오실 주님을 기다립니다
이사야 7:1-16
대림절의 마지막 주일에 우리는
On this final Sunday of Advent, we stand
이제 기다림의 끝자락에 서 있습니다.
at the very edge of our waiting.
오늘 말씀은 우리에게 이렇게 묻습니다.
Today, the Word asks us this question:
“너는 무엇을 붙들며, 어떻게 기다리고 있는가?”
“What are you holding on to, and how are you waiting?”
이사야 7장의 말씀은
The message of Isaiah chapter 7
위협이 가득한 현실 한가운데서
speaks to us in the midst of a reality filled with threats,
하나님의 백성이 선택해야 할 길을 보여 줍니다.
showing the path God’s people are called to choose.
위협을 극복하기 위해 세상적인 방법을 택할 것인가,
Will we choose worldly methods to overcome the threat,
아니면 하나님을 의지하며
or will we rely on God
나와 공동체의 삶을 다시 돌아볼 것인가를 묻습니다.
and reexamine our own lives and the life of our community?
우리에게 진정으로 필요한 것은
What we truly need
강한 해결책이 아니라
is not a stronger solution,
임마누엘을 기다리는 길입니다.
but the path of waiting for Immanuel.
오늘 이 말씀을 통해
Through this Word today,
오실 주님을 기다린다는 것이
we want to see that waiting for the coming Lord
막연한 기대가 아니라,
is not a vague hope,
삶의 방향을 새롭게 선택하는 신앙임을
but a faith that chooses a new direction for our lives,
함께 확인하고자 합니다.
and to confirm this together.
1. 위협을 이기는 길은 힘이 아니라 하나님의 은혜이기 때문입니다 (1–9)
The way to overcome threat is not through power, but through the grace of God. (1–9)
유다 앞에 놓인 현실은 분명했습니다.
The reality facing Judah was clear.
아람과 이스라엘이 연합하여 예루살렘을 치러 옵니다.
Aram and Israel had formed an alliance and were advancing against Jerusalem.
이 위협은 소문이 아니라 실제였고,
This threat was not a rumor, but a concrete reality,
왕과 백성의 마음은 성경이 말하듯
and the hearts of the king and the people,
“숲이 바람에 흔들리듯” 흔들리고 있었습니다.
as Scripture says, were shaken like trees of the forest in the wind.
여기서 우리는 먼저 묻게 됩니다.
At this point, we are led to ask,
하나님의 백성도 이렇게 두려워할 수 있는가?
Can God’s people also be so afraid?
본문은 숨기지 않습니다.
The text does not hide this.
믿음의 공동체도 위협 앞에서는 흔들릴 수 있습니다.
Even a community of faith can be shaken in the face of threat.
이사야 7장은 두려움을 죄로 몰아붙이지 않습니다.
Isaiah chapter 7 does not condemn fear as sin.
하나님은 그 두려움의 현실을 먼저 인정하십니다.
God first acknowledges the reality of that fear.
그러면 하나님은 이 위협 앞에서 무엇을 요구하십니까?
Then what does God require in the face of this threat?
군사를 모으라고 말씀하십니까?
Does He tell them to gather troops?
더 강한 동맹을 찾으라고 하십니까?
Does He command them to seek a stronger alliance?
아닙니다.
No.
하나님은 뜻밖의 말씀으로 시작하십니다.
God begins with an unexpected word.
“조용히 하라.
“Be calm.
두려워하지 말라.
Do not fear.
마음이 약해지지 말라.”
Do not let your heart grow faint.”
이 말씀은 상황이 가볍다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
These words do not mean the situation is insignificant.
하나님은 위협이 크다는 것을 알고 계십니다.
God knows how great the threat truly is.
그러나 동시에 하나님은
Yet at the same time, God makes it clear
그 위협이 우리의 미래를 결정하는 결정권자가 아니라는 사실을 분명히 하십니다.
that the threat is not the one who decides our future.
그렇다면 오늘 우리는 어떤 일로 염려하고 있습니까?
Then what are we worried about today?
경제적인 불안입니까,
Is it financial uncertainty,
건강의 문제입니까,
health concerns,
자녀의 미래입니까,
the future of our children,
관계의 깨어짐입니까,
broken relationships,
혹은 교회와 공동체의 앞날에 대한 염려입니까?
or anxiety about the future of our church and community?
이 위협들은 우리 눈앞에 실제로 존재합니다.
These threats truly exist before our eyes.
그래서 더 크게 느껴지고,
That is why they feel even greater,
그래서 우리의 마음을 쉽게 흔들어 놓습니다.
and why they so easily shake our hearts.
