People Who Worship the Child
마태복음 2:8–12
Matthew 2:8–12
우리는 모두 무엇인가를 찾으며 살아갑니다.
We all live our lives searching for something.
의미를 찾고, 안전을 찾고, 사랑을 찾고, 답을 찾습니다.
We search for meaning, for security, for love, and for answers.
그래서 우리는 질문하며 삽니다.
That is why we live asking questions.
이 길이 맞는가, 이 선택이 옳은가, 내 삶은 어디로 가는가.
Is this the right path? Is this the right choice? Where is my life going?
성경은 믿음이 확신에서 시작된다고 말하지 않습니다.
The Bible does not say that faith begins with certainty.
믿음은 질문에서 시작된다고 말합니다.
It says that faith begins with questions.
오늘 본문에는 질문하는 사람들이 나옵니다.
In today’s passage, we meet people who ask questions.
별을 보고 질문한 사람들, 동방박사들입니다.
They are the Magi who saw the star and began to ask.
그리고 그 질문을 두려워한 사람도 나옵니다. 헤롯입니다.
And there is also someone who was afraid of those questions — Herod.
이 두 부류의 사람들 사이에서, 하나님은 자신을 보여 주십니다.
Between these two kinds of people, God reveals himself.
오늘 우리는 이 본문을 통해 세 가지를 보려고 합니다.
Today, through this passage, we will look at three things.
하나님은 사람 안에 찾는 마음을 일으키시는 분이십니다.
God is the one who awakens a searching heart within us.
사람은 왜 하나님을 거부하기도 하는지,
Why people sometimes reject God,
그리고 우리는 어떤 모습으로 하나님 앞에 서야 하는지를 보려고 합니다.
and how we should stand before God.
1.하나님은 사람 안에 찾는 마음을 일으키시는 분이십니다 (1–2)
God is the One who awakens a searching heart within us
오늘 본문에는 사람들이 등장합니다.
In today’s passage, people appear.
먼저 하늘을 보는 사람들이 나옵니다.
First, we meet people who look to the heavens.
동방에서 온 박사들입니다.
They are the Magi from the East.
이 사람들은 유대인이 아닙니다.
They are not Jews.
성경을 가진 사람들도 아닙니다.
They do not have the Scriptures.
교회 안에 있던 사람들도 아닙니다.
They were not part of the religious community.
그런데 이 사람들이 길을 떠납니다.
Yet these people set out on a journey.
이유는 하나입니다.
There is one reason.
그들은 별을 보았기 때문입니다.
They saw a star.
그런데 왜 별입니까?
But why a star?
별은 그냥 빛이 아닙니다.
A star is not just a light.
그들에게 별은 질문이었습니다.
For them, the star was a question.
이 세상에는 질서가 있다는 질문입니다.
A question that there is order in this world.
이 세상에는 우연이 아닌 무엇인가가 있다는 질문입니다.
A question that there is something more than mere chance.
이 세상을 움직이는 분이 누구인가라는 질문입니다.
A question about who is moving and governing this world.
믿음은 답으로 시작하지 않습니다.
Faith does not begin with answers.
질문으로 시작합니다.
It begins with questions.
그래서 이 사람들은 계산하지 않습니다.
So they do not calculate.
이익을 따지지 않습니다.
They do not weigh their own advantage.
손해를 보지 않을지를 묻지 않습니다.
They do not ask whether they will lose something.
그들은 움직입니다.
They move.
길을 떠납니다.
They set out on the road.
찾으러 갑니다.
They go to search.
그들은 모든 것을 알지 못했습니다.
They did not know everything.
그러나 찾았습니다.
But they searched.
그들은 진리를 소유하지 않았습니다.
They did not possess the truth.
그러나 진리를 향해 걸었습니다.
But they walked toward the truth.
그래서 그들은 예루살렘까지 옵니다.
So they came as far as Jerusalem.
그리고 묻습니다.
And they ask,
“유대인의 왕으로 나신 분이 어디 계십니까?”
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?”
그들은 자기 한계를 인정합니다.
They acknowledge their own limits.
그래서 묻습니다.
So they ask.
이것이 참된 구도의 모습입니다.
This is the true posture of those who seek.
그리고 여기서 중요한 일이 일어납니다.
And here something important happens.
하늘을 보던 사람들이 이제 말씀의 자리로 옵니다.
Those who were looking at the heavens now come to the place of the Word.
별은 그들을 출발하게 했고,
The star made them set out,
말씀은 그들을 정확히 인도합니다.
but the Word leads them precisely.
