요한복음 3:1–17
오늘 본문은 하나님의 사랑이 우리 안에서 어떻게 역사하는지를 보여 줍니다.
Today’s passage shows how the love of God works within us.
그 사랑은 우리로 하여금 하나님의 나라를 보게 하시고, 그 나라 안으로 들어가게 하시며, 마침내 영생을 얻게 하시는 사랑입니다.
That love enables us to see the Kingdom of God, Brings us into that Kingdom, And finally grants us eternal life.
그렇다면 이 사랑은 우리 안에서 어떻게 시작되며, 어떻게 완성됩니까?
How then does this love begin in us, and how is it brought to completion?
1. 이 사랑은 거듭남을 통해 우리의 눈을 열어 하나님의 나라를 보게 하며 시작됩니다(1–8).
This love begins by opening our eyes through the new birth so that we may see the Kingdom of God).
니고데모가 밤에 예수님을 찾아온 것은 사람들의 시선을 피하고 조용히 예수님께 마음을 털어놓고 싶었기 때문입니다.
Nicodemus came to Jesus at night because he wanted to avoid people’s attention and quietly speak to Jesus from his heart.
겉으로는 존경받는 지도자였지만, 속으로는 풀리지 않는 질문과 두려움을 안고 있었습니다.
Though outwardly he was a respected leader, inwardly he carried unanswered questions and fear.
우리도 겉으로는 괜찮아 보이지만 속으로는 불안과 두려움, 실패감과 수치심을 안고 살아갑니다.
We too may appear fine outwardly, yet inwardly carry anxiety, fear, shame, and a sense of failure.
그런 니고데모에게 예수님은 정죄로 시작하지 않으시고 “사람이 거듭나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라를 볼 수 없느니라.”(요 3:3)라고 말씀하셨습니다.
Jesus did not begin by condemning Nicodemus, but said, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3).
여기서 “본다”는 것은 하늘의 광경을 보거나 입신하는 체험 같은 신비한 환상을 본다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
Here, “to see” does not mean witnessing a mystical vision, such as entering a trance or seeing heavenly scenes.
‘본다’는 것은 깨닫는다는 뜻이며 믿음의 눈으로 인식한다는 뜻입니다.
“To see” means to perceive and to recognize with the eyes of faith.
우리가 상처 때문에 세상을 왜곡하여 보고 있다면 거듭남은 그 왜곡된 렌즈를 바꾸어 주는 하나님의 은혜입니다.
If we have been seeing the world through the distortion of our wounds, new birth is God’s grace that replaces that distorted lens.
이 세상은 하나님께서 창조하셨고 하나님은 세상을 방관하지 않으시며 지금도 섭리로 다스리고 계십니다.
This world was created by God, and He does not abandon it, but continues to rule it by His providence.
그러나 하나님은 보이지 않으시기에 사람들은 눈에 보이는 것만을 현실이라고 생각합니다.
Because God is invisible, people assume that only what is visible is real.
그래서 형편이 어려우면 실패라고 말하고 병이 오면 끝이라고 말하고 손해를 보면 망했다고 단정합니다.
So if circumstances are hard, they call it failure, if sickness comes, they say it is the end, and if they suffer loss, they conclude they are ruined.
왜냐하면 눈에 보이는 대로만 판단하기 때문입니다.
Because they judge only by what they see.
니고데모도 예수님을 하나님께로부터 오신 선생으로는 보았지만 하나님의 나라를 가져오신 분으로는 보지 못했습니다.
Nicodemus saw Jesus as a teacher sent from God, but he did not see Him as the One who brought the Kingdom of God.
예수님은 하나님이시요 하나님의 아들이십니다.
Jesus is God and the Son of God.
그러므로 예수님이 오셨다는 것은 하나님의 나라, 곧 하나님의 다스림이 시작되었다는 뜻입니다.
Therefore, the coming of Jesus means that the Kingdom of God, the reign of God, has begun.
그러나 거듭나지 않으면 그 다스림이 시작되었다는 사실을 보지 못합니다.
