말라기 Malachi 4:1–6
말라기서는 포로기 이후에 기록되었습니다.
Malachi was written after the Babylonian exile.
이스라엘은 성전을 다시 세웠습니다.
Israel had rebuilt the temple.
겉보기에는 신앙이 회복된 것처럼 보였습니다.
On the outside, it looked as though faith had been restored.
그러나 마음은 식고 있었습니다.
But their hearts had grown cold.
예배는 형식이 되었습니다.
Worship had become a mere formality.
제사는 의무가 되었습니다.
Sacrifices had become obligations.
말씀에는 힘이 없었습니다.
The Word no longer carried power in their lives.
가정과 공동체는 갈라졌습니다.
Families and communities were breaking apart.
세상은 악이 더 강해 보였습니다.
Evil seemed stronger in the world.
하나님을 믿는 고백은 있었지만
They still confessed faith in God,
그 고백이 삶을 지탱하지 못했습니다.
yet that confession did not sustain their lives.
이것이 말라기서의 배경입니다.
This is the background of the book of Malachi.
하나님은 말라기 4장에서
In Malachi chapter 4, God shows
흔들리는 백성에게
to His shaken people
세 가지 은혜의 길을 보여주십니다.
three gracious paths.
우리가 약해질 때,
When we grow weak,
악이 강해 보일 때,
when evil seems powerful,
관계가 무너질 때,
when relationships collapse,
하나님께서 주시는 은혜가 무엇인지 알려주십니다.
He reveals the grace He provides.
그렇다면
Then,
하나님을 경외하는 사람에게 주시는 은혜는 무엇입니까?
what is the grace given to those who fear the Lord?
1. 하나님을 경외하는 사람은 그리스도의 빛 안에서 치유와 자유를 누립니다 (1–3)
Those Who Fear the Lord Experience Healing and Freedom in the Light of Christ
신앙의 길을 걷다 보면
As we walk the path of faith,
마음이 갑자기 약해질 때가 있습니다.
there are moments when our hearts suddenly grow weak.
겉으로는 담대해 보입니다.
Outwardly, we may appear confident,
그러나 속은 쉽게 흔들립니다.
but inside, we are easily shaken.
작은 말에도 마음이 상합니다.
A small word can wound us.
환경이 조금만 흔들려도 불안이 밀려옵니다.
Even slight changes in our circumstances bring anxiety.
감정은 하루에도 수차례 요동칩니다.
Our emotions rise and fall several times a day.
우리는 지푸라기처럼 연약합니다.
We are as fragile as straw.
말라기 4장은 이렇게 말합니다.
Malachi chapter 4 says this:
“교만한 자와 악을 행하는 자는
다 지푸라기 같을 것이라.” (4:1)
“The arrogant and every evildoer will be like stubble.” (4:1)
지푸라기는
Straw
불이 붙어야 타는 것이 아닙니다.
does not need a flame to be consumed.
그 자체로 약하고
It is inherently weak,
쉽게 타버릴 준비가 되어 있는 존재입니다.
ready to burn at the slightest spark.
성경은
The Bible says
하나님 없이 살아가려는 인간의 마음을
that the human heart trying to live without God
지푸라기 같다고 말합니다.
is like straw.
그런데 성경에는
Yet in Scripture,
이 지푸라기 같은 상태를
a person who deeply experienced this straw-like weakness
깊이 경험한 한 인물이 있습니다.
is introduced to us.
바로 엘리야입니다.
That person is Elijah.
우리는
We
엘리야를 위대한 선지자로 기억합니다.
remember Elijah as a great prophet.
하늘에서 불을 내린 사람입니다.
He called down fire from heaven.
바알 선지자들을 이긴 사람입니다.
He defeated the prophets of Baal.
그러나 그의 실제 이야기를 보면
But when we look closely at his story,
그 역시 쉽게 흔들렸습니다.
he too was easily shaken.
그 역시 사람의 말에 상했습니다.
He too was wounded by people’s words.
그 역시 두려움에 무너졌습니다.
He too collapsed in fear.
그 역시 어둠 속에 갇혔습니다.
He too became trapped in darkness.
열왕기상 19장을 보십시오.
Look at 1 Kings 19.
