The God Who Has Brought Us This Far
이사야(Isaiah) 63:7–19
우리는 지금 한 해의 끝에 서 있습니다.
We are standing at the end of a year.
돌아보면 많은 날이 있었습니다.
When we look back, there were many days.
기쁜 날도 있었고, 힘든 날도 있었습니다.
There were joyful days, and there were painful days.
어느 날은 잘 걸어온 것 같았고, 어느 날은 겨우 버틴 것 같았습니다.
Some days we felt we were walking well, and some days we felt we were only surviving.
그런데 우리는 지금 여기 있습니다.
And yet, here we are.
이 자리에까지 왔습니다.
We have come to this place.
질문은 이것입니다.
This is the question.
우리가 여기까지 온 것일까요.
Did we come this far by ourselves?
아니면 누군가 우리를 여기까지 데려오신 것일까요.
Or has Someone brought us this far?
이사야는 말합니다.
Isaiah says,
이 길은 우리가 만든 길이 아니라고.
This is not a road we made.
하나님이 데려오신 길이라고.
It is a road God has led us on.
오늘 본문은 그 하나님이 어떤 분이신지를 보여 줍니다.
Today’s passage shows us who that God is.
우리를 안고 오신 하나님.
The God who carried us.
우리를 다시 이끄신 성령.
The Spirit who led us again.
우리가 돌아오기를 기다리신 아버지.
The Father who waited for us to return.
그 하나님을 오늘 말씀 속에서 다시 만나 보겠습니다.
Let us meet that God again in today’s Word.
1.예수님은 우리의 고난 속으로 들어오신 하나님이십니다 (7–9)
Jesus is the God who entered into our suffering
이사야는 이렇게 시작합니다.
Isaiah begins like this.
“내가 여호와의 인자하심을 말하며, 그가 이스라엘 집에 베푸신 큰 은총을 말하리라.”
“I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us.”
그는 지금의 현실을 먼저 말하지 않습니다.
He does not speak first about the present reality.
하나님이 어떤 분이셨는지를 먼저 말합니다.
He first speaks about who God has been.
지금을 이해하려면 하나님을 먼저 보아야 하기 때문입니다.
Because to understand the present, we must first look at God.
그는 이어서 말합니다.
He continues.
“이는 그의 긍휼과 많은 인자하심을 따라 행하셨음이라.”
“According to his compassion and many kindnesses.”
하나님의 은혜는 순간의 감정이 아니라,
God’s grace is not a momentary feeling,
반복되는 성품입니다.
it is a consistent character.
그리고 하나님은 백성을 이렇게 부르셨다고 합니다.
And God called his people like this.
“진실로 그들은 나의 백성이요, 거짓을 행하지 아니하는 자녀라.”
“Surely they are my people, children who will be true to me.”
하나님은 멀리서 관리하지 않으셨습니다.
God did not manage them from a distance.
관계를 맺으셨습니다.
He entered into relationship with them.
자기 백성이라고 불러 주셨습니다.
He called them his own people.
그래서 이렇게 말합니다.
So Isaiah says,
“그들의 구원이 되셨도다.”
“So he became their Savior.”
도움을 주신 분이 아니라,
Not just someone who helped them,
구원이 되어 주신 분으로 소개합니다.
but someone who became their salvation.
그리고 이 고백이 이어집니다.
And this confession continues.
“그들의 모든 환난에 동참하사.”
“In all their distress he too was distressed.”
하나님은 고난을 멀리서 보신 분이 아니라,
God did not watch suffering from afar,
그 안으로 들어오신 분입니다.
he entered into it.
곁에 서 계신 분이 아니라,
He did not merely stand beside us,
그 자리에 함께 계신 분입니다.
he was present in it with us.
우리의 아픔을 관찰하신 분이 아니라,
He did not merely observe our pain,
우리의 아픔을 몸으로 겪으신 분입니다.
he bore it himself.
그래서 히브리서는 말합니다.
That is why Hebrews says,
우리에게는 연약함을 동정하지 못하실 이가 아니라,
We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses,
모든 일에 우리와 똑같이 시험을 받으신 대제사장이 계시다고.
but one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are.
우리의 아픔을 모르는 분이 아니라,
He is not someone who does not know our pain,
겪어 보셨기 때문에 더 잘 아시는 분이라고.
he knows it because he has experienced it.
