This Is How He Saves
로마서 10:8-17 (Romans 10:8-17)
A man was walking along a road and lost his way.
어떤 사람이 길을 가다가 길을 잃었습니다.
After wandering for a while, he asked a passerby.
한참을 헤매다가 지나가는 사람에게 물었습니다.
"Excuse me. Can I get to Seoul by this road?"
"실례합니다. 이 길로 가면 서울에 갈 수 있습니까?"
The passerby replied, "You can get there—but the other way is much faster!"
그 사람이 대답했습니다. "갈 수는 있습니다. 그런데 반대쪽으로 가면 훨씬 빨리 갑니다!"
Walking hard matters on a journey, but which direction you go matters even more.
길을 가는 데는 열심히 걷는 것도 중요하지만, 어느 방향으로 가느냐가 더 중요합니다.
But there is actually an even more important question hidden in this story.
그런데 사실 이 이야기에는 더 중요한 질문이 하나 숨어 있습니다.
Why was that man trying to go to Seoul?
그 사람은 왜 서울에 가려고 했을까요?
Was it simply because it was a "good place," or because someone was waiting for him there?
단지 "좋은 곳"이라서였을까요, 아니면 그곳에 그를 기다리는 누군가가 있어서였을까요?
Our salvation is the same.
우리의 구원도 그렇습니다.
We often think of salvation as "going to a good place when we die."
우리는 종종 구원을 "죽어서 좋은 곳에 가는 것"으로 생각합니다.
So we assume we must do many good deeds, sin less, and become better than others to earn the right to enter that good place.
그래서 착한 일을 많이 하고, 죄를 덜 짓고, 남보다 나은 사람이 되어야 그 좋은 곳에 들어갈 자격을 얻는다고 여깁니다.
But the salvation the Bible speaks of is centered not on a place but on a relationship.
그러나 성경이 말하는 구원의 중심은 장소가 아니라 관계입니다.
It is God becoming our Father, and we becoming His children.
하나님이 우리의 아버지가 되시고, 우리가 하나님의 자녀가 되는 것입니다.
In Romans 10, Paul distinguishes the way people try to reach something by building their own righteousness from the way God has opened through Christ.
로마서 10장에서 바울은 사람이 자기 의를 쌓아 무언가에 도달하려는 길과, 하나님께서 그리스도를 통해 열어 놓으신 길을 구별합니다.
What lies at the end of that road is not a place, but the Father who waits for us.
그 길의 끝에 있는 것은 어떤 장소가 아니라, 우리를 기다리시는 아버지입니다.
Today's passage shows in three ways how God calls us into that relationship.
오늘 본문은 하나님께서 우리를 어떻게 그 관계로 부르시는지 세 가지로 보여 줍니다.
1. God Saves by Making Us Believe and Confess the Word That Has Come Near(8-10)
하나님은 가까이 온 말씀을 믿고 고백하게 하심으로 구원하십니다
"The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart."
"말씀이 네게 가까워 네 입에 있으며 네 마음에 있다."
Paul explains that this word is the very 'word of faith' he proclaims (8).
바울은 이 말씀이 바로 자신이 전하는 '믿음의 말씀'이라고 설명합니다(8).
Salvation is not something we obtain by climbing up to heaven to find God, or by accomplishing something great enough to earn His approval.
구원은 우리가 하나님을 찾아 하늘까지 올라가거나, 하나님께 인정받을 만한 대단한 일을 이루어 얻는 것이 아닙니다.
God first brought the word of salvation near to us.
하나님께서 먼저 구원의 말씀을 우리 가까이에 가져오셨습니다.
While we did not yet know God, He let us hear the gospel and drew near to us so we could believe in Jesus Christ.
우리가 아직 하나님을 알지 못할 때 복음을 들려주시고, 예수 그리스도를 믿을 수 있도록 우리에게 다가오셨습니다.
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (9).
입으로 예수님을 주님이라고 고백하고, 하나님께서 그분을 죽은 자 가운데서 살리셨다는 것을 마음으로 믿으면 구원을 받는다는 것입니다(9).
It is accepting that the cross and resurrection of Jesus are God's salvation for me, and entrusting myself to Him.
예수님의 십자가와 부활이 바로 나를 위한 하나님의 구원이라는 사실을 받아들이고, 나 자신을 그분께 맡기는 것입니다.
This confession receives Jesus as my Lord and entrusts the direction of my life to Him.