이세벨의 한마디 위협을 듣자
When Elijah heard one threatening word from Jezebel,
엘리야는 하루 만에 무너졌습니다.
he collapsed in a single day.
그는 광야로 도망쳤습니다.
He fled into the wilderness.
그리고 로뎀나무 아래에서 말했습니다.
And under a broom tree he said,
“여호와여, 넉넉하오니
“It is enough, Lord;
내 생명을 거두시옵소서…” (19:4)
take my life…” (19:4)
하늘에서 불을 내리던 사람이
The one who once called down fire from heaven
이제는 “저는 더 못하겠습니다”라고 말합니다.
now says, “I can’t do this anymore.”
엘리야 역시
Elijah, too,
우리처럼 지푸라기 같은 존재였습니다.
was as fragile as we are—like straw.
그러나 하나님은
But God
그를 책망하지 않으셨습니다.
did not rebuke him.
“왜 이러느냐?”
He did not ask, “What’s wrong with you?”
“믿음이 왜 이렇게 약하냐?”
Nor did He say, “Why is your faith so weak?”
말씀하지 않으셨습니다.
He said none of these things.
하나님은
Instead, God
천사를 보내어 먹이셨습니다.
sent an angel to feed him.
그의 몸을 다시 깨우셨습니다.
He restored Elijah’s body.
“일어나 먹으라”고 힘을 주셨습니다.
He strengthened him, saying, “Get up and eat.”
그를 호렙 산으로 이끄셨습니다.
He led him to Mount Horeb.
그리고 새로운 음성을 들려주셨습니다.
And there, He spoke a new word to him.
이 모든 과정이
This entire process
말라기 4:2에서 말하는 은혜입니다.
is the grace described in Malachi 4:2.
“공의로운 해가 떠올라
“The sun of righteousness will rise
치유하는 광선을 비추리라.” (4:2)
with healing in its rays.” (4:2)
엘리야가 다시 일어난 것은
Elijah rose again
그가 강했기 때문이 아닙니다.
not because he was strong.
하나님의 빛이
It was because the light of God
그의 마음에 스며들었기 때문입니다.
had seeped into his heart.
말라기 4장의 “치유하는 광선”은
The “healing rays” of Malachi 4
추상적인 개념이 아닙니다.
are not an abstract concept.
성경은 이 빛이
Scripture shows us that this light
실제로 사람의 삶을 바꾼 사건을 보여줍니다.
actually transformed people’s lives.
사울을 멈추게 한 빛입니다.
It was the light that stopped Saul.
사울은 바울이 되기 전의 이름입니다.
Saul was Paul’s name before his conversion.
그는 자신이 옳다고 확신했습니다.
He was convinced he was right.
그릇된 길을 달렸습니다.
He ran down the wrong path.
그러나 다메섹 도중
But on the road to Damascus,
하늘에서 빛이 비쳤습니다.
a light from heaven shone upon him.
그 빛은 그의 발걸음을 멈추게 했습니다.
That light stopped him in his tracks.
그의 잘못을 보게 했습니다.
It opened his eyes to his error.
전혀 새로운 길을 열었습니다.
It opened a completely new path.
그리스도의 빛은
The light of Christ
잘못된 길을 달릴 때
when we are running the wrong way
우리를 멈추게 하는 빛입니다.
is the light that stops us.
베드로에게도 빛이 비쳤습니다.
That same light shone upon Peter.
그는 세 번 주님을 부인했습니다.
He denied the Lord three times.
마음이 완전히 무너졌습니다.
His heart collapsed completely.
그러나 예수님은 갈릴리에서 찾아오셨습니다.
But Jesus came to him at Galilee.
“네가 나를 사랑하느냐”라고 물으셨습니다.
He asked, “Do you love Me?”
빛은 그의 마음 깊은 곳까지 스며들었습니다.
The light reached the deepest places of his heart.
그리스도의 빛은
The light of Christ
죄책감과 실패 속에 갇힌 마음을 일으킵니다.
raises the heart trapped in guilt and failure.
그리스도의 빛은
The light of Christ
지친 마음에 스며드는 치유의 빛입니다.
is the healing light that seeps into the weary heart.
말라기 4:2은 말합니다.
Malachi 4:2 says,
“너희가 나가서
“You will go out
외양간에서 나온 송아지같이 뛰리라.”
and frolic like well-fed calves.”