그래서 더 잘 도우실 수 있는 분이라고 말합니다.
And therefore he is able to help us.
그리고 이렇게 말합니다.
And Isaiah continues,
“자기 앞의 사자가 그들을 구원하셨고.”
“The angel of his presence saved them.”
하나님은 대리인을 보내신 것이 아닙니다.
God did not send a mere representative.
자기 자신을 보내셨습니다.
He sent himself.
그분이 우리 주님 예수 그리스도이십니다.
That one is our Lord Jesus Christ.
그래서 구원은 이렇게 설명됩니다.
So salvation is described like this.
“그의 사랑과 그의 자비로 그들을 구속하시고.”
“In his love and mercy he redeemed them.”
능력보다 먼저 사랑이 있습니다.
Before power, there is love.
권능보다 먼저 자비가 있습니다.
Before might, there is mercy.
그리고 마지막으로 이렇게 말합니다.
And finally Isaiah says,
“옛적 모든 날에 그들을 드시며 안으셨도다.”
“He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.”
하나님은 한 순간만 안으신 분이 아닙니다.
God did not carry them for just a moment.
모든 날에 안으신 분입니다.
He carried them every day.
여정 전체를 품으신 분입니다.
He carried their whole journey.
이 말씀이 오늘 우리에게 이렇게 다가옵니다.
This Word comes to us today like this.
우리에게도 환난의 날들이 있었습니다.
We too have had days of distress.
말하지 못한 슬픔이 있었고,
There were sorrows we could not speak of,
견뎌야 했던 시간이 있었고,
times we simply had to endure,
하나님이 멀게 느껴졌던 날도 있었습니다.
and days when God felt far away.
그런데 본문은 말합니다.
But the passage says,
그 모든 날에 하나님은 함께 계셨다고.
that in all those days, God was with us.
그 모든 날에 우리를 안고 계셨다고.
that in all those days, he carried us.
우리보다 먼저 아파하셨다고.
that he suffered before we did.
우리보다 먼저 짐을 지셨다고.
that he bore the burden before we did.
그래서 우리는 버려지지 않았습니다.
So we were not abandoned.
외면당하지 않았습니다.
We were not ignored.
혼자가 아니었습니다.
We were not alone.
그래서 오늘 우리는 이렇게 말할 수 있습니다.
So today we can say,
“주님, 주님이 여기 계셨습니다.”
“Lord, you were here.”
“주님, 주님이 여기까지 우리를 안고 오셨습니다.”
“Lord, you carried us this far.”
그리고 그것이면 충분합니다.
And that is enough.
2.성령님은 우리가 다시 부르고 다시 의지하게 되는 하나님이십니다 (10–14)
The Holy Spirit is the God whom we call upon again and learn to depend on again
이사야는 은혜의 고백 다음에 백성의 실패를 숨기지 않습니다.
After the confession of grace, Isaiah does not hide the people’s failure.
“그들이 반역하여 그의 성령을 근심하게 하였으므로 그가 돌이켜 그들의 대적이 되사 친히 그들을 치셨더니.”
“Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them.”
반역이 있었고,
There was rebellion,
성령을 근심하게 하는 일이 있었고,
there was grieving of the Holy Spirit,
그 결과 하나님의 치심을 경험했다고 말합니다.
and as a result they experienced God’s discipline.
이것이 그들이 서 있는 자리입니다.
This is the place where they stand.
무너진 자리입니다.
It is a broken place.
말이 막히는 자리입니다.
It is a place where words fail.
그 자리에서 이사야는 이렇게 말합니다.
From that place, Isaiah says this.
“그 때에 백성이 옛날을 기억하여 말하되.”
“Then his people recalled the days of old.”
절망의 끝에서 기억이 시작됩니다.
At the end of despair, remembering begins.
기억은 도망이 아닙니다.
Remembering is not escape.
하나님께 다시 향하는 첫 걸음입니다.
It is the first step back toward God.
그들은 묻습니다.
They ask,
“백성을 바다에서 인도하여 내시던 이는 이제 어디 계시냐.”
“Where is he who brought them through the sea?”
“그들 가운데 성령을 두시던 이는 이제 어디 계시냐.”
“Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them?”
그들은 하나님을 부르되,
They call upon God,
출애굽의 하나님을 부릅니다.
the God of the Exodus.