이 고백은 예수님을 나의 주님으로 받아들이고 삶의 방향을 그분께 맡기는 것입니다.
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved (10).
사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고, 입으로 고백하여 구원에 이르게 됩니다(10).
One who truly believes in his heart comes to confess Jesus as Lord, and a true confession with the mouth flows out of faith in the heart.
마음으로 진실하게 믿는 사람은 예수님을 주님이라고 고백하게 되고, 입으로 하는 참된 고백은 마음의 믿음에서 나옵니다.
'Being justified' does not mean earning enough merit through good deeds to score approval from God.
'의에 이른다'는 말은 우리가 선행과 공로를 쌓아 하나님께 인정받을 만한 점수를 얻는다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
It means a sinner is counted righteous before God through faith in Jesus Christ.
죄인이 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 하나님 앞에서 의롭다고 인정받는다는 뜻입니다.
The relationship with God broken by sin is restored through Christ, and we receive a new status of being accepted by God.
죄로 인해 깨어졌던 하나님과의 관계가 그리스도로 말미암아 회복되고, 하나님께 받아들여지는 새로운 신분을 얻게 되는 것입니다.
Restored relationship with God involves trusting Him and honestly confessing our need.
하나님과의 관계 회복에는 그분을 신뢰하고 우리의 부족함을 정직하게 고백하는 일이 필요합니다.
We acknowledge our sin and lack, while at the same time confessing that Jesus Christ is my Lord.
우리는 자신의 죄와 부족함을 인정하면서, 동시에 예수 그리스도께서 나의 주님이심을 고백합니다.
The story of the jailer in Philippi shows well how the word of salvation draws near to a person.
빌립보 감옥의 간수 이야기는 구원의 말씀이 한 사람에게 어떻게 가까이 찾아오는지를 잘 보여 줍니다.
Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into prison for preaching the gospel.
바울과 실라는 복음을 전하다가 매를 맞고 감옥에 갇혔습니다.
At midnight, though wounded and bound, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns. Then an earthquake opened the prison doors.
한밤중에 상처 입고 묶인 바울과 실라가 기도하고 찬송하자 지진이 일어나 감옥 문이 열렸습니다.
Thinking the prisoners had escaped, the jailer was about to take his life, but Paul cried, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here."
죄수들이 도망친 줄 안 간수가 목숨을 끊으려 하자 바울은 "네 몸을 상하게 하지 말라. 우리가 다 여기 있다"고 외쳤습니다.
Paul used freedom not to escape but to save the man who had guarded him. Trembling, the jailer asked, "What must I do to be saved?"
바울은 자유를 도망칠 기회가 아니라 자신을 지키던 사람의 생명을 살리는 데 사용했습니다. 간수는 떨며 "내가 어떻게 하여야 구원을 받으리이까?"라고 물었습니다.
Paul and Silas did not demand that the jailer do anything great.
바울과 실라는 간수에게 대단한 일을 하라고 요구하지 않았습니다.
"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
"주 예수를 믿으라. 그리하면 너와 네 집이 구원을 받으리라."
And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
그리고 간수와 그의 가족에게 주님의 말씀을 전해 주었습니다.
God brought the word of salvation near to them through Paul and Silas.
하나님께서 바울과 실라를 통해 구원의 말씀을 그들의 가까이에 가져오신 것입니다.
The jailer and his family heard that word and believed in God.
간수와 그의 가족은 그 말씀을 듣고 하나님을 믿었습니다.
And they were baptized, openly declaring their faith.
그리고 세례를 받아 자신의 믿음을 공개적으로 나타냈습니다.
That faith was also revealed in how he treated people.
그 믿음은 사람을 대하는 태도에서도 드러났습니다.
The jailer washed the wounds of Paul and Silas, brought them into his house, and set a meal before them.
간수는 바울과 실라의 상처를 씻어 주고, 그들을 자기 집으로 데려가 음식을 대접했습니다.
The former guard now tended their wounds and shared his table with them; restored relationship with God changed his relationships with people.
죄수를 지키던 간수는 이제 그들의 상처를 돌보고 한 식탁에 앉았습니다. 하나님과의 관계 회복이 사람과의 관계도 바꾸었습니다.
This is what it looks like when God saves a person.
이것이 하나님께서 사람을 구원하시는 모습입니다.
God brings the word of salvation near to a person who has fallen into despair.