외양간은 갇힌 공간입니다.
A stall is a confined space.
움직일 힘도 없습니다.
There is no strength to move.
용기도 없습니다.
No courage.
소망도 없습니다.
No hope.
엘리야가 그랬습니다.
Elijah was like that.
우리도 그럴 때가 있습니다.
And sometimes, so are we.
그러나 빛이 비추면
But when the light shines,
움직이지 않던 마음이 움직이기 시작합니다.
a heart that would not move begins to move.
닫힌 마음이 열립니다.
A closed heart opens.
두려움이 풀립니다.
Fear loosens its grip.
다시 걸을 힘이 생깁니다.
Strength to walk returns.
뛰고 싶은 마음이 살아납니다.
A desire to run rises again.
오늘 이 자리에
Here today,
지친 분이 있을 수 있습니다.
there may be someone weary.
“너무 힘듭니다…”
“I’m so tired…”
“왜 이런 일이 나에게…”
“Why is this happening to me…”
이런 마음으로 앉아 계실 수 있습니다.
You may be sitting with such a heart.
그러나 하나님은 말씀하십니다.
But God says,
“내가 너희에게
“I will shine upon you
치유하는 광선을 비추겠다.”
with healing rays.”
이 빛은
This light
상황이 해결된 뒤에 오는 빛이 아닙니다.
is not a light that comes after circumstances improve.
지금 이 순간
It is a light that comes
우리 마음에 스며드는 빛입니다.
into our hearts in this very moment.
엘리야를 세운 그 빛.
The light that raised Elijah.
사울을 멈춘 그 빛.
The light that stopped Saul.
베드로를 일으킨 그 빛.
The light that restored Peter.
그 빛이 오늘 우리에게도 비춥니다.
That same light shines upon us today.
그리스도의 빛이 스며들면
When the light of Christ enters us,
지친 마음이 회복됩니다.
the weary heart is restored.
닫힌 마음이 열립니다.
The closed heart opens.
갇힌 영혼이 다시 뛰기 시작합니다.
The imprisoned soul begins to run again.
오늘 우리 모두에게
May that light
그 빛이 새롭게 비추기를 축복합니다.
shine anew upon all of us today.
2. 하나님을 경외하는 사람은 하나님의 말씀으로 악을 이깁니다 (4)
Those Who Fear the Lord Overcome Evil by the Word of God
말라기 4장의 배경은
The background of Malachi chapter 4
흔들림의 시대입니다.
is a time of great shaking.
악이 더 강해 보였습니다.
Evil appeared stronger.
세상의 소리가 더 컸습니다.
The noise of the world was louder.
사람들의 마음은 갈피를 잡지 못했습니다.
People’s hearts could not find stability.
그때 하나님은
At that moment, God
단 하나의 명령을 주셨습니다.
gave just one command:
“너희는 모세의 율법을 기억하라.” (4:4)
“Remember the law of my servant Moses.” (4:4)
왜 말씀을 붙잡으라 하셨습니까?
Why did God tell them to hold on to His Word?
사람의 마음은
Because the human heart
너무 쉽게 흔들리기 때문입니다.
is so easily shaken.
환경이 변하면 감정이 변합니다.
When circumstances change, our emotions change.
사람의 말 한마디에
At one person’s single word,
마음이 접힙니다.
our heart collapses.
두려운 일이 생기면
When something frightening happens,
판단이 흐려집니다.
our judgment becomes clouded.
믿음도 흔들릴 때가 있습니다.
Even our faith wavers at times.
하나님은 이것을 아셨습니다.
God knew this.
그래서 말씀을 주셨습니다.
So He gave His Word.
말씀을 기억하라 하셨습니다.
He commanded them to remember it.
엘리야는
Elijah
말씀으로 악을 이긴 사람입니다.
was a man who overcame evil by the Word.
그의 시대는 말라기 시대와 닮았습니다.
His time resembled the time of Malachi.
왕과 권력은 바알을 따랐습니다.
Kings and rulers followed Baal.
백성들의 마음은 우상으로 기울었습니다.
The hearts of the people leaned toward idols.
바알 선지자들이 산을 메웠습니다.
Baal’s prophets filled the mountains.
