니다.
Do not be afraid, even if you have not lived this way until now.
지금까지 그렇게 살지 못했다고 두려워하지 말아라.
I know your weakness. Come to Me again. Stay in My love.
나는 너의 연약함을 안다. 다시 내게로 오너라. 내 사랑 안에 거하여라.
And look at the people of faith around you who are trying to become like Me.
그리고 네 주변에서 나를 닮으려고 애쓰는 믿음의 사람들을 보아라.
As you watch them and walk with them, you will slowly begin to resemble Me too.
그들을 보고 함께 걸어가다 보면 너도 조금씩 나를 닮아가게 될 것이다.
You do not change by your own strength.
너는 네 힘으로 변하는 것이 아니다.
I will give you My heart. I will help you love again. I will help you forgive again.
내가 너에게 내 마음을 주겠다. 내가 너로 다시 사랑하게 하겠다. 내가 너로 다시 용서하게 하겠다.
Walk with Me. You are still My beloved child.
나와 함께 걸어라. 너는 여전히 내가 사랑하는 자녀다.
Let me conclude the message.
말씀을 정리하겠습니다.
Children who abide in the Father’s love do not need to live in fear.
아버지의 사랑 안에 거하는 자녀는 두려움 속에 살지 않아도 됩니다.
We have a home to return to. We have Someone who receives them. And We have Jesus, who shows them the Father’s love.
우리에게는 돌아갈 집이 있습니다. 우리에게는 받아주시는 분이 계십니다. 그리고 우리에게는 아버지의 사랑을 보여주시는 예수님이 계십니다.
Children need many things as they grow.
아이들이 자라기 위해서는 많은 것이 필요합니다.
But what they need first is love that makes their hearts feel safe.
그러나 가장 먼저 필요한 것은 마음을 안심하게 하는 사랑입니다.
When this assurance fills the heart, children can grow in peace.
이 확신이 마음에 채워질 때 아이들은 평안 가운데 자랄 수 있습니다.
This is also true for us. When we abide in the love of God the Father, our troubled hearts find peace.
우리도 마찬가지입니다. 하나님 아버지의 사랑 안에 거할 때 우리의 근심하는 마음은 평안을 얻습니다.
When we look at Jesus, we see how deep that love is. And when that love fills us, we begin to live like Jesus.
예수님을 바라볼 때 우리는 그 사랑이 얼마나 깊은지 보게 됩니다. 그리고 그 사랑이 우리 안에 채워질 때 우리는 예수님처럼 살아가기 시작합니다.
May we all abide in this love and enjoy true peace in the Father’s house.
우리 모두가 이 사랑 안에 거하며 아버지의 집에서 참된 평안을 누리기를 바랍니다.

Loving and gracious Father, Thank You for loving us and calling us Your children.

Help us to remember what Jesus has done for us.

Fill our hearts with that love so that we may live like Jesus.
그 사랑으로 우리의 마음을 채우셔서 예수님을 닮아 살게 하옵소서.
Help us love others, forgive others, and care for those in need.
다른 사람을 사랑하고 용서하며 도움이 필요한 이들을 돌보게 하옵소서.
Bless our children. Let them grow with the assurance that they are loved.
우리의 자녀들을 축복하여 주옵소서. 그들이 사랑받고 있다는 확신 가운데 자라게 하옵소서.
Let them know they are never alone and always have a place to return to.
혼자가 아님을 알게 하시고 언제든지 돌아갈 집이 있음을 알게 하옵소서.
Make our homes and our church places of love and peace.
우리의 가정과 교회가 사랑과 평안의 자리가 되게 하옵소서.