But unless one is born again, one cannot see that His reign has begun.
“바람이 임의로 불매 네가 그 소리를 들어도 어디서 와서 어디로 가는지 알지 못하나니.” (요 3:8)
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.” (John 3:8)
바람을 붙잡을 수는 없지만 분명히 존재하듯이 성령의 역사도 그러합니다.
Just as the wind cannot be grasped yet surely exists, so it is with the work of the Spirit.
우리가 느끼지 못해도 하나님은 이미 우리 안에서 일하고 계십니다.
Even when we do not feel it, God is already at work within us.
혹시 “나는 이미 망가졌다”라고 생각하더라도 주님은 우리에게 거듭날 수 있다고 말씀하십니다.
Even if you think, “I am already ruined,” the Lord tells us that we can be born again.
거듭난 사람은 현실이 사라졌기 때문에 담대해지는 것이 아니라 하나님이 여전히 다스리고 계심을 보기 때문에 담대해집니다.
The born-again person is not courageous because reality disappeared, but because he sees that God is still reigning.
이 믿음의 눈이 열릴 때 과거의 실패는 정죄가 아니라 배움이 되고 현재의 고난은 버림받음이 아니라 연단이 됩니다.
When these eyes of faith are opened, past failures become lessons rather than condemnation, and present suffering becomes refinement rather than abandonment.
그래서 환경이 흔들리고 건강이 약해지고 관계가 어려워질 때에도 쉽게 “이제 끝이다”라고 말하지 않습니다.
So when circumstances shake, when health weakens, and when relationships become strained, he does not easily say, “It is over.”
왜냐하면 하나님께서 모든 것을 합력하여 선을 이루실 것을 믿기 때문입니다.
Because he believes that God works all things together for good.
하나님은 선하신 분이시며 우리의 삶을 선하게 인도하시는 분이십니다.
God is good, and He leads our lives toward goodness.
독생자를 주신 하나님의 사랑은 우리의 불안한 현실 속에서 하나님이 여전히 다스리고 계심을 보게 하시려 오신 사랑입니다.
The love of God who gave His only Son came to help us see that God is still reigning even in our anxious reality.
그러므로 우리는 어둠 속에 머물러 있을 필요가 없습니다.
Therefore, we do not need to remain in the night.
밤에 찾아왔던 니고데모처럼 우리도 주님 앞으로 나오면 됩니다.
Like Nicodemus who came at night, we simply come before the Lord.
그리고 믿음의 눈을 열어 달라고 구하면 됩니다.
And we ask Him to open the eyes of faith.
그러면 주님께서 우리의 시선을 들어 올려, 하나님의 다스림을 보게 하십니다.
Then the Lord lifts our gaze and enables us to see His sovereign reign.
“너는 내 다스림 아래 안전하다, 그러니 다시 일어나 걸어라.”
“You are safe under My reign; now rise and walk again.”
2. 이 사랑은 믿음으로 하나님과의 관계를 회복시켜 하나님의 나라에 들어가게 합니다 (9–15).
This love brings us into the Kingdom of God by restoring our relationship with Him through faith
예수님은 니고데모에게 거듭남을 말씀하시며 단순한 지식의 변화가 아니라 존재의 변화를 말씀하셨습니다.
As Jesus spoke of new birth to Nicodemus, He described not a change of information, but a transformation of being.
“물과 성령으로 나지 아니하면 하나님 나라에 들어갈 수 없느니라.” (요 3:5)
“Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)
여기서 ‘들어간다’는 말은 죽어서 좋은 곳에 간다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
Here, “to enter” does not mean going to a better place after death.
구원을 단지 사후의 보상으로 이해하면, 모든 종교가 각자의 방식으로 구원에 이른다고 말하기 쉬워집니다.
If salvation is reduced to a reward after death, it becomes easy to claim that all religions offer their own path to salvation.
그러나 성경이 말하는 구원의 중심은 관계입니다.
But the center of salvation in Scripture is relationship.