하나님은 절망에 빠진 사람에게 구원의 말씀을 가까이 가져오십니다.
And that faith is revealed outwardly through baptism and a changed life.
그리고 그 믿음은 세례와 삶의 변화를 통해 밖으로 드러납니다.
A good life is not the condition of salvation but its fruit: the jailer tended their wounds because he had come to believe.
선한 삶은 구원의 조건이 아니라 열매입니다. 간수는 구원받기 위해서가 아니라 믿게 되었기에 그들의 상처를 돌보았습니다.
Failures, wounds, guilt, and fear may tell us that even God will not accept us. Yet the gospel is nearer than those voices.
실패와 상처, 죄책감과 두려움은 하나님도 우리를 받아 주지 않으실 것이라고 말합니다. 그러나 복음은 그 음성보다 더 가까이 있습니다.
When guilt condemns you, hold to the gospel and confess, "Jesus Christ is my Lord, and I belong to Him."
죄책감이 정죄할 때 복음을 붙들고 "예수 그리스도께서 나의 주님이시며, 나는 그분께 속했습니다"라고 고백하십시오.
The basis on which God accepts us is not our success or our perfection.
하나님께서 우리를 받아 주시는 근거는 우리의 성공이나 완벽함이 아닙니다.
It is Jesus Christ, who died and rose again.
죽으시고 다시 살아나신 예수 그리스도입니다.
God saves us by bringing the word of salvation near to us and causing us to believe it in our hearts and confess it with our mouths.
하나님은 구원의 말씀을 우리 가까이에 가져오시고, 그 말씀을 마음으로 믿고 입으로 고백하게 하심으로 우리를 구원하십니다.
Therefore, may you believe in your hearts the word of salvation that has come near, boldly confess Jesus Christ as your Lord, and live in a restored relationship with God.
그러므로 우리 가까이에 온 구원의 말씀을 마음으로 믿고, 예수 그리스도를 나의 주님으로 담대히 고백하며, 하나님과의 회복된 관계 안에서 살아가시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.
2. God Saves Without Discrimination Everyone Who Calls on the Name of the Lord (11-13)
하나님은 주님의 이름을 부르는 사람을 차별 없이 구원하십니다
Scripture promises, "Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame" (11).
성경은 "누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라"고 약속합니다(11).
Here, 'not being put to shame' does not mean that a believer in Jesus will never fail or face hardship in life.
여기서 '부끄러움을 당하지 않는다'는 것은 예수님을 믿는 사람은 살면서 한 번도 실패하거나 어려움을 겪지 않는다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
It means that in the end, that faith will not prove to have been in vain.
마지막에 그 믿음이 헛된 것으로 드러나지 않는다는 뜻입니다.
It is the promise that God will not turn away from anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and entrusts himself to Him, and will never let him be disappointed in the end.
예수 그리스도를 믿고 자신을 맡긴 사람을 하나님께서 외면하지 않으시며, 끝내 실망하게 하지 않으신다는 약속입니다.
Past disappointment can make trust difficult, even in our relationship with God. But Scripture promises that everyone who trusts in Christ will not be put to shame.
과거의 실망과 거절은 하나님을 신뢰하는 일까지 어렵게 만들 수 있습니다. 그러나 말씀은 그리스도를 믿는 누구든지 부끄러움을 당하지 않는다고 약속합니다.
God receives those who come to Him not according to their past or condition, but through faith in Jesus Christ.
하나님은 과거나 조건이 아니라 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로 나아오는 사람을 받아 주십니다.
In that salvation there is no distinction between Jew and Greek.
그 구원에는 유대인과 헬라인의 차별이 없습니다.
For the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on everyone who calls on Him (12).
한 분이신 주님께서 모든 사람의 주님이 되시며, 주님을 부르는 모든 사람에게 풍성한 은혜를 베푸시기 때문입니다(12).
At that time there was a great, solid boundary between Jews and Greeks.
당시 유대인과 헬라인 사이에는 크고 견고한 경계가 있었습니다.
The Jews took pride in being the nation that had received God's law and covenant, while the Greeks and other Gentiles were considered people far removed from God's promises.
유대인에게는 하나님의 율법과 언약을 받은 민족이라는 자부심이 있었고, 헬라인을 비롯한 이방인들은 하나님의 약속에서 멀리 떨어진 사람들로 여겨졌습니다.
Their culture, language, food, and way of life were all different.