참된 믿음은 거의 보이지 않았습니다.
True faith was hardly visible.
엘리야는 혼자였습니다.
Elijah stood alone.
악은 더 강해 보였습니다.
Evil seemed stronger.
사람의 힘으로는
By human strength,
도저히 이길 수 없는 분위기였습니다.
it was impossible to overcome.
그러나 그의 비밀은
But his secret
단 하나였습니다.
was one thing.
“주의 말씀이 엘리야에게 임하여 이르시되…”
“The word of the Lord came to Elijah, saying…”
이 말은
This phrase
열왕기상 17–19장에서
appears repeatedly
계속 반복됩니다.
throughout 1 Kings 17–19.
즉 엘리야는
This means Elijah
감정으로 살지 않았습니다.
did not live by his emotions.
상황으로 판단하지 않았습니다.
He did not judge by circumstances.
다수가 옳다고 말해도
Even when the majority claimed they were right,
흔들리지 않았습니다.
he was not shaken.
그의 기준은 오직 말씀뿐이었습니다.
His standard was the Word of God alone.
“내가 네게 지시한 곳으로 가라.”
“Go to the place I tell you.”
“내가 너를 보내노라.”
“I am sending you.”
“너는 가서 아합에게 보이라.”
“Go and present yourself to Ahab.”
엘리야는
Elijah
말씀 한 줄을 붙잡고 움직였습니다.
moved forward holding onto a single word from God.
칼도 없었습니다.
He had no sword.
군대도 없었습니다.
He had no army.
권력도 없었습니다.
He had no political power.
그러나 말씀 하나로
But with the Word alone,
악을 이겼습니다.
he overcame evil.
말씀은
The Word
흔들리는 마음을 다시 세웁니다.
rebuilds a shaken heart.
말씀 없이 흔들리는 것은
Being shaken without the Word
믿음이 약해서가 아닙니다.
is not because our faith is weak—
우리가 사람이기 때문입니다.
it is because we are human.
말씀에서 멀어지면
When we drift away from the Word,
상처가 기준이 됩니다.
our wounds become our standard.
감정이 기준이 됩니다.
Our emotions become our guide.
사람의 시선이 기준이 됩니다.
People’s opinions become our measure.
상황이 답을 바꿉니다.
Circumstances rewrite our answers.
악의 영향이 스며듭니다.
The influence of evil seeps in.
그러나 말씀이 들어오면
But when the Word enters us,
전혀 다른 일이 일어납니다.
something entirely different happens.
흐트러진 마음이 정돈됩니다.
A scattered heart becomes ordered.
혼란 속에서 방향이 보입니다.
A direction appears in the midst of confusion.
두려움이 가라앉습니다.
Fear settles down.
악이 들어올 틈이 사라집니다.
Evil finds no room to enter.
마음에 평안이 찾아옵니다.
Peace settles in the heart.
말씀은
The Word
정죄가 아닙니다.
is not condemnation.
우리를 다시 세우는
It is God’s gentle hand
하나님의 손길입니다.
that raises us again.
오늘 우리도
Today we also
엘리야처럼 말씀으로 서야 합니다.
must stand upon the Word like Elijah.
말라기 시대도 그랬습니다.
It was so in Malachi’s time.
엘리야 시대도 그랬습니다.
It was so in Elijah’s time.
오늘 우리의 시대도 그렇습니다.
It is so in our time as well.
악은 여전히 강해 보입니다.
Evil still looks strong.
우리의 마음도 흔들립니다.
Our hearts still tremble.
그러나 하나님은
But God
한 사람을 통해 시대를 흔드십니다.
shakes an entire era through a single person.
말씀을 붙잡은 한 사람.
A person who clings to the Word.
환경보다 말씀을 신뢰한 한 사람.
One who trusts the Word above circumstances.
현실보다 하나님의 음성을 붙잡은 한 사람.
One who holds God’s voice above reality.
그를 통해 하나님은
Through such a person, God
역사를 다시 쓰십니다.
rewrites history.
오늘 이 말씀 앞에서
As we stand before this Word today,
우리가 모두
may we all
말씀 앞으로 돌아오기를 바랍니다.
return to the Word.
말씀은 공동체의 울타리입니다.
The Word is the fence that protects the community.
말씀은 마음을 보호하는 방패입니다.