우리는 하나님과 원수로 살던 자였습니다.
We once lived as enemies of God.
하나님을 떠나, 하나님과의 관계가 끊어진 채로 살아가던 자들이었습니다.
We lived separated from Him, disconnected from relationship with Him.
그런 우리가 구원받았다는 것은 무엇입니까?
What then does it mean that we are saved?
하나님과의 관계가 회복되었다는 뜻입니다.
It means our relationship with God has been restored.
우리가 하나님의 자녀가 되었고, 하나님의 백성이 되었다는 뜻입니다.
It means we have become God’s children and His people.
관계는 자동으로 좋아지지 않습니다.
Relationships do not improve automatically.
내가 옆집 아저씨와 친해진다고 해서 우리 아버지와의 관계가 좋아졌다고 말할 수는 없습니다.
Becoming close to a neighbor does not mean my relationship with my father has improved.
살아 있는 동안 하나님과 한 번도 대화하지 않고, 하나님께 관심도 없다가 죽을 때 갑자기 관계가 회복된다고 말한다면 모순입니다.
If someone never speaks to God or shows interest in Him throughout life, it would be contradictory to claim that the relationship is suddenly restored at death.
좋은 관계는 시간을 함께 보내며 자랍니다.
Healthy relationships grow through shared time.
함께 이야기하고, 함께 기뻐하고, 함께 어려움을 겪으면서 깊어집니다.
They deepen through conversation, joy, and shared struggles.
하나님과의 관계도 마찬가지입니다.
So it is with our relationship with God.
“믿음은 들음에서 나며 들음은 그리스도의 말씀으로 말미암았느니라.” (롬 10:17)
“Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)
말씀을 들으며 우리는 하나님을 알게 되고, 신뢰하게 됩니다.
As we hear the Word, we come to know God and to trust Him.
구원을 관계의 회복으로 이해하면, “믿음으로 구원받는다”는 말은 매우 자연스럽습니다.
When salvation is understood as restored relationship, “justified by faith” becomes entirely natural.
신뢰하지 않는 상대와 친밀한 관계를 가질 수는 없습니다.
One cannot have intimacy without trust.
관계 회복의 출발점은 신뢰입니다.
Trust is the starting point of restored relationship.
우리가 신뢰하고 사랑하는 사람을 위해 기꺼이 희생하듯이, 하나님을 신뢰하는 사람은 하나님의 뜻을 기쁘게 따르려 합니다.
Just as we gladly sacrifice for someone we trust and love, The one who trusts God desires to follow His will joyfully.
거듭난 사람이 하나님의 나라에 들어간다는 것은 하나님의 다스림에 순응한다는 뜻입니다.
For the one who is born again to enter the Kingdom Means to yield to God’s reign.
좋으신 하나님을 믿지 않는다면, 그분의 다스림에 기쁨으로 참여할 수 있겠습니까?
If we do not trust that God is good, How could we joyfully participate in His rule?
권세가 두려워 억지로 복종할 수는 있어도, 아버지를 기쁘시게 하려는 자녀의 마음으로 순종할 수는 없습니다.
We may submit out of fear of power, But we cannot obey with the heart of a child seeking to please a Father.
참 하나님과 그가 보내신 자 예수 그리스도를 앎으로 거듭난 사람은 기쁜 마음으로 하나님의 뜻에 순종합니다.
The one who knows the true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent Obeys God’s will with joy.
오른뺨을 때리면 왼뺨도 돌려대고, 수치를 당해도 복음의 유익을 생각합니다.
He can turn the other cheek, And endure shame for the sake of the gospel.
내가 낮아짐으로 누군가 하나님의 자녀가 될 수 있다면, 그 일도 기꺼이 감당합니다.
If by my humiliation someone may become a child of God, He willingly endures it.
이것이 하나님의 나라에 들어간 삶입니다.
This is life within the Kingdom of God.
그러므로 독생자를 주신 하나님의 사랑은, 우리로 하여금 하나님을 신뢰하고 사랑하게 하여 기꺼이 하나님의 다스림 안으로 들어가게 하시는 사랑입니다.