성령을 주셨던 하나님을 부릅니다.
the God who gave his Spirit.
그리고 기억은 더 깊어집니다.
And the remembering goes deeper.
“그의 영광의 팔로 모세의 오른손을 잡고 물을 갈라 인도하신 이는 어디 계시냐.”
“Who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses’ right hand, who divided the waters before them?”
“그들을 깊은 곳을 통과하게 하신 이는 어디 계시냐.”
“Who led them through the depths?”
그 깊은 곳은 원래 사람이 갈 수 없는 자리였습니다.
The depths were a place people could not normally go.
그러나 하나님이 길을 만드셨습니다.
But God made a way.
그리고 본문은 말합니다.
And the text says,
“사막을 지나가는 말이 넘어지지 않음 같이.”
“Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble.”
넘어지지 않게 하셨다는 말입니다.
It means they did not fall.
빠지지 않게 하셨다는 말입니다.
It means they were not swallowed up.
그리고 마침내 이렇게 말합니다.
And finally it says,
“짐승이 골짜기로 내려감 같이 여호와의 영이 그들을 편히 쉬게 하셨도다.”
“Like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the Lord.”
광야와 바다의 길이 끝나고,
The road through wilderness and sea ended,
쉼의 자리로 인도하셨다는 말입니다.
and they were led into a place of rest.
그 일을 여호와의 영이 하셨다고 말합니다.
It says the Spirit of the Lord did this.
그래서 이사야는 이렇게 정리합니다.
So Isaiah concludes,
“이와 같이 주께서 주의 백성을 인도하사 주의 이름을 영화롭게 하셨나이다.”
“This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name.”
이것이 본문이 말하는 성령의 사역입니다.
This is what the passage says about the work of the Spirit.
구원하셨고,
He saved them,
인도하셨고,
he guided them,
넘어지지 않게 하셨고,
he kept them from stumbling,
마침내 쉬게 하셨습니다.
and finally he gave them rest.
그런데 그 성령을 근심하게 했습니다.
But they grieved that Spirit.
그래서 치심을 경험했습니다.
So they experienced discipline.
그래서 이제야 다시 부르게 되었습니다.
So now they call on him again.
그리고 이 말씀이 오늘 우리에게 이렇게 이어집니다.
And this Word continues to us today like this.
우리도 성령을 근심하게 할 때가 있습니다.
We also sometimes grieve the Spirit.
익숙함 속에서,
In our familiarity,
바쁨 속에서,
in our busyness,
내가 안다고 생각하면서.
in thinking that we already know.
그리고 우리는 길을 잃습니다.
And we lose our way.
쉼을 잃습니다.
We lose our rest.
기쁨을 잃습니다.
We lose our joy.
그러나 은혜는 여기에 있습니다.
But here is grace.
우리는 다시 부를 수 있습니다.
We can call again.
다시 기억할 수 있습니다.
We can remember again.
다시 의지할 수 있습니다.
We can depend again.
그래서 오늘 이 말씀은 우리를 정죄하지 않습니다.
So today this Word does not condemn us.
우리를 초대합니다.
It invites us.
다시 성령을 환영하라고.
To welcome the Spirit again.
다시 성령의 인도를 구하라고.
To seek the Spirit’s leading again.
다시 성령과 함께 걷자고.
To walk with the Spirit again.
그리고 성경은 말합니다.
And Scripture says,
성령을 따라 행하는 사람에게는 생명이 있다고.
That those who live according to the Spirit have life.
육신을 따라 사는 것이 아니라,
Not living according to the flesh,
성령을 따라 사는 것이 생명이라고.
but living according to the Spirit is life.
그리고 그 생명은 단순히 오래 사는 것이 아닙니다.
And that life is not merely long life.
영생은 하나님과, 그가 보내신 예수 그리스도를 아는 것이라고 말씀합니다.
Eternal life is knowing God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent.
그러므로 성령을 따라 산다는 것은,
So to live by the Spirit means
하나님을 더 깊이 알아 가는 삶입니다.
to know God more deeply,
예수 그리스도를 더 닮아 가는 삶입니다.
to become more like Jesus Christ,
그분과 더 가까이 사는 삶입니다.
to live closer to him.
그래서 바울은 이렇게 고백합니다.