The Word is the shield that guards the heart.
말씀은 악을 막는 빛입니다.
The Word is the light that repels evil.
말씀이 깊이 자리 잡을 때
When the Word takes deep root,
우리는 엘리야처럼
we, like Elijah,
흔들리는 시대 속에서도
even in a shaking age,
하나님의 길을 걷는 사람 됩니다.
become people who walk in the ways of God.
3. 하나님을 경외하는 사람은 엘리야의 마음으로 관계를 회복시킵니다 (5–6)
Those Who Fear the Lord Restore Relationships with the Heart of Elijah
우리가 삶에서 받는
The deepest wounds we experience in life
가장 깊은 상처는
almost always
대부분 관계에서 옵니다.
come from relationships.
가까운 사람의 서운함.
Disappointment from someone close.
설명되지 않는 오해.
Misunderstandings that cannot be explained.
말 한마디로 멀어진 마음.
Hearts distanced by a single word.
관계의 문제는
Relational wounds
우리 마음을 가장 무겁게 만듭니다.
weigh most heavily on our hearts.
말라기 4장의 마지막 말씀입니다.
Here is the final word of Malachi chapter 4:
“아버지의 마음을 자녀에게,
“He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children,
자녀의 마음을 그들의 아버지에게 돌이키게 하리라.” (4:6)
and the hearts of the children to their parents.”
성경의 마지막 선지서의 마지막 말씀입니다.
This is the last sentence of the last prophetic book in the Old Testament.
하나님의 마지막 말씀은
God’s final word
회개도 아니었습니다.
was not primarily repentance.
심판도 아니었습니다.
It was not judgment.
관계의 회복이었습니다.
It was the restoration of relationships.
하나님은
God
갈라진 마음을 다시 잇기 원하십니다.
desires to reconnect divided hearts.
등 돌린 세대를 다시 묶기 원하십니다.
He wants to bind together generations that have turned away from one another.
상처와 오해로 멀어진 사람들을
Those separated by wounds and misunderstandings—
다시 이어주기를 원하십니다.
He desires to unite them again.
그 일을 위해
For this purpose,
엘리야의 마음을 보내신다고 하셨습니다.
He promised to send the heart of Elijah.
엘리야의 마음은
The heart of Elijah
무너진 마음을 일으키는 마음입니다.
is a heart that lifts up the brokenhearted.
끊어진 관계를 잇는 마음입니다.
It reconnects relationships that have been torn apart.
사람을 하나님께 돌아오게 하는 마음입니다.
It leads people back to God.
신약에서
In the New Testament,
이 마음을 가장 잘 보여주신 분은
the one who displayed this heart most clearly
예수님이십니다.
is Jesus.
예수님은
Jesus
탕자의 이야기를 통해
through the parable of the prodigal son
아버지의 마음을 보여주셨습니다.
revealed the Father’s heart.
한 아들이 있었습니다.
There was a son.
아버지의 사랑을 가볍게 여겼습니다.
He took his father’s love lightly.
자기 마음대로 살고 싶었습니다.
He wanted to live his own way.
그래서 유산을 미리 받아 떠났습니다.
So he took his inheritance early and left.
그는 자유로운 것 같았습니다.
He appeared to be free.
그러나 점점 외로워졌습니다.
But he grew increasingly lonely.
모든 것을 잃었습니다.
He lost everything.
돼지 먹이를 탐낼 만큼
To the point where he longed for pig food—
삶이 무너졌습니다.
his life collapsed completely.
그가 집을 떠난 것은
His departure from home
행동의 문제가 아니었습니다.
was not merely a behavioral issue.
마음이 아버지에게서 멀어진 것입니다.
It was that his heart had drifted from his father.
아들은 결국 고백합니다.
The son eventually confessed,
“내가 아버지께로 돌아가리라.”
“I will go back to my father.”
그가 돌아오기로 결심했을 때
When he decided to return,
예수님은 아버지의 모습을 이렇게 말합니다.
Jesus described the father this way:
“아직도 거리가 먼데
“While he was still a long way off,
아버지가 그를 보고
the father saw him,
달려가 목을 안고
ran to him, threw his arms around him,
입을 맞추니…”
and kissed him…”
아버지는
The father
잘못을 따지지 않았습니다.
did not confront him with accusation.