Therefore, the love of God who gave His only Son is the love that causes us to trust and love God, and to willingly enter under His sovereign reign.
오늘도 우리는 그 신뢰로 하나님의 뜻에 순종할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
Today, we hope that we may obey God’s will through that trust.
3. 이 사랑은 정죄가 아니라 생명을 주어 우리를 영생으로 살게 하십니다 (16–17).
This love does not condemn but gives life, so that we may live with eternal life).
“하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니…” (요 3:16)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (John 3:16)
여기서 ‘세상’은 교회만이 아니라, 하나님을 떠난 세상 전체를 의미합니다.
Here, “the world” refers not only to the church, but to the entire fallen world estranged from God.
하나님은 세상을 심판하려고 아들을 보내신 것이 아닙니다.
God did not send His Son to condemn the world.
“하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하려 하심이 아니요…” (요 3:17)
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world…” (John 3:17)
이 말씀은 매우 분명합니다.
This statement is very clear.
모든 사람이 죄를 범하였다는 것은 하나님이 분노하여 벌을 내리신다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
That all have sinned does not mean God is angrily imposing punishment.
하나님은 우리의 행복과 생명을 위해 말씀을 주셨습니다.
God gave His Word for our life and well-being.
내가 오늘 하늘과 땅을 불러 너희에게 증거를 삼노라 내가 생명과 사망과 복과 저주를 네 앞에 두었은즉 너와 네 자손이 살기 위하여 생명을 택하고(신명기 30:19)
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. (Deuteronomy 30:19)
우리가 생명의 길을 선택하지 않았기에 죽음에 이른 것입니다.
We reached death because we did not choose the way of life.
차선이 분명히 그어져 있는데 내가 중앙선을 넘어 사고가 난다면, 그것은 하나님이 벌을 내리신 것이 아니라 내가 안전한 길을 떠났기 때문입니다.
If a lane is clearly marked and I cross the center line and crash, it is not God punishing me but the result of leaving the safe path.
하나님의 명령은 우리를 살게 하려는 길이었지만 우리는 그 길을 벗어났습니다.
God’s commands were a way meant to keep us alive, yet we stepped off that way.
그러므로 고난을 곧바로 하나님의 벌로 단정할 수는 없습니다.
Therefore, we cannot automatically label suffering as God’s punishment.
우리가 차선을 잘 지켜도 반대편에서 오는 차로 인해 사고가 날 수 있듯이, 타락한 세상에서는 원치 않는 고통과 질병이 있습니다.
Just as we may drive correctly yet suffer an accident caused by another driver, In a fallen world there are undesired sufferings and sickness.
주님이 다시 오시기 전까지는 눈물과 고통이 있습니다.
Until the Lord returns, there are tears and pain.
그러나 주님이 다시 오실 때에는 “모든 눈물을 그 눈에서 닦아 주시니”(계 21:4) 눈물도 고통도 사망도 없게 됩니다.
But when He comes again, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 21:4), and there will be no more tears, pain, or death.
사단은 가시와 엉겅퀴가 난 세상의 불행을 이용하여 하나님이 우리를 사랑하지 않는 것처럼 속입니다.
Satan uses the thorns and sorrows of this world To deceive us into thinking God does not love us.
그러나 십자가에서 주님은 이미 우리의 죄와 연약함이 받아야 할 심판을 담당하셨습니다.
But at the cross, Christ bore the judgment our sin and weakness deserved.
그리스도께서 이미 승리하셨기에 전쟁은 끝났습니다.
Because Christ has already triumphed, the war has ended.
어떤 일본 병사가 전쟁이 끝난 줄 모르고 동굴에 숨어 살았던 것처럼, 예수님을 믿지 않는 사람은 이미 끝난 전쟁 속에서 여전히 두려움 가운데 삽니다.
Like a soldier hiding in a cave unaware that the war was over, Those who do not believe in Christ still live in fear in a war already won.