So Paul confesses,
“이제는 내가 사는 것이 아니라,
“I no longer live,
내 안에 그리스도께서 사시는 것이라.”
but Christ lives in me.”
성령을 따라 산다는 것은,
To live by the Spirit means
내가 중심이 되는 삶에서 내려오는 것입니다.
stepping down from being the center of our lives,
그리고 우리를 위해 자기 몸을 버리신 그리스도께서
and allowing Christ, who gave himself for us,
우리 안에서 사시도록 자리를 내어 드리는 것입니다.
to live within us.
이것이 성령을 의지하는 삶의 열매입니다.
This is the fruit of depending on the Spirit.
이것이 영생의 삶입니다.
This is the life that is eternal.
3.하나님 아버지는 우리가 돌아오기를 기다리시는 하나님이십니다 (15–19)
God the Father is the One who waits for us to return
이사야는 이제 이야기를 멈추고 기도를 시작합니다.
Isaiah now stops explaining and begins to pray.
설명이 부르짖음이 됩니다.
Explanation becomes a cry.
그는 말합니다.
He says,
“하늘에서 굽어 살피시며 주의 거룩하고 영화로운 처소에서 보옵소서.”
“Look down from heaven and see, from your lofty throne, holy and glorious.”
이 말은 하나님이 안 계시다는 말이 아닙니다.
This does not mean God is absent.
너무 멀게 느껴진다는 고백입니다.
It is a confession that God feels far away.
그래서 그는 묻습니다.
So he asks,
“주의 열성과 주의 능하신 행사가 어디 있나이까.”
“Where are your zeal and your might?”
“주의 긍휼과 자비가 내게 그쳤나이다.”
“Your tenderness and compassion are withheld from us.”
원망이 아니라 갈망입니다.
This is not accusation but longing.
다시 보고 싶다는 기도입니다.
It is a prayer to see God again.
그리고 그는 다시 고백합니다.
Then he confesses again,
“주는 우리의 아버지시라.”
“You, Lord, are our Father.”
아브라함이 우리를 모른다 해도,
Though Abraham does not know us,
이스라엘이 우리를 알지 못한다 해도,
and Israel does not acknowledge us,
하나님은 우리를 아신다고 말합니다.
God knows us.
그래서 그는 이렇게 묻습니다.
So he asks,
“어찌하여 우리로 주의 길에서 떠나게 하시며 우리의 마음을 완고하게 하사 주를 경외하지 않게 하시나이까.”
“Why, Lord, do you make us wander from your ways and harden our hearts so we do not revere you?”
이 질문은 하나님을 탓하는 말이 아닙니다.
This is not blaming God.
왜 이렇게 되었는지 알고 싶다는 말입니다.
It is a desire to understand why this has happened.
이 자리에서 벗어나고 싶다는 기도입니다.
It is a prayer to be freed from this state.
그래서 그는 간구합니다.
So he pleads,
“주의 종들, 주의 기업인 지파들을 위하여 돌아오시옵소서.”
“Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes that are your inheritance.”
그리고 그는 현실을 숨기지 않습니다.
And he does not hide the reality,
“주의 거룩한 백성이 겨우 잠깐 주의 성소를 소유하였사오나, 우리의 대적이 주의 성소를 유린하였나이다.”
“For a little while your people possessed your holy place, but now our enemies have trampled down your sanctuary.”
아픔은 실제입니다.
The pain is real.
무너짐은 현실입니다.
The ruin is real.
그래서 그는 마지막으로 이렇게 말합니다.
So he finally says,
“우리는 오래전부터 주의 다스림을 받지 못하였으며 주의 이름으로 일컬음을 받지 못하였나이다.”
“We have long been like those you do not rule, like those not called by your name.”
이 말은 절망이 아닙니다.
This is not despair.
다시 다스려 달라는 말입니다.
It is a request to be ruled again.
다시 불러 달라는 기도입니다.
It is a prayer to be called again.
이 말씀이 오늘 우리에게 이렇게 이어집니다.
This Word comes to us today like this.
우리는 자주 멀어집니다.
We often drift away.
자주 굳어집니다.
We often become hardened.
자주 돌아서고 싶어합니다.
We often want to turn away.
그러나 하나님은 떠나지 않으십니다.
But God does not leave.
문 앞에 서 계십니다.
He stands at the door.
돌아오기를 기다리십니다.
He waits for us to return.