문 앞에서 시험하지 않았습니다.
He did not test him at the door.
“왜 그랬느냐”고 묻지 않았습니다.
He did not ask, “Why did you do that?”
아버지는 먼저 달려갔습니다.
The father ran first.
그 모습은
That image
하나님이 우리에게 달려오시는 마음입니다.
reveals God’s heart running toward us.
예수님은
Jesus
말라기 4장의 약속을 설명하셨습니다.
was explaining the promise of Malachi 4.
아버지의 마음이 자녀에게 돌아가고
The heart of the father turning to the children,
자녀의 마음이 아버지에게 돌아오는 것.
and the heart of the children returning to the father—
이것이 하나님 나라의 회복입니다.
this is the restoration of God’s kingdom.
이것이 하나님을 경외하는 사람에게 일어나는 은혜입니다.
This is the grace that happens to those who fear the Lord.
예수님은
Jesus
우리를 아버지께로 돌아오게 하시는
is the one who leads us back to the Father—
유일한 길입니다.
the only way.
예수님은 말씀하셨습니다.
Jesus said,
“내가 곧 길이요
“I am the way
진리요 생명이니
and the truth and the life.
나로 말미암지 않고는
No one comes to the Father
아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라.” (요 14:6)
except through me.” (John 14:6)
또 말씀하셨습니다.
He also said,
“수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
다 내게로 오라.
and I will give you rest.
내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라.” (마 11:28)
I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
우리가 하나님께 돌아가는 것 같지만
It looks like we are returning to God,
사실은
but in truth,
하나님이 먼저 우리에게 오셨습니다.
God first came to us.
우리를 부르셨습니다.
He called us.
우리를 안아주셨습니다.
He embraced us.
그래서 우리는
And because of that,
돌아갈 수 있게 된 것입니다.
we are able to return.
탕자의 이야기에서도
Even in the prodigal son story,
아들이 돌아온 것처럼 보입니다.
it looks like the son returned.
그러나 실제로는
But in reality,
아버지가 먼저 기다리고
the father waited first,
먼저 보고
saw him first,
먼저 달려갔기 때문에
and ran first—
돌아온 것입니다.
that is why the son returned.
하나님을 경외하는 사람의 삶은
The life of one who fears the Lord
이 아버지의 마음을 닮아가는 삶입니다.
is a life that grows to resemble this Father’s heart.
정죄가 아니라
Not a heart that condemns,
달려가는 마음입니다.
but a heart that runs toward others.
품는 마음입니다.
A heart that embraces.
돌아오게 하는 마음입니다.
A heart that draws people back.
그래서 하나님을 경외하는 사람은
Thus, the one who fears the Lord
돌아오게 하는 사람입니다.
becomes a person who helps others return.
가정에서.
In the family.
교회에서.
In the church.
공동체에서.
In the community.
상처와 오해 사이에서.
In the midst of wounds and misunderstandings—
하나님은 우리에게
God gives us
엘리야의 마음을 주십니다.
the heart of Elijah.
아버지의 마음을 주십니다.
He gives us the Father’s heart.
그리고 관계가 다시 이어지게 하십니다.
And He reconnects relationships through us.
우리는
We
아버지의 마음이 필요한 시대를 살고 있습니다.
are living in a time that desperately needs the Father’s heart.
우리 주변에
Around us,
탕자처럼 마음이 멀어진 이가 있을 수 있습니다.
there may be those whose hearts have drifted far like the prodigal.
또 누군가는
And there may be someone
아버지처럼 기다리다 지쳤을 수 있습니다.
who is tired from waiting like the father.
하나님은 말씀하십니다.
God says,
“내가 너희에게
“I will send you
엘리야의 마음을 보내겠다.”
the heart of Elijah.”
“그 마음이
“And that heart
너희를 다시 잇게 하겠다.”
will reconnect you.”
관계의 회복은
The restoration of relationships
우리의 성격에서 나오지 않습니다.
does not come from our personality.
하나님의 마음이 부어질 때
It begins only when God pours His heart into us.
비로소 시작됩니다.
Only then does restoration truly begin.
오늘 말라기 4장은
Today, Malachi 4
이렇게 우리를 초대합니다.
invites us in this way:
