보냄을 받은 사람
Matthew 마태복음 15:21-31
Korean people often ask a few questions when they first meet someone.
한국 사람들은 처음 만나면 몇 가지를 자주 묻습니다.
“Where are you from?” “What school did you go to?”
“고향이 어디세요?” “어느 학교 나오셨어요?”
After talking for a while, we often find someone we both know. “Oh, do you know that person?”
조금 이야기하다 보면 서로 아는 사람까지 찾아냅니다.“ 아, 그러면 그분 아세요?”
We ask these questions because we want to know more about the person.
이런 질문을 하는 것은 상대방을 좀 더 알고 싶기 때문입니다.
There is nothing wrong with that.
그 자체가 잘못된 것은 아닙니다.
Sometimes we see the background before we see the person.
때로 우리는 사람보다 그 사람의 배경을 먼저 봅니다.
That is what happened in today’s story.
오늘 본문에서도 그런 일이 일어납니다.
The woman who came to Jesus was a Canaanite.
예수님을 찾아온 여인은 가나안 사람이었습니다.
The disciples saw a Canaanite woman, but Jesus saw her faith.
제자들은 가나안 여인을 보았지만, 예수님은 그녀의 믿음을 보셨습니다.
They said, “Send her away.”But Jesus said, “Woman, you have great faith!”
제자들은 “그를 보내소서”라고 말했지만 예수님은 “여자여 네 믿음이 크도다”라고 말씀하셨습니다.
Today, let us see how the grace of Jesus goes beyond the boundaries we make.
오늘 말씀을 통해 우리가 만든 경계를 넘어가는 예수님의 은혜를 살펴보겠습니다.
1.God’s Choice Is a Mission,Not a Privilege(21-24)
하나님의 선택은특권이 아니라 사명입니다
Jesus went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman came to him and cried out.
예수님께서 두로와 시돈 지방으로 가셨을 때 한 가나안 여인이 찾아와 부르짖었습니다.
“Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me!
“주 다윗의 자손이여 나를 불쌍히 여기소서.
My daughter is suffering terribly.”
내 딸이 흉악하게 귀신 들렸나이다.”
But Jesus did not answer her at first.
그러나 예수님은 처음에는 아무 말씀도 하지 않으셨습니다.
Then the disciples came to him and said, “Send her away.”
그러자 제자들이 나아와 “그를 보내소서”라고 말했습니다.
To the disciples, she was an outsider.
제자들에게 그녀는 밖에 있는 사람이었습니다.
They were Israelites, but she was a Canaanite.
자신들은 이스라엘 사람들이었지만 그녀는 가나안 사람이었습니다.
They may have thought, “She is not one of us.”
그들은 “저 여자는 우리와 같은 사람이 아니다”라고 생각했을 것입니다.
Then Jesus said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” (24)
그때 예수님께서 말씀하셨습니다. “나는 이스라엘 집의 잃어버린 양 외에는 다른 데로 보내심을 받지 아니하였노라.”(24)
We need to pay attention to the words, “the lost sheep of Israel.”
우리는 여기서 “이스라엘 집의 잃어버린 양 외에는”이라는 말씀에 주목해야 합니다.
At first, it sounds as though the Canaanite woman is excluded.
처음 들으면 가나안 여인은 제외되는 것처럼 들립니다.
The disciples may even have thought that Jesus agreed with them.
제자들은 예수님께서 자신들의 생각에 동의하신다고 생각했을지도 모릅니다.
“We are Israel. She is a Canaanite. So send her away.”
“우리는 이스라엘이고 저 여자는 가나안 사람이다. 그러니 보내는 것이 맞다.”
But Jesus did not send her away.
그러나 예수님은 그 여인을 보내지 않으셨습니다.
Later, he praised her faith and healed her daughter.
오히려 나중에는 그녀의 믿음을 칭찬하시고 딸을 고쳐 주셨습니다.
This raises an important question.
여기에서 중요한 질문이 생깁니다.
Why did God choose Israel in the first place?
하나님께서는 처음부터 왜 이스라엘을 선택하셨습니까?
Did God choose Israel so that everyone else would be excluded?
하나님께서 다른 모든 민족을 제외하기 위해 이스라엘을 선택하셨습니까?