그러나 하나님은
But God calls
유다를 위협하고 있던 아람 왕 르신과 이스라엘 왕 베가를
King Rezin of Aram and King Pekah of Israel, who threatened Judah,
“연기 나는 두 부지깽이 그루터기”라 부르십니다.
“smoldering stubs of firewood.”
이 말은 상대를 조롱하기 위한 표현이 아닙니다.
This is not language meant to mock the enemy.
하나님 앞에서 그 위협이
Before God, that threat
이미 꺼져 가는 불과 같다는 선언입니다.
is a declaration that it is already like a dying fire.
사람의 눈에는 거대해 보이지만,
It may look overwhelming in human eyes,
하나님의 역사 안에서는
but within God’s unfolding history,
이미 끝을 향해 가고 있는 존재라는 뜻입니다.
it is already moving toward its end.
그러면 하나님의 관심은 어디에 있습니까?
So where is God’s concern directed?
적에게 있습니까, 아니면 하나님의 백성에게 있습니까?
Is it toward the enemy, or toward God’s people?
하나님의 초점은 분명합니다.
God’s focus is clear.
적이 무엇을 하느냐보다,
More than what the enemy is doing,
하나님의 백성이 어디에 서느냐입니다.
God is concerned with where His people are standing.
그래서 하나님은 이렇게 말씀하십니다.
That is why God says,
“너희가 믿지 아니하면 정녕 서지 못하리라.”
“If you do not stand firm in faith, you will not stand at all.”
이 말은 위협이 아닙니다.
This is not a threat.
“더 열심히 믿어라”는 압박도 아닙니다.
Nor is it pressure to believe harder.
이 말씀은 하나의 선택지를 제시합니다.
These words present a choice.
너희는
Will you stand
두려움 위에 설 것인가,
upon fear,
아니면 하나님의 약속 위에 설 것인가?
or upon the promise of God?
이사야 7장 1–9절은
Isaiah 7:1–9 makes it clear
하나님의 백성이 위협을 이기는 길이
that the way God’s people overcome threats
더 강해지는 데 있지 않음을 분명히 합니다.
is not by becoming stronger.
그 길은
That way is found
하나님이 누구신지를 다시 신뢰하는 자리,
in trusting again who God truly is,
하나님의 은혜 안에 서는 데 있습니다.
in standing within the grace of God.
위협은 여전히 존재하지만,
The threat may still exist,
그 위협이 역사를 결정하지는 않습니다.
but it does not determine history.
하나님의 은혜가 역사를 이끌기 때문입니다.
Because the grace of God is what leads history.
2. 하나님이 세상을 새롭게 하실 방법으로 임마누엘을 주셨기 때문입니다 (10–14)
Because God gave Immanuel as the way He renews the world (10–14)
하나님은 두려움에 흔들리는 유다를 향해
God takes one step closer
한 걸음 더 다가오십니다.
to Judah, who is shaken by fear.
이번에는 위로의 말만이 아니라,
This time, not only with words of comfort,
구체적인 초대를 주십니다.
but with a concrete invitation.
“네 하나님 여호와께 한 징조를 구하라.”
“Ask the LORD your God for a sign.”
하늘이든, 땅 깊은 곳이든,
Whether in the highest heights or the deepest depths,
어디서든 좋으니 구하라고 하십니다.
He tells him to ask.
여기서 우리는 멈추어 묻게 됩니다.
Here we pause and ask,
하나님은 왜 굳이 징조를 구하라고 하셨을까요?
Why does God insist on offering a sign?
하나님은 아하스의 연약함을 이미 알고 계십니다.
God already knows Ahaz’s weakness.
두려움에 흔들리는 그의 마음도,
He knows his trembling heart in fear,
상황을 감당할 자신이 없다는 사실도 알고 계십니다.
and that he feels unable to face the situation.
그래서 하나님은
So God does not say,
믿음이 완전해질 때까지 기다리라고 하시지 않고,
“Wait until your faith becomes complete,”
믿음이 부족한 사람에게
but instead opens,
믿음을 돕는 은혜의 통로를 여십니다.
for one with weak faith, a channel of grace to support faith.
그런데 아하스는 이 초대를 거절합니다.
But Ahaz refuses this invitation.
“나는 구하지 아니하겠나이다.
“I will not ask;
여호와를 시험하지 아니하겠나이다.”
I will not put the LORD to the test.”
겉으로 보면 경건해 보이는 말입니다.
On the surface, these words sound pious.