예수님은 그 기다림을 이야기로 보여 주셨습니다.
Jesus showed us that waiting in a story.
아들이 먼 나라로 떠났습니다.
A son went to a distant country.
아버지의 재산을 들고, 아버지를 떠났습니다.
He took his father’s wealth and left his father.
모든 것을 잃고, 더 이상 내려갈 곳이 없을 때,
When he lost everything and had nowhere lower to go,
그는 생각합니다. “아버지께로 돌아가자.”
he thought, “I will go back to my father.”
그는 걸어옵니다.
He walks back.
고개를 들 수 없습니다.
He cannot lift his head.
아들이라고 부를 자격도 없다고 생각합니다.
He does not think he deserves to be called a son.
그런데 성경은 말합니다.
But Scripture says,
“아직도 거리가 먼데, 아버지가 그를 보고 달려갔다.”
“While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and ran to him.”
아들이 집에 오기 전에,
Before the son reached the house,
아버지는 이미 문 앞에 서 있었습니다.
the father was already at the door.
아버지는 기다리고 있었습니다.
The father had been waiting.
아들은 준비한 말을 다 하지도 못했습니다.
The son could not even finish his prepared speech.
아버지는 먼저 안았습니다.
The father embraced him first.
먼저 입을 맞추었습니다.
He kissed him first.
먼저 잔치를 베풀었습니다.
He celebrated first.
그것이 아버지의 마음입니다.
That is the father’s heart.
이사야가 부른 바로 그 아버지입니다.
That is the Father Isaiah was calling upon.
강요하지 않으십니다.
He does not force us.
억지로 바꾸지 않으십니다.
He does not coerce us.
그러나 포기하지도 않으십니다.
But he does not give up.
그래서 오늘도 길은 열려 있습니다.
So today the way is still open.
오늘도 부르심은 살아 있습니다.
Today the call is still alive.
그러니 우리는 돌아갈 수 있습니다.
So we can return.
지금이라도 돌아갈 수 있습니다.
Even now, we can return.
그리고 돌아오는 사람을
And the one who returns,
하나님은 반기십니다.
God welcomes.
아버지처럼 안으십니다.
He embraces like a Father.
결론
Conclusion
우리는 오늘 하나님을 다시 보았습니다.
Today we have seen God again.
고난 속으로 들어오신 예수님을 보았습니다.
We saw Jesus who entered into our suffering.
우리를 다시 살리시는 성령을 보았습니다.
We saw the Holy Spirit who gives us life again.
우리가 돌아오기를 기다리신 아버지를 보았습니다.
We saw the Father who waited for us to return.
그래서 우리는 알게 되었습니다.
So we have come to know this.
우리가 여기까지 온 것이 아니라,
That it is not we who came this far,
하나님이 우리를 여기까지 데려오셨다는 것을.
but God who has brought us this far.
그래서 우리는 이 한 해를 감사로 놓습니다.
So we lay down this year with thanksgiving.
그리고 새해를 두려움이 아니라 신뢰로 맞습니다.
And we meet the new year not with fear, but with trust.
우리는 혼자가 아닙니다.
We are not alone.
우리는 붙들린 사람들입니다.
We are people who are being held.
우리를 데려오신 하나님이,
The God who has brought us this far,
앞으로도 우리를 데려가실 것입니다.
will continue to lead us.
그것이면 충분합니다.
That is enough.

하나님 아버지,
Father God,
우리를 여기까지 데려오신 은혜를 감사합니다.
we thank you for the grace that has brought us this far.
고난 속에서 우리를 떠나지 않으시고,
Thank you that you did not leave us in our suffering,
오히려 우리 곁으로 오신 주님을 찬양합니다.
but came near to us.
우리가 성령을 근심하게 했던 순간들을 용서해 주옵소서.
Forgive us for the times we have grieved your Spirit.
다시 주님께 마음을 돌립니다.
We turn our hearts back to you.
다시 성령의 인도를 따르기를 원합니다.
We desire to follow the leading of your Spirit again.
우리가 멀어졌을 때도 기다려 주신 아버지 하나님,
Father God who waited for us even when we were far away,
이제는 우리가 주님 곁에 머물게 하옵소서.
keep us near to you.
우리의 남은 길도 주님의 손에 맡깁니다.
We place the rest of our journey into your hands.
예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도드립니다.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
아멘.