No. God’s purpose was clear from the beginning.
아닙니다. 하나님의 목적은 처음부터 분명했습니다.
God said to Abraham, “All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
하나님께서는 아브라함에게 “땅의 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 얻을 것이라”고 말씀하셨습니다.
God blessed Abraham so that Abraham could become a blessing to others.
하나님께서 아브라함에게 복을 주신 것은 그를 통하여 다른 사람들이 복을 받게 하기 위함이었습니다.
God blesses us so that we can become a blessing to others.
하나님은 우리를 통하여 다른 사람을 복되게 하시려고 우리에게 복을 주십니다.
This was also God’s purpose for Israel.
이스라엘을 선택하신 목적도 마찬가지였습니다.
Their calling was not simply a privilege; it was a mission.
그들의 부르심은 단순한 특권이 아니라 사명이었습니다.
God gave them grace so that his grace could reach others through them.
하나님께서는 그들을 통하여 다른 사람에게 은혜가 흘러가도록 먼저 그들에게 은혜를 주셨습니다.
But there is a danger.
그러나 여기에는 위험이 있습니다.
We can turn God’s mission into our privilege.
우리는 하나님께서 주신 사명을 우리의 특권으로 바꿀 수 있습니다.
“We are God’s people.” That is true.
“우리는 하나님의 백성이다.” 그것은 맞습니다.
But we may begin to think, “They are not.”
그러나 어느 순간 “저 사람들은 아니다”라고 생각할 수 있습니다.
That seems to be the danger we see in the disciples.
본문의 제자들에게서도 그런 위험을 볼 수 있습니다.
They looked at the woman and said, “Send her away.”
그들은 이 여인을 보고 “그를 보내소서”라고 말했습니다.
They knew that they had received grace, but they had forgotten why they had received it.
그들은 자신들이 은혜받았다는 것은 알았지만 왜 그 은혜를 받았는지는 잊고 있었습니다.
Grace is not something we keep. Grace is something we share.
은혜는 우리만 간직하는 것이 아니라 다른 사람과 나누는 것입니다.
Jesus did not send the woman away.
예수님은 그 여인을 보내지 않으셨습니다.
The disciples saw her background, but Jesus saw her faith.
제자들은 그녀의 배경을 보았지만 예수님은 그녀의 믿음을 보셨습니다.
The disciples wanted her to leave, but Jesus listened to her cry.
제자들은 그녀가 떠나기를 원했지만 예수님은 그녀의 부르짖음을 들으셨습니다.
We can make the same mistake.
우리도 같은 실수를 할 수 있습니다.
We can decide too quickly who belongs and who does not.
누가 우리 안에 있고 누가 밖에 있는지를 너무 쉽게 판단할 수 있습니다.
We may see no hope in someone, but Jesus may see faith in that person.
우리는 어떤 사람에게서 아무런 가능성을 보지 못하지만 예수님은 그 사람에게서 믿음을 보실 수 있습니다.
The person we push away may be the very person Jesus wants to welcome.
우리가 밀어내는 사람이 바로 예수님께서 품으려 하시는 사람일 수 있습니다.
God’s choice is not a wall that keeps people out.
하나님의 선택은 사람을 밖으로 밀어내는 담장이 아닙니다.
It is a mission to carry his grace to others.
그 은혜를 다른 사람에게 전하도록 주신 사명입니다.
We have received grace, and now we are sent with that grace.
우리는 은혜를 받았고 이제 그 은혜를 가지고 보냄을 받았습니다.
We are blessed to be a blessing.
우리는 복이 되기 위해 복을 받았습니다.
May our church become a church that welcomes people rather than pushes them away.
우리 교회가 사람을 밀어내기보다 품어 주는 교회가 되기를 바랍니다.
May the grace we have received flow through us to our families, our neighbors, and those who are different from us.
우리가 받은 은혜가 우리를 통하여 가족과 이웃과 우리와 다른 사람들에게까지 흘러가기를 바랍니다.
God has blessed us.
하나님께서 우리에게 복을 주셨습니다.
Now let us be a blessing.
이제 우리가 복이 됩시다.
I pray that we will live as people who are sent with God’s grace.