그러나 이 말 속에는
Yet hidden within them
이미 정해진 선택이 숨어 있습니다.
is a decision already made.
아하스는 하나님의 징조를 기다리기보다,
Rather than waiting for God’s sign,
이미 다른 해결책을 붙들고 있었기 때문입니다.
Ahaz had already clung to another solution.
아하스가 하나님을 의지하지 않았다는 것은
To say that Ahaz did not rely on God
기도를 하지 않았다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
does not mean he did not pray.
제사를 드리지 않았다는 말도 아닙니다.
Nor does it mean he stopped offering sacrifices.
그의 문제는,
His problem was not
하나님을 부정한 것이 아니라
that he denied God,
나라의 질서와 방향을
but that he refused to realign
하나님의 뜻에 맞게 다시 세우려 하지 않았다는 데 있었습니다.
the order and direction of the nation according to God’s will.
외세의 위협 앞에서
In the face of foreign threats,
하나님 앞에 머물며 공동체를 바로 세우기보다,
instead of remaining before God and restoring the community,
더 강해 보이는 힘에 기대어
he chose to rely on power that seemed stronger,
문제를 빨리 해결하려는 길을 선택한 것입니다.
seeking a quicker solution.
그래서 징조를 구하라는 하나님의 초대는
That is why God’s invitation to ask for a sign
그에게 은혜가 아니라
felt to him not like grace,
이미 세워 둔 계획을 흔드는 방해처럼 느껴졌습니다.
but like an obstacle that would disrupt his plans.
아하스의 거절을 들으신 하나님은 이제
After hearing Ahaz’s refusal, God now speaks
더 이상 아하스 개인이 아니라
no longer to Ahaz alone,
“다윗의 집”을 향해 말씀하십니다.
but to the “house of David.”
이는 한 왕의 문제가 아니라,
This is because it is not merely the issue of one king,
하나님의 언약 공동체 전체의 문제이기 때문입니다.
but a matter concerning the entire covenant community.
하나님은 이렇게 선언하십니다.
God then makes this declaration:
“그러므로 주께서 친히 징조를 너희에게 주실 것이라.”
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.”
사람이 구하지 않아도,
Even if people do not ask,
사람이 기대하지 않아도,
even if they do not expect it,
하나님은 스스로 징조를 주십니다.
God gives the sign by His own initiative.
구원은 언제나
Salvation always
사람의 결단에서 시작되지 않고,
does not begin with human decision,
하나님의 주권적인 은혜에서 시작됩니다.
but with God’s sovereign grace.
그런데 하나님께서 보이시려는 징조는 놀랍게도
And yet the sign God chooses to show is surprising—
강한 군대도, 새로운 동맹도 아닙니다.
it is not a powerful army or a new alliance.
하나님은 세상을 새롭게 하실 방법으로
As the way to renew the world, God gives
연약한 아기를 주십니다.
a vulnerable child.
“보라, 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이요
“Look, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,
그의 이름을 임마누엘이라 하리라.”
and will call him Immanuel.”
이 이름이 징조입니다.
This name itself is the sign.
임마누엘,
Immanuel—
하나님이 우리와 함께 계신다는 선언입니다.
a declaration that God is with us.
하나님은
God does not work
우리 앞에 놓인 위협을 제거하는 방식으로만 일하지 않으십니다.
only by removing the threats before us.
하나님은
Rather, God is the One
우리와 함께하심으로 역사를 바꾸는 분이십니다.
who changes history by being with us.
하나님은 우리에게
God does not tell us
강해져서 살아남으라고 말씀하지 않으시고,
to become strong in order to survive,
우리와 함께하시는 하나님 안에서
but calls us, within the presence of the God who is with us,
새로운 길을 걸어야 함을 말씀하십니다.
to walk a new path.
이 징조는
This sign is not
문제를 단번에 없애 주겠다는 약속이 아니라,
a promise that problems will instantly disappear,
문제 속에서도
but a promise that even in the midst of problems,
하나님이 떠나지 않으신다는 약속입니다.
God will not abandon us.
그리고 바로 여기서
And right here,
다음 질문이 우리 앞에 놓입니다.
the next question is placed before us.
하나님이 함께하신다면,
If God is with us,
그 연약한 임마누엘의 삶은
what should the life of that vulnerable Immanuel
어떤 모습이어야 하겠는가?
look like?
이 질문이
This question now
이제 다음 말씀으로 우리를 이끕니다.
leads us into the next passage.