“믿지 아니하는 자는 벌써 심판을 받은 것이니…” (요 3:18)
“Whoever does not believe is condemned already…” (John 3:18)
이 말씀은 예수님이 오셔서 갑자기 심판을 만들어 내셨다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
This does not mean Jesus created condemnation.
이미 죄로 죽어가던 상태를 그대로 두는 것이 심판이라는 뜻입니다.
It means remaining in the already existing state of death in sin is condemnation.
우리는 이미 죽을 자들이었으나 독생자를 믿음으로 살게 되었습니다.
We were already dying people, but by believing in the only Son, we have been given life.
“영생은 곧 유일하신 참 하나님과 그가 보내신 자 예수 그리스도를 아는 것이니이다.” (요 17:3)
“And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)
영생은 사후의 시간 개념이 아니라, 하나님을 아는 관계의 생명입니다.
Eternal life is not merely about duration after death, But the life of knowing God in relationship.
갈라디아서 2장 20절은 이를 잘 설명합니다.
Galatians 2:20 explains this clearly.
“이제는 내가 사는 것이 아니요 오직 내 안에 그리스도께서 사시는 것이라.”
“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”
영생은 그리스도께서 우리 안에 사시는 생명입니다.
Eternal life is Christ living within us.
마치 하나님이 흙으로 지은 사람의 코에 생기를 불어넣으셨을 때 생령이 되었듯이, 성령께서 우리 안에 영생의 생기를 불어넣으십니다.
Just as God breathed into the man formed from dust and he became a living being, The Spirit breathes eternal life into us.
그래서 영생은 하나님의 자녀답게 살게 하는 능력입니다.
Thus eternal life is the power to live as children of God.
그러므로 독생자를 주신 하나님의 사랑은 우리를 정죄하려는 사랑이 아니라, 이미 죽어가던 우리에게 생명을 주시고 하나님의 자녀로 살게 하시는 사랑입니다.
Therefore, the love of God who gave His only Son is not to condemn us, but to give life to those who were dying and enable us to live as His children.
이 생명을 믿음으로 붙들 때 우리는 다시 정죄에 빠지지 않습니다.
When we hold onto this life by faith, we are no longer under condemnation.
오늘도 그 영생의 능력으로 살아갈 수 있기를 바랍니다.
We hope that we may live today by the power of that eternal life.

독생자를 주신 하나님의 사랑은 우리 인생의 방향을 바꾸는 사랑입니다.
The love of God who gave His only Son is the love that changes the direction of our lives.
그 사랑은 우리의 눈을 열어 하나님의 다스림을 보게 하시고, 관계를 회복시켜 그 나라 안으로 들어가게 하시며, 죄와 사망 가운데 있던 우리에게 영생을 주십니다.
That love opens our eyes to see God’s reign, restores our relationship with Him to bring us into His Kingdom, and gives eternal life to us who were in sin and death.
영생은 먼 훗날의 보상이 아니라, 오늘 하나님을 알고 그리스도 안에서 살아가게 하는 생명의 능력입니다.
Eternal life is not a distant reward, but the power of life that enables us to know God today and live in Christ.
그러므로 오늘도 우리는 그 사랑 안에서 하나님의 나라를 바라보며, 기쁨으로 그 다스림에 참여할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
Therefore, today as well, we hope that in His love we may behold His Kingdom and joyfully live under His reign.

Loving Father, we thank You for calling us and speaking to us today through the love by which You gave Your only Son.
우리의 눈을 열어 주셔서 보이지 않는 하나님의 다스림을 믿음으로 보게 하시고, 불안한 현실 속에서도 주님의 주권을 신뢰하게 하옵소서.
Open our eyes to see Your unseen reign by faith, and help us trust Your sovereignty even in our anxious reality.
거듭남의 은혜로 왜곡된 시선을 고쳐 주시고, 상처와 두려움 속에서도 다시 시작할 용기를 주옵소서.

Help us hold fast to the grace that gives life, not condemnation, and live by the power of eternal life in Christ.