하나님의 은혜를 가지고 보냄을 받은 사람으로 살아가시기를 축원합니다.
2.The Lord Lets Those Who BelieveShare in the Grace Given to His Children(25-28)
주님을 믿는 자를 자녀의 은혜에 참여하게 하십니다
The woman did not leave.
여인은 떠나지 않았습니다.
She came closer to Jesus, knelt before him, and said, “Lord, help me!”
오히려 예수님께 가까이 나아와 절하며 “주여 저를 도우소서”라고 말했습니다.
Her prayer was very short, but it came from a desperate heart.
그녀의 기도는 아주 짧았지만 간절한 마음에서 나온 기도였습니다.
“Lord, help me.” Sometimes this is all we can say.
“주여 저를 도우소서.” 때로는 우리도 이 말 밖에 할 수 없을 때가 있습니다.
When you have no words, just say, “Lord, help me.”
아무 말도 나오지 않을 때 그저 “주님, 저를 도와주십시오”라고 기도하십시오.
Faith does not mean that we understand everything.
믿음은 모든 것을 이해하는 것이 아닙니다.
Faith means that we still come to Jesus.
이해할 수 없어도 여전히 예수님께 나아가는 것입니다.
Then Jesus said something that sounds very difficult.
그때 예수님께서 이해하기 어려운 말씀을 하셨습니다.
“It is not right to take the children’s breadand toss it to the dogs.” (26)
“자녀의 떡을 취하여 개들에게 던짐이 마땅하지 아니하니라.”(26)
The children represented Israel, who had first received God’s covenant and promises.
여기서 자녀는 하나님의 언약과 약속을 먼저 받은 이스라엘을 가리킵니다.
The woman seemed to stand outside that circle.
이 여인은 그 경계 밖에 서 있는 것처럼 보였습니다.
But she did not turn away.
그러나 여인은 돌아서지 않았습니다.
She answered Jesus with remarkable faith.
그녀는 놀라운 믿음으로 예수님께 대답했습니다.
“Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbsthat fall from their master’s table.” (27)
“주여 옳소이다마는 개들도 제 주인의 상에서 떨어지는 부스러기를 먹나이다.”(27)
She did not demand anything from Jesus.
그녀는 예수님께 무엇을 요구할 권리를 주장하지 않았습니다.
She trusted his mercy.
주님의 긍휼을 믿었습니다.
She believed that even a crumb from the Lord’s table would be enough.
그녀는 주님의 상에서 떨어지는 부스러기만으로도 충분하다고 믿었습니다.
The important thing was not the size of the crumb.
중요한 것은 부스러기의 크기가 아니었습니다.
It was whose table it came from.
누구의 상에서 나오는가가 중요했습니다.
Even a crumb of God’s grace is greater than our biggest problem.
하나님의 은혜는 작은 부스러기라도 우리의 가장 큰 문제보다 큽니다.
The woman believed that the Lord’s grace was abundant.
이 여인은 주님의 은혜가 풍성하다는 것을 믿었습니다.
There was enough grace for Israel, and there was enough grace for her.
이스라엘에게 베풀 은혜가 있었고 그녀에게 베풀 은혜도 있었습니다.
God’s grace does not become smaller when it is shared.
하나님의 은혜는 나눈다고 작아지지 않습니다.
There is enough grace at the Lord’s table.
주님의 상에는 충분한 은혜가 있습니다.
Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” (28)
그러자 예수님께서 말씀하셨습니다. “여자여 네 믿음이 크도다 네 소원대로 되리라.”(28)
This is the great reversal in the story.
여기에서 놀라운 반전이 일어납니다.
The disciples saw a Canaanite woman. Jesus saw a woman of great faith.
제자들은 가나안 여인을 보았지만 예수님은 큰 믿음을 가진 여인을 보셨습니다.
They wanted to send her away. Jesus honored her faith.
제자들은 그녀를 보내려고 했지만 예수님은 그녀의 믿음을 인정해 주셨습니다.
People may see your background. Jesus sees your faith.
사람들은 우리의 배경을 볼 수 있지만 예수님은 우리의 믿음을 보십니다.
There are times of faith that no one else can see.
우리의 삶에는 다른 사람은 알지 못하는 믿음의 시간이 있습니다.
You may keep worshiping even when life is hard.
삶이 힘들어도 예배의 자리를 지킬 수 있습니다.
You may keep praying for your family even when nothing seems to change.
아무것도 달라지지 않는 것 같아도 가족을 위해 계속 기도할 수 있습니다.
You may keep trusting God while carrying a burden that others do not know about.
다른 사람은 알지 못하는 무거운 짐을 지고도 계속 하나님을 신뢰할 수 있습니다.
Others may not see those moments, but Jesus does.
다른 사람들은 그런 시간을 보지 못할 수 있지만 예수님은 보십니다.
Jesus sees the faith that no one else sees.
예수님은 아무도 보지 못하는 우리의 믿음을 보십니다.
The woman’s prayer was not impressive.
이 여인의 기도는 대단한 말이 아니었습니다.
She simply said, “Lord, help me.”
그저 “주여 저를 도우소서”라고 말했습니다.
But Jesus saw great faith in that simple prayer.
그러나 예수님은 그 짧은 기도 속에서 큰 믿음을 보셨습니다.
Sometimes we think strong faith means never being afraid or discouraged.
때로 우리는 큰 믿음은 두려워하거나 낙심하지 않는 것이라고 생각합니다.
But this woman was desperate.
그러나 이 여인은 절박했습니다.
Her daughter was suffering, and she had nowhere else to go.
딸은 고통받고 있었고 그녀에게는 달리 갈 곳도 없었습니다.
Still, she stayed with Jesus.
그래도 그녀는 예수님을 떠나지 않았습니다.
That was her faith.
그것이 그녀의 믿음이었습니다.
Faith is not always standing strong.
믿음은 언제나 강하게 서 있는 것만이 아닙니다.
Sometimes faith is simply holding on to Jesus.
때로 믿음은 그저 예수님을 놓지 않는 것입니다.
When we are tired but still pray, that is faith.
지쳤지만 여전히 기도한다면 그것이 믿음입니다.
When we do not understand but still come to worship, that is faith.
이해되지 않아도 여전히 예배의 자리로 나온다면 그것이 믿음입니다.
When we cannot see the answer but still hold on to Jesus, that is faith.
응답이 보이지 않아도 여전히 예수님을 붙들고 있다면 그것이 믿음입니다.
Do not underestimate that faith.
그 믿음을 작게 여기지 마십시오.
Jesus does not.
예수님은 그렇게 여기지 않으십니다.
He said to this woman, “You have great faith.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
예수님은 이 여인에게 “네 믿음이 크도다”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그리고 바로 그때 그녀의 딸이 고침을 받았습니다.
The woman entered the story as someone who seemed to be outside the children’s table.
이 여인은 처음에는 자녀의 상 밖에 있는 사람처럼 등장했습니다.
But she left having received the grace that came from that table.
그러나 마지막에는 그 상에서 나오는 은혜를 받고 돌아갔습니다.
The Lord sees those who keep trusting him, and he does not overlook their faith.
주님은 끝까지 자신을 믿고 붙드는 사람을 보시며 그 믿음을 지나치지 않으십니다.
Keep holding on to Jesus.
계속 예수님을 붙드십시오.
He sees your faith.
주님은 우리의 믿음을 보고 계십니다.
May we keep holding on to Jesus even when we do not understand.
이해되지 않는 순간에도 예수님을 계속 붙들기를 바랍니다.
May we trust that the Lord sees our faith and gives us the grace we need.
주님께서 우리의 믿음을 보시고 필요한 은혜를 주심을 믿기를 바랍니다.
Keep holding on to Jesus.
계속 예수님을 붙드십시오.
His grace is enough.
주님의 은혜는 충분합니다.
I pray that we will share in the grace of God’s children through faith.
믿음으로 자녀에게 주시는 은혜에 참여하는우리 모두가 되시기를 축원합니다.
3. The Lord Makes Us Whole and Helps Us Walk Again (29-31)
주님은 우리를 온전하게 하여 다시 걷게 하십니다
Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down.
예수님께서 그곳을 떠나 갈릴리 호숫가에 이르시고 산에 올라가 앉으셨습니다.
Great crowds came to him.
큰 무리가 예수님께 나아왔습니다.
They brought people who could not walk, see, or speak, along with many others.
그들은 걷지 못하고, 보지 못하고, 말하지 못하는 사람들과 많은 병자들을 데리고 왔습니다.
They placed them at Jesus’ feet, and he healed them.
그들은 그들을 예수님의 발 앞에 두었고 예수님께서는 그들을 고쳐 주셨습니다.
They could not heal them, but they could bring them to Jesus.
그들이 병자를 고칠 수는 없었지만 예수님께 데리고 올 수는 있었습니다.
We cannot fix everyone, but we can bring them to Jesus.
우리가 모든 사람의 문제를 해결할 수는 없지만 그들을 예수님께 데리고 올 수는 있습니다.
There are people in our lives whom we cannot change or heal.
우리의 삶에도 우리가 변화시키거나 고쳐 줄 수 없는 사람들이 있습니다.
Sometimes we do not even know what to say to them.
때로는 그들에게 무슨 말을 해야 할지도 모릅니다.
But we can pray for them.
그러나 우리는 그들을 위해 기도할 수 있습니다.
We can bring their names and their pain before the Lord.
그들의 이름과 아픔을 주님 앞에 가지고 나올 수 있습니다.
We can place them at the feet of Jesus.
우리는 그들을 예수님의 발 앞에 내려놓을 수 있습니다.
“The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing.” (31)
“말 못하는 사람이 말하고 장애인이 온전하게 되고 다리 저는 사람이 걸으며 맹인이 보는 것을 무리가 보고 놀랍게 여겨.”(31)
Those who could not speak began to speak. Those who could not walk began to walk. Those who could not see began to see.
말하지 못하던 사람이 말하고, 걷지 못하던 사람이 걷고, 보지 못하던 사람이 보게 되었습니다.
Jesus did more than remove their sickness. He gave them their lives back.
예수님은 단지 질병을 없애 주신 것이 아닙니다. 그들에게 다시 삶을 돌려주셨습니다.
Jesus heals us so that we can live again.
예수님은 우리가 다시 살아가도록 우리를 고치십니다.
Healing is not only about what is taken away.
치유는 무엇이 없어지는 것만을 의미하지 않습니다.
It is also about what is restored.
잃어버린 것이 회복되는 것이기도 합니다.
Jesus restored their sight, their speech, and their steps.
예수님은 그들의 시력과 말과 걸음을 회복시켜 주셨습니다.
The Lord still restores people today.
주님은 오늘도 사람을 회복시키십니다.
Some wounds make it hard for us to see anything good.
어떤 상처는 우리로 좋은 것을 보지 못하게 합니다.
Some pain makes it difficult to speak what is in our hearts.
어떤 아픔은 마음에 있는 말을 하지 못하게 합니다.
Sometimes disappointment leaves us with little strength to move forward.
때로는 실망 때문에 앞으로 나아갈 힘을 잃기도 합니다.
Jesus meets us in those places.
예수님은 바로 그런 자리에서 우리를 만나십니다.
He helps us see again, speak again, and take another step.
주님은 우리를 다시 보게 하고, 다시 말하게 하고, 다시 한 걸음 내딛게 하십니다.
Healing sometimes begins with one small step.
치유는 때로 작은 한 걸음에서 시작됩니다.
Maybe everything has not been resolved yet.
아직 모든 문제가 해결되지 않았을 수 있습니다.
But you can take one step today.
그러나 오늘 한 걸음을 내디딜 수 있습니다.
You can pray again.
다시 기도할 수 있습니다.
You can trust again.
다시 믿을 수 있습니다.
You can open your heart again.
다시 마음을 열 수 있습니다.
You can love again.
다시 사랑할 수 있습니다.
You can begin again.
다시 시작할 수 있습니다.
With Jesus, we can begin again.
예수님과 함께라면 우리는 다시 시작할 수 있습니다.
When the crowd saw these people healed, “they praised the God of Israel.” (31)
무리는 이 사람들이 고침받는 것을 보고 “이스라엘의 하나님께 영광을 돌렸습니다.”(31)
One person’s healing became another person’s reason to praise God.
한 사람의 치유가 다른 사람에게 하나님을 찬양하는 이유가 되었습니다.
One person began to walk, and others saw the power of God.
한 사람이 다시 걷기 시작하자 다른 사람들이 하나님의 능력을 보았습니다.
One person was restored, and others gave glory to God.
한 사람이 회복되자 다른 사람들이 하나님께 영광을 돌렸습니다.
Our healing is not only for ourselves.
우리의 치유는 우리 자신만을 위한 것이 아닙니다.
God can use our restored lives to give hope to others.
하나님께서는 회복된 우리의 삶을 통하여 다른 사람에게 소망을 주실 수 있습니다.
Your healing can become someone else’s hope.
우리의 회복이 다른 사람의 소망이 될 수 있습니다.
So do not give up because you are not completely healed yet.
그러므로 아직 완전히 회복되지 않았다고 포기하지 마십시오.
Let Jesus help you take the next step.
예수님께서 다음 한 걸음을 걷게 하시도록 맡기십시오.
When the Lord helps you stand again, use your restored life to encourage someone else.
주님께서 우리를 다시 일으켜 세우실 때 그 회복된 삶으로 다른 사람을 격려하십시오.
May we see again, speak again, and walk again by the grace of Jesus.
예수님의 은혜로 다시 보고, 다시 말하고, 다시 걸어가기를 바랍니다.
May our restored lives help others see the goodness of God.
회복된 우리의 삶을 통하여 다른 사람들도 하나님의 선하심을 보게 되기를 바랍니다.
Jesus is not finished with us. Let us walk with him again.
예수님은 아직 우리를 포기하지 않으셨습니다.다시 주님과 함께 걸어갑시다.
I pray that we will be restored by the Lordand become people who bring hope to others.
주님으로 인해 회복되고 또 다른 사람에게 소망을 전하는 사람들이 되시기를 축원합니다.
Let me summarize today’s message.
말씀을 정리하겠습니다.
The disciples wanted to send the Canaanite woman away, but Jesus welcomed her.
제자들은 가나안 여인을 보내려고 했지만 예수님은 그녀를 품으셨습니다.
They saw her background, but Jesus saw her faith.
제자들은 그녀의 배경을 보았지만 예수님은 그녀의 믿음을 보셨습니다.
Jesus heard her cry and healed her daughter.
예수님은 그녀의 부르짖음을 들으시고 딸을 고쳐 주셨습니다.
Then many more people came to Jesus, and he healed them too.
그리고 더 많은 사람들이 예수님께 나아왔고 주님은 그들도 고쳐 주셨습니다.
They began to see, speak, and walk again. This is the grace we have received.
그들은 다시 보고, 말하고, 걷기 시작했습니다. 이것이 우리가 받은 은혜입니다.
And this grace must not stop with us.
그리고 이 은혜는 우리에게서 멈추어서는 안 됩니다.
We receive grace, and we carry grace to others.
우리는 은혜를 받고 그 은혜를 다른 사람에게 전합니다.
We have been blessed to become a blessing.
우리는 복이 되기 위해 복을 받았습니다.
We have been healed to bring hope to others.
우리는 다른 사람에게 소망을 전하도록 치유받았습니다.
And we have been called to be sent.
그리고 우리는 보냄을 받도록 부름받았습니다.
We are not only saved people. We are sent people.
우리는 구원받은 사람일 뿐 아니라 보냄을 받은 사람입니다.
May we go with the grace we have receivedand become a blessing wherever God sends us.
우리가 받은 은혜를 가지고 하나님께서 보내시는 곳에서 복이 되기를 바랍니다.
May others see the love of Jesus through our lives.
우리의 삶을 통하여 다른 사람들이 예수님의 사랑을 보게 되기를 바랍니다.
I pray that we will live as people who are sent by the Lord.
주님께 보냄을 받은 사람으로 살아가시기를 축원합니다.

Father, thank You for calling us and giving us Your grace.
아버지, 우리를 부르시고 은혜를 베풀어 주셔서 감사합니다.
Keep us from building walls around the grace we have received.
우리가 받은 은혜로 다른 사람과 담을 쌓지 않게 하소서.
Help us welcome those whom others may push away.
사람들이 밀어내는 사람을 품게 하소서.
