(9:   )이 달 이 날에 유다인들이 대적에게서 벗어나서 평안함을 얻어 슬픔이 변하여 기쁨이 되고 애통이 변하여 길한 날이 되었으니 이 두 날을 지켜 잔치를 베풀고 즐기며 서로 예물을 주며 (가난한 자를 구제하라) 하매

as the time when the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month when their sorrow was turned into joy and their mourning into a day of celebration. He wrote them to observe the days as days of feasting and joy and giving presents of food to one another and (gifts to the poor).

(9:   )(화평하고 진실한 말)로 편지를 써서 아하수에로의 나라 백이십칠 지방에 있는 유다 모든 사람에게 보내어

And Mordecai sent letters to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of Xerxes--(words of goodwill and assurance)--

(10:   )유다인 모르드개가 아하수에로 왕의 다음이 되고 유다인 중에 크게 존경받고 그의 허다한 형제에게 사랑을 받고 그의 (백성의 이익)을 도모하며 그의 모든 종족을 안위하였더라

Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for (the good of his people) and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.

(1:   )우스 땅에 욥이라 불리는 사람이 있었는데 그 사람은 온전하고 정직하여 (하나님을 경외하며) 악에서 떠난 자더라

In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he (feared God) and shunned evil.

(1:   )이르되 내가 모태에서 (알몸으로 나왔사온즉) 또한 알몸이 그리로 돌아가올지라 주신 이도 여호와시요 거두신 이도 여호와시오니 여호와의 이름이 찬송을 받으실지니이다 하고

and said: "(Naked I came) from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."

(2:   )그가 이르되 그대의 말이 한 어리석은 여자의 말 같도다 우리가 하나님께 복을 받았은즉 (화도 받지 아니하겠느냐) 하고 이 모든 일에 욥이 입술로 범죄하지 아니하니라

He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, (and not trouble)?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.

(2:   )밤낮 칠 일 동안 (그와 함께 땅에 앉았으나) 욥의 고통이 심함을 보므로 그에게 한마디도 말하는 자가 없었더라

Then they (sat on the ground with him) for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.