그러므로 오늘 우리가 먼저 알아야 할 것은 이것입니다.
So this is what we must first understand today.
하나님은 우리가 먼저 하나님을 찾도록 내버려 두시는 분이 아닙니다.
God does not simply leave us to find Him on our own.
하나님은 먼저 우리 안에 질문을 일으키시는 분이십니다.
God is the one who first stirs questions within us.
먼저 우리 안에 갈망을 넣어 주시는 분이십니다.
He is the one who first plants longing in our hearts.
먼저 우리를 흔들어 깨우시는 분이십니다.
He is the one who first shakes us awake.
그래서 우리가 하나님을 찾는 것처럼 보이지만,
So although it looks like we are searching for God,
사실은 하나님이 먼저 우리를 찾고 계십니다.
in truth, God is the one who is searching for us first.
그리고 그 찾으심이 우리 안에서 “찾고 싶은 마음”으로 나타나는 것입니다.
And that searching is expressed within us as a desire to seek Him.
그래서 하나님은 우리가 하나님을 찾기를 기다리시는 분이 아니라,
So God is not the one who waits for us to search for Him,
우리가 찾고 싶어지도록 먼저 일하시는 분이십니다.
He is the one who works first so that we want to seek Him.
우리가 질문하는 것도 은혜입니다.
Our asking questions is grace.
우리가 흔들리는 것도 은혜입니다.
Our being unsettled is grace.
우리가 갈망하는 것도 은혜입니다.
Our longing is grace.
그 모든 것이 하나님이 먼저 우리에게 다가오고 계시다는 표시입니다.
All of this is a sign that God is already coming toward us first.
하나님은 숨어 계신 분이 아닙니다.
God is not one who hides Himself.
찾을 수 있도록 흔적을 남기시는 분이십니다.
He is one who leaves traces so that we may find Him.
그래서 혹시 오늘 이런 분이 계십니까?
So perhaps there is someone here today who says,
“하나님이 정말 계실까?”
“Is God really there?”
“계신다면, 왜 내 삶에는 이렇게 조용하실까?”
“If He is, why does He seem so silent in my life?”
그런데 오늘 이 자리에 오신 것이 정말 우연일까요?
But is it really a coincidence that you are here today?
성경은 이렇게 말합니다.
The Bible says this:
사람이 마음으로 자기의 길을 계획할지라도, 그의 걸음을 인도하시는 이는 여호와이시라고 말합니다.
“A person may plan their own way, but the Lord directs their steps.”
아버지께서 이끌지 아니하시면 아무도 내게 올 수 없다고 말합니다.
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them.”
이 말은 무슨 뜻입니까?
What does this mean?
우리가 하나님을 찾는 것처럼 보이지만,
Although it looks like we are searching for God,
사실은 하나님이 먼저 우리를 찾고 계셨다는 뜻입니다.
it means that God has been searching for us first.
그러므로 오늘 이 말씀을 듣는 것은 우연이 아닐 수 있습니다.
So hearing this word today may not be a coincidence.
우리의 질문이 하나님의 초대일 수 있습니다.
Your questions may be God’s invitation.
우리의 갈망이 하나님의 부르심일 수 있습니다.
Your longing may be God’s calling.
하나님은 완성된 사람을 부르시지 않습니다.
God does not call those who are already complete.
찾는 사람을 부르십니다.
He calls those who are seeking.
움직이는 사람을 만나 주십니다.
He meets those who are moving toward Him.
이것이 하나님이 일하시는 방식입니다.
This is the way God works.
2.어떤 사람들은 하나님을 두려워하고 거부합니다 (3–8)
Some people fear God and reject Him
이제 장면이 바뀝니다.
Now the scene changes.
하늘을 보던 사람들에서, 궁전을 지키는 사람들로 바뀝니다.
From people who were looking at the sky to people guarding a palace.
동방박사의 질문이 예루살렘을 흔듭니다.
The Magi’s question shakes Jerusalem.
“유대인의 왕으로 나신 분이 어디 계십니까?”
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?”
이 질문 하나에, 헤롯과 온 예루살렘이 소동합니다.
At this one question, Herod and all Jerusalem are disturbed.
왜 소동합니까?
Why are they disturbed?
기쁜 소식이어야 할 왕의 탄생이, 왜 두려움이 됩니까?
Why does the birth of a king, which should be good news, become a cause for fear?
이유는 하나입니다.
There is one reason.
그분이 오시면, 자기 자리가 흔들리기 때문입니다.