임마누엘과 함께 사는 삶은
A life lived with Immanuel
구체적으로 무엇을 버리고,
speaks of what we must leave behind
무엇을 선택하는 삶인가를 말입니다.
and what we are called to choose.
3. 주님과 함께할 때만 악을 버리고 선을 택할 수 있기 때문입니다 (15–16)
Because only with the Lord can we turn from evil and choose what is good (15–16)
임마누엘의 징조는
The sign of Immanuel
단지 하나님이 함께 계신다는 선언에서 멈추지 않습니다.
does not stop at the declaration that God is with us.
그 징조는
That sign
하나님과 함께 살아가는 삶의 모습을
shows us concretely
구체적으로 보여 줍니다.
what it looks like to live with God.
성경은 말합니다.
Scripture tells us
그 아이가
that when the child
엉긴 젖과 꿀을 먹을 줄 알 때에,
knows enough to eat curds and honey,
악을 버리며 선을 택할 줄 알게 될 것이라고 말입니다.
he will know how to reject evil and choose what is good.
여기서 우리는 다시 묻게 됩니다.
Here we are led to ask again,
왜 성경은 아이의 성장 이야기를 이렇게 말하고 있을까요?
why does Scripture describe the child’s growth in this way?
엉긴 젖과 꿀은
Curds and honey
단순한 먹거리가 아닙니다.
are not merely food.
이는 가나안,
They are a symbol of Canaan,
젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅의 상징입니다.
the land flowing with milk and honey.
곧 하나님과 동행하는 백성이
They point to the fullness of life
누리는 삶의 풍성함을 가리킵니다.
enjoyed by a people who walk with God.
그러나 이 풍성함은
Yet this fullness
아무 조건 없이 주어지지 않습니다.
is not given without condition.
성경은 분명히 말합니다.
Scripture speaks clearly.
임마누엘과 함께 자라는 삶은
A life that grows with Immanuel
악을 버리고 선을 택하는 삶이라고 말입니다.
is a life that turns from evil and chooses good.
이 말씀은 신명기의 선언을 떠올리게 합니다.
These words remind us of the declaration in Deuteronomy.
하나님은 가나안 땅에 들어갈 백성에게 말씀하셨습니다.
God said to the people entering the land of Canaan,
“내가 오늘 생명과 사망과 복과 저주를 네 앞에 두었나니
“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses;
너와 네 자손이 살기 위하여 생명을 택하라.”
now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
하나님은
God did not
억지로 선하게 만들지 않으셨습니다.
force His people to be good.
대신 하나님은
Instead, God
어떤 선택이 생명으로 이어지는지
made clear which choice leads to life
분명히 보여 주셨습니다.
and which does not.
그리고 신명기는 분명히 말합니다.
And Deuteronomy clearly teaches us
하나님이 율법을 주신 이유는
that the reason God gave the law
우리의 자유를 빼앗기 위함이 아니라,
was not to take away our freedom,
우리의 행복과 생명을 지키기 위함이라는 것입니다.
but to guard our happiness and our life.
하나님은 아하스와 하나님의 백성에게
Through the sign of Immanuel, God wanted Ahaz and His people
임마누엘의 징조를 통해
to see clearly
무엇이 먼저여야 하는지를 보여 주고자 하셨습니다.
what must come first.
먼저 강해지는 것이 아니라,
Not becoming strong first,
먼저 선을 택하는 것입니다.
but choosing what is good first.
그러나 아하스는
But Ahaz
위협을 막기 위해
in order to stop the threat
하나님보다 앗수르의 힘을 먼저 붙들었습니다.
grasped the power of Assyria instead of trusting God.
강해지면 살 수 있을 것이라 생각했기 때문입니다.
He thought strength would guarantee survival.
그러나 그가 의지했던 그 힘은
Yet the power he relied on
결국 유다를 보호하지 못했고,
did not protect Judah,
오히려 유다를 짓누르는 도구가 되었습니다.
but became a force that oppressed it.
임마누엘 아기의 징조가 가르쳐 주는
The sign of the Immanuel child teaches us clearly
우선적인 선택은 분명합니다.
what the primary choice must be.
먼저 문제를 해결하는 것이 아니라,
It is not solving the problem first,
먼저 삶의 방향을 바로 세우는 것입니다.
but setting the direction of life right first.
임마누엘은
Immanuel is not
우리 대신 모든 선택을 해 주시는 분이 아닙니다.
the One who makes every choice for us.
임마누엘은
Immanuel is the One
우리 곁에 서서
who stands beside us
우리가 바르게 선택할 수 있도록
and enables us
함께하시는 하나님이십니다.
to choose rightly.
그래서 하나님이 함께하신다는 것은
Therefore, God being with us
편해진다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
does not mean life becomes easy.
아무 고민 없이 살게 된다는 뜻도 아닙니다.
Nor does it mean a life without struggle.
오히려 하나님이 함께하시기에
Rather, because God is with us,
우리는 더 분명한 선택 앞에 서게 됩니다.
we stand before clearer and sharper choices.
악을 버릴 것인가,
Will we turn from evil,
선을 택할 것인가.
or choose what is good?
두려움에 끌려갈 것인가,
Will we be driven by fear,
하나님의 뜻을 따라 걸을 것인가.
or walk according to God’s will?
그리고 성경은 분명히 말합니다.
And Scripture clearly declares
이 선택이 이루어지는 동안,
that as this choice is being made,
유다를 위협하던 그 두 왕의 땅은
the lands of the two kings who threatened Judah
버림을 받게 될 것이라고 말입니다.
will be laid waste.
이는 인간의 복수가 아닙니다.
This is not human revenge.
하나님의 백성이
When God’s people
하나님과 동행하며
walk with God
자기 삶의 자리를 바로 세워 갈 때,
and set their lives in proper order,
위협하던 세력은
the threatening powers
스스로 설 자리를 잃게 됩니다.
lose their footing on their own.
임마누엘의 길은
The way of Immanuel
강해져서 이기는 길이 아닙니다.
is not the way of winning by strength.
연약함 속에서도
Even in weakness,
하나님과 함께
with God
선을 택하는 길입니다.
it is the way of choosing what is good.
그리고 바로 그 길 위에서
And on that very path,
하나님의 백성은
the people of God
엉긴 젖과 꿀을 먹는 삶,
come to enjoy a life of curds and honey,
하나님과 동행하는 풍성함을
the fullness that comes
누리게 됩니다.
from walking with God.
이사야 7장 15–16절은
Isaiah 7:15–16 tells us this:
오실 주님을 기다린다는 것은
Waiting for the coming Lord
기적을 구경하는 신앙이 아니라,
is not a faith that watches miracles from a distance,
오늘의 삶에서 악을 버리고 선을 택하는
but a faith that, in daily life, turns from evil and chooses good—
임마누엘의 길을 걷는 것입니다.
a faith that walks the way of Immanuel.
대림절의 끝자락에 서 있는 우리는
Standing at the edge of Advent’s waiting,
이제 무엇을 기다리고 있는지가 아니라
we are no longer asking what we are waiting for,
어떻게 기다리고 있는지를 돌아보게 됩니다.
but how we are waiting.
이사야의 말씀은 분명히 말합니다.
The word of Isaiah speaks clearly.
위협을 이기는 길은 힘이 아니라 하나님의 은혜이며,
The way to overcome threat is not power, but the grace of God,
세상을 새롭게 하시는 하나님의 방법은
and God’s way of renewing the world
강한 해결책이 아니라 임마누엘이십니다.
is not a strong solution, but Immanuel.
그리고 임마누엘과 함께하는 삶은
And a life with Immanuel
기적을 구경하는 삶이 아니라
is not a life that watches miracles,
오늘의 자리에서 악을 버리고 선을 택하는 삶입니다.
but a life that turns from evil and chooses good in the here and now.
오실 주님을 기다린다는 것은
Waiting for the coming Lord
연약함 속에서도 하나님과 함께 걸으며
means walking with God even in weakness,
삶의 방향을 생명 쪽으로 선택하는 신앙입니다.
and choosing the direction of life toward life.
이 대림절의 마지막 주일에
On this final Sunday of Advent,
우리 모두가
may we all
임마누엘의 길 위에 서 있기를 소망합니다.
stand firmly on the way of Immanuel.
설교후 기도
주님,
Lord,
두려움 앞에서 힘을 붙들려 했던 우리의 마음을 내려놓게 하시고,
help us lay down our hearts that tried to cling to power in the face of fear,
임마누엘로 우리와 함께하시는 주님을 신뢰하게 하옵소서.
and teach us to trust You, who are with us as Immanuel.
오늘의 삶 속에서
In our daily lives,
악을 버리고 선을 택하는 길을 선택하게 하시고,
lead us to turn from evil and choose what is good,
연약함 속에서도 주님과 동행하는 믿음을 주소서.
and grant us faith to walk with You even in our weakness.
오실 주님을 기다리며
As we wait for the coming Lord,
생명의 길 위에 서게 하시기를
place us firmly on the path of life,
예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도드립니다.
we pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