Because if He comes, their own position is shaken.
헤롯은 묻습니다.
Herod asks.
대제사장들과 서기관들을 모읍니다.
He gathers the chief priests and the scribes.
성경을 펴게 합니다.
He has the Scriptures opened.
“그리스도가 어디서 나십니까?”
“Where is the Messiah to be born?”
그들은 정확히 대답합니다.
They answer precisely.
“베들레헴입니다.”
“In Bethlehem.”
그들은 말씀을 알고 있었습니다.
They knew the Scriptures.
그러나 그 말씀 때문에 기뻐하지 않았습니다.
But they were not glad because of it.
그 말씀 때문에 움직이지도 않았습니다.
They did not move because of it either.
왜입니까?
Why?
그분이 오시면,
Because if He comes,
자신들이 중심에 있던 자리를 빼앗긴다고 느꼈기 때문입니다.
they feel that the place where they were at the center will be taken away.
헤롯은 말합니다.
Herod says,
“나도 가서 경배하겠다.”
“I too will go and worship Him.”
그러나 그의 마음은 경배가 아닙니다.
But his heart is not worship.
그의 마음은 제거입니다.
His heart is elimination.
그는 하나님을 찾지 않습니다.
He does not seek God.
하나님을 통제하려 합니다.
He tries to control God.
같은 계시 앞에서,
Before the same revelation,
어떤 사람은 무릎을 꿇고,
some kneel down,
어떤 사람은 칼을 듭니다.
and some draw a sword.
그래서 질문은 이것입니다.
So the question is this:
우리는 하나님을 찾고 있습니까?
Are we seeking God?
아니면 하나님을 두려워하고 있습니까?
Or are we afraid of Him?
우리는 하나님을 만나고 싶습니까?
Do we want to meet God?
아니면 하나님을 내 뜻대로 쓰고 싶습니까?
Or do we want to use God for our own purposes?
헤롯은 나쁜 사람이기 이전에,
Before Herod is a bad person,
자기 자리를 잃고 싶지 않은 사람입니다.
he is someone who does not want to lose his position.
그래서 그는 하나님을 거부합니다.
So he rejects God.
그의 방식은 아주 인간적입니다.
His way is very human.
그래서 더 위험합니다.
And that is why it is more dangerous.
이 본문은 우리에게 묻습니다.
This passage asks us:
나는 동방박사 쪽에 서 있습니까?
Am I standing with the Magi?
아니면 헤롯 쪽에 서 있습니까?
Or am I standing with Herod?
나는 하나님 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 있습니까?
Am I kneeling before God?
아니면 하나님 앞에 방패를 들고 있습니까?
Or am I holding up a shield before God?
그런데 더 깊이 보면,
But if we look more deeply,
그들이 하나님을 거부한 이유는 하나님이 싫어서가 아니었습니다.
the reason they rejected God was not because they hated Him.
하나님을 잘못 알았기 때문입니다.
It was because they misunderstood Him.
그들은 하나님을 이렇게 생각했습니다.
They thought of God like this:
하나님은 자기 자리를 빼앗는 분이라고.
That God takes away their position.
하나님은 자기 삶을 망가뜨리는 분이라고.
That God ruins their life.
하나님은 자기 자유를 빼앗는 분이라고.
That God takes away their freedom.
그래서 하나님은 소망이 아니라 위협이 되었습니다.
So God became a threat instead of hope.
구원이 아니라 경쟁자가 되었습니다.
He became a rival instead of a Savior.
그러나 그것은 하나님에 대한 오해였습니다.
But that was a misunderstanding of God.
그래서 하나님은 자신을 다시 보여 주셔야 했습니다.
So God had to show Himself again.
그래서 하나님은 말이 아니라 삶으로,
So God revealed Himself not through words but through a life,
설명이 아니라 모습으로 자신을 보여 주셨습니다.
not through explanations but through a living example.
하나님은 어떤 분이십니까?
Who is God?
하나님은 아들을 통해 자신을 보여 주셨습니다.
God has shown Himself through His Son.
3.우리는 그분 앞에 나아가 경배하는 사람으로 살아야 합니다 (9–12)
We must live as people who come before Him and worship Him
이제 다시 길 위의 사람들로 돌아옵니다.
Now we return to the people on the road.
동방박사들입니다.
They are the Magi.
그들은 헤롯을 떠납니다.
They leave Herod.
그때 별이 다시 나타납니다.
Then the star appears again.
그리고 그 별은 그들을 아기가 있는 곳까지 인도합니다.
And the star leads them to the place where the child is.
이것은 무엇을 말합니까?
What does this mean?
하나님은 찾는 사람을 버려 두지 않으신다는 뜻입니다.
It means that God does not abandon those who seek Him.
하나님은 찾는 사람을 끝까지 인도하신다는 뜻입니다.
It means that God leads those who seek Him all the way.
그들은 집에 들어갑니다.
They enter the house.
그리고 아기를 봅니다.
And they see the child.
그리고 엎드려 경배합니다.
And they fall down and worship Him.
그들이 경배한 대상은 분명합니다.
The one they worship is clear.
그들은 어머니를 경배하지 않았습니다.
They did not worship the mother.
그들은 아기를 경배했습니다.
They worshiped the child.
그들은 예수 앞에 무릎을 꿇었습니다.
They knelt before Jesus.
왜입니까?
Why?
구원은 사람에게서 나오지 않기 때문입니다.
Because salvation does not come from human beings.
구원은 하나님께로부터 오기 때문입니다.
Salvation comes from God.
마리아는 복 받은 사람이지만, 구원자는 아닙니다.
Mary is a blessed person, but she is not the Savior.
이것은 마리아를 낮추려는 말이 아니라, 예수를 높이려는 말입니다.
This is not to lower Mary, but to exalt Jesus.
예수는 복을 받은 분이 아니라, 복의 근원이십니다.
Jesus is not one who receives blessing; He is the source of blessing.
그래서 성경은 말합니다.
That is why Scripture says,
그들이 “아기께 경배하였다”고.
that “they worshiped the child.”
그들은 예물을 드립니다.
They present gifts.
황금과 유향과 몰약입니다.
Gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
아마도 그들은 이 예물들이 이렇게 깊은 뜻을 담고 있는지 다 알지 못했을지도 모릅니다.
Perhaps they did not fully understand the deep meaning of these gifts.
그들은 단지 자기들이 드릴 수 있는 가장 귀한 것을 드렸을 뿐입니다.
They simply offered the most precious things they could give.
그러나 하나님은 그 예물을 통해
But through these gifts, God
이 아기가 어떤 분이신지를 보여 주셨습니다.
revealed who this child truly is.
황금은 왕을 위한 예물입니다.
Gold is a gift for a king.
이분은 우리의 왕이십니다.
He is our King.
유향은 하나님께 드리는 향입니다.
Frankincense is an offering presented to God.
유향은 구약에서 제사장이 하나님 앞에 드리던 향입니다.
In the Old Testament, it was incense offered by priests before God.
제사장은 사람을 대신하여 하나님 앞에 서는 사람이었습니다.
The priest stood before God on behalf of the people.
사람의 죄를 안고 하나님 앞에 나아가는 사람이었습니다.
He went before God carrying the sins of the people.
그리고 하나님의 은혜를 가지고 다시 사람에게 돌아오는 사람이었습니다.
And he returned to the people with God’s grace.
그래서 제사장은 다리와 같은 사람이었습니다.
So the priest was like a bridge.
하나님과 사람 사이를 이어 주는 사람이었습니다.
A bridge between God and people.
그런데 이 아기는 단지 제사장이 아닙니다.
But this child is not just a priest.
이 아기는 완전한 제사장입니다.
He is the perfect priest.
자기를 제물로 드리는 제사장입니다.
A priest who offers Himself as the sacrifice.
그래서 이분은 하나님과 우리 사이를 이어 주시는 분이십니다.
So He is the one who brings God and us together.
몰약은 죽은 몸에 바르던 향입니다.
Myrrh was used to anoint the bodies of the dead.
이분은 우리를 위해 자신을 내어주실 분이십니다.
He is the one who will give Himself for us.
우리와 하나님을 화목하게 하실 분이십니다.
He is the one who will reconcile us to God.
그들은 몰랐을지 모르지만,
They may not have known this,
하나님은 알고 계셨습니다.
but God knew.
그들의 손은 예물을 들고 있었지만,
Their hands were holding gifts,
하나님의 손은 그 예물을 통해 복음을 드러내고 계셨습니다.
but God’s hand was revealing the gospel through those gifts.
이것은 거래가 아닙니다.
This is not a transaction.
보답이 아닙니다.
It is not a payment.
자기를 드리는 표시입니다.
It is a sign of self-giving.
그들은 다른 길로 돌아갑니다.
They return by another way.
이것은 단순한 우회가 아닙니다.
This is not just a detour.
삶의 방향이 바뀌었다는 뜻입니다.
It means that the direction of their life has changed.
그들은 더 이상 헤롯에게 돌아가지 않습니다.
They no longer return to Herod.
더 이상 두려움의 질서로 돌아가지 않습니다.
They no longer return to the order of fear.
그들은 하나님의 길로 들어섰습니다.
They have entered God’s way.
그래서 질문은 이것입니다.
So the question is this:
우리는 누구 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 있습니까?
Before whom do we kneel?
우리는 무엇을 가장 소중히 여기고 있습니까?
What do we value most?
우리는 누구에게 우리 삶을 드리고 있습니까?
To whom do we offer our lives?
그리고 우리는 어느 길로 돌아가고 있습니까?
And which way are we returning by?
예수를 만난 사람은
A person who has met Jesus
같은 길로 돌아가지 않습니다.
does not return by the same road.
같은 마음으로 돌아가지 않습니다.
They do not return with the same heart.
같은 삶으로 돌아가지 않습니다.
They do not return to the same life.
경배는 예배 시간에 끝나지 않습니다.
Worship does not end with the worship service.
경배는 삶으로 이어집니다.
Worship continues into life.
예수를 만난 사람은
A person who has met Jesus
자기를 중심에 두지 않습니다.
does not place themselves at the center.
자기를 내려놓습니다.
They lay themselves down.
자기를 지키는 사람이 아니라,
They are no longer people who protect themselves,
자기를 내어주는 사람이 됩니다.
but people who give themselves away.
이것이 동방박사의 길입니다.
This is the way of the Magi.
이것이 제자의 길입니다.
This is the way of a disciple.
이제 오늘 말씀을 정리해 보겠습니다.
Now let us sum up today’s message.
오늘 본문은 두 길을 보여 줍니다.
Today’s passage shows us two paths.
하나는 별을 따라가는 길입니다.
One is the path that follows the star.
질문을 가지고 하나님께 나아가는 길입니다.
It is the path of coming to God with our questions.
다른 하나는 자리를 지키는 길입니다.
The other is the path of guarding our own position.
자기 중심을 놓지 않으려는 길입니다.
It is the path of refusing to let go of being at the center.
동방박사는 길을 떠났고, 헤롯은 자리를 지켰습니다.
The Magi left their place, and Herod held onto his position.
그러나 하나님은 길 위에서 만날 수 있었고, 궁전 안에서는 만날 수 없었습니다.
But God could be met on the road, not inside the palace.
그리고 하나님은 마침내 자신을 보여 주셨습니다.
And God finally revealed Himself.
말이 아니라 삶으로,
Not through words, but through a life;
권능이 아니라 사랑으로,
not through power, but through love;
높아짐이 아니라 낮아지심으로.
not through exaltation, but through humility.
그러므로 이제 질문은 이것입니다.
So now the question is this:
나는 지금 무엇을 붙잡고 있습니까?
What am I holding onto right now?
나는 지금 어느 길 위에 서 있습니까?
On which path am I standing right now?
오늘 우리도 동방박사처럼 길을 떠나는 사람이 되기를 바랍니다.
Today, may we also become people who set out on the road like the Magi.
질문을 품고, 두려움을 내려놓고,
Carrying our questions and laying down our fears,
예수 앞에 무릎을 꿇는 사람이 되기를 바랍니다.
may we become people who kneel before Jesus.
그때 하나님은 우리에게도 자신을 보여 주실 것입니다.
Then God will reveal Himself to us as well.
그리고 우리의 길도 바꾸어 주실 것입니다.
And He will change our path.
이것이 복음입니다.
This is the gospel.
설교 후 기도 Prayer after the Sermon
하나님 아버지,
Heavenly Father,
우리를 먼저 찾으시고,
thank You for seeking us first
우리 안에 찾는 마음을 일으켜 주셔서 감사합니다.
and for awakening in us a desire to seek You.
우리가 두려움으로 하나님을 밀어내지 않게 하시고,
Keep us from pushing You away out of fear,
겸손히 무릎 꿇고 주님을 맞이하게 하옵소서.
and help us to welcome You with humble hearts.
말이 아니라 삶으로 오신 예수님을 바라보게 하시고,
Help us to look to Jesus who came not in words but in life,
그 앞에서 우리의 길이 바뀌게 하옵소서.
and let our path be changed before Him.
우리의 예배가 이 자리에서 끝나지 않고,
May our worship not end in this place,
삶으로 이어지게 하옵소서.
but continue into our daily lives.
예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.