문화와 언어, 음식과 생활방식도 달랐습니다.
It was not even easy for them to associate closely or eat together.
서로 가까이하거나 함께 식사하는 것조차 쉽지 않았습니다.
But God tells us that boundary cannot determine one's qualification for salvation.
그러나 하나님은 그 경계가 구원의 자격을 결정하지 못한다고 말씀하십니다.
A Jew is not automatically saved simply for being a Jew, and a Gentile is not excluded from salvation simply for being a Gentile.
유대인은 유대인이라는 이유로 자동으로 구원받는 것이 아니고, 이방인은 이방인이라는 이유로 구원에서 제외되지 않습니다.
The Lord is one for all people, and everyone is saved by hearing the same gospel and believing in the same Lord.
모든 사람에게 주님은 한 분이시며, 모든 사람은 같은 복음을 듣고 같은 주님을 믿어 구원받습니다.
That God does not discriminate does not mean there are no differences among people.
하나님께서 차별하지 않으신다는 것은 사람들 사이에 아무런 차이가 없다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
Each person's background and circumstances differ, and so do the paths they have walked and the wounds they carry.
사람마다 출신과 형편이 다르고, 살아온 과정과 받은 상처도 다릅니다.
But those differences do not become the standard that separates those who can come to God from those who cannot.
그러나 그 차이가 하나님께 나아갈 수 있는 사람과 나아갈 수 없는 사람을 구분하는 기준이 되지는 않습니다.
Having more does not let you get closer, and having learned less does not mean you must stand farther away.
가진 것이 많다고 더 가까이 갈 수 있는 것도 아니고, 배운 것이 적다고 멀리 서야 하는 것도 아닙니다.
Having a longer faith journey does not earn higher standing, and having just heard the gospel does not mean you must stay in the back.
신앙생활을 오래 했다고 더 높은 자격을 얻는 것도 아니고, 이제 막 복음을 들었다고 뒤에 머물러야 하는 것도 아닙니다.
Before God, no one has grounds to boast of their condition, and no one needs to give up because of their lack.
하나님 앞에서는 자신의 조건을 자랑할 사람도 없고, 자신의 부족함 때문에 포기해야 할 사람도 없습니다.
With God, forgiveness is never lacking, grace is never insufficient, and love never runs dry.
하나님에게는 용서가 부족하지 않고, 은혜가 모자라지 않으며, 사랑이 고갈되지 않습니다.
The Lord richly grants the grace needed for salvation to everyone who calls on Him.
주님은 자신을 부르는 모든 사람에게 구원에 필요한 은혜를 풍성하게 베푸십니다.
The story of Cornelius in Acts shows well that God saves people without discrimination.
사도행전에 나오는 고넬료의 이야기는 하나님께서 사람을 차별하지 않고 구원하신다는 사실을 잘 보여 줍니다.
Cornelius was a centurion of the Roman army and a Gentile.
고넬료는 로마 군대의 백부장이며 이방인이었습니다.
He feared God, helped those in need, and prayed, but he did not yet clearly know the gospel of Jesus Christ.
그는 하나님을 경외하고 어려운 사람들을 돕고 기도하는 사람이었지만, 아직 예수 그리스도의 복음을 분명하게 알지 못했습니다.
God spoke to Cornelius in a vision, telling him to send for Peter.
하나님은 환상 가운데 고넬료에게 베드로를 초청하라고 말씀하셨습니다.
But Cornelius was not the only one who needed preparation.
그런데 고넬료만 준비가 필요했던 것은 아닙니다.
Peter, who was to preach the gospel, also needed to change.
복음을 전해야 할 베드로에게도 변화가 필요했습니다.
For Peter, a Jew, entering a Gentile's house and eating together was a very burdensome thing, because he too had a boundary long formed in his heart.
유대인이었던 베드로에게 이방인의 집에 들어가 함께 식사하는 것은 매우 부담스러운 일이었습니다. 그의 마음에도 오랫동안 형성된 경계가 있었기 때문입니다.
God showed Peter a vision and taught him not to call unclean what God has made clean.
하나님은 베드로에게 환상을 보여 주시며 하나님께서 깨끗하게 하신 것을 속되다고 하지 말라고 가르쳐 주셨습니다.
Just then, the men Cornelius had sent came looking for Peter, and Peter finally went with them to Cornelius's house.
그때 고넬료가 보낸 사람들이 베드로를 찾아왔고, 베드로는 마침내 그들과 함께 고넬료의 집으로 갔습니다.
When Peter arrived, he found that Cornelius had gathered his family and close friends, ready to hear the word.
베드로가 도착해 보니 고넬료는 가족과 가까운 친구들을 불러 놓고 말씀을 들을 준비를 하고 있었습니다.
Seeing this, Peter confessed that he realized God does not judge people by outward appearance, but accepts anyone from any nation who fears Him and comes to Him.
그 모습을 본 베드로는 하나님께서 사람을 외모로 판단하지 않으시고, 어느 민족에서든 하나님을 경외하며 그분께 나아오는 사람을 받아 주신다는 사실을 깨달았다고 고백했습니다.
Peter preached Jesus Christ to them.
베드로는 그들에게 예수 그리스도를 전했습니다.
He declared that Jesus is Lord of all, that though He died on the cross God raised Him again, and that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.
예수님께서 모든 사람의 주님이시며, 십자가에서 죽으셨지만 하나님께서 다시 살리셨고, 그분을 믿는 사람은 누구나 죄 사함을 받는다고 선포했습니다.
While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.
베드로가 말씀을 전하고 있을 때 성령께서 말씀을 듣는 모든 사람에게 임하셨습니다.
The Jewish believers who had come with Peter were astonished.
베드로와 함께 온 유대인 신자들은 놀랐습니다.
For the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles with backgrounds entirely different from their own.
자신들과 전혀 다른 배경을 가진 이방인들에게도 성령의 선물이 부어졌기 때문입니다.
God did not require Cornelius and his family to first live like Jews before accepting them, nor did He give the Spirit only after they had adopted Jewish culture and customs.
하나님은 고넬료와 그의 가족을 받아 주시기 전에 먼저 유대인처럼 살라고 요구하지 않으셨습니다. 그들이 유대인의 문화와 관습을 갖춘 뒤에야 성령을 주신 것도 아닙니다.
The moment they heard and believed the gospel of Jesus Christ, God Himself received them.
그들이 예수 그리스도의 복음을 듣고 믿을 때 하나님께서 친히 그들을 받아 주셨습니다.
People called Cornelius a Gentile, but God did not exclude him from salvation.
사람들은 고넬료를 이방인이라고 불렀지만, 하나님은 그를 구원에서 제외하지 않으셨습니다.
God's grace was greater than the boundaries people had set up.
사람들이 세워 놓은 경계보다 하나님의 은혜가 더 컸습니다.
God made Peter the Jew and Cornelius the Gentile into one community believing in the one Lord Jesus Christ.
하나님은 유대인인 베드로와 이방인인 고넬료가 한 분이신 예수 그리스도를 믿는 한 공동체가 되게 하셨습니다.
Some people live for a long time weighed down by an invisible ranking chart others have made.
어떤 사람은 오랫동안 다른 사람이 만들어 놓은 보이지 않는 등급표에 눌려 살아갑니다.
You may have grown up hearing, "Why can't you do better than this?"
"너는 왜 이것밖에 못하니?"라는 말을 들으며 자랐을 수 있습니다.
You may have been compared to others because of poverty, education, occupation, or appearance.
가난이나 학력, 직업이나 외모 때문에 비교당했을 수도 있습니다.
Even within the church, you may have felt inadequate because of your years of faith, Bible knowledge, or amount of service.
교회 안에서도 신앙의 연수나 성경 지식, 봉사의 양으로 자신이 부족한 사람이라고 느꼈을 수 있습니다.
When such experiences accumulate, we end up comparing ourselves with others even before God.
그런 경험이 쌓이면 하나님 앞에서도 자신을 다른 사람과 비교하게 됩니다.
But God does not save us by looking at our ranking chart.
그러나 하나님은 우리의 등급표를 보고 구원하지 않으십니다.
Origin and background, success and failure, do not determine one's qualification for salvation.
출신과 배경, 성공과 실패가 구원의 자격을 결정하지 못합니다.
Whoever believes in Jesus Christ and calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
예수 그리스도를 믿고 주님의 이름을 부르는 사람은 누구든지 구원을 받습니다.
At the same time, we also need healing in the opposite direction.
동시에 우리에게는 반대 방향의 치유도 필요합니다.
We may be people wounded by others' evaluations, while at the same time being people who evaluate and draw lines against others.
우리는 다른 사람에게 평가받아 상처 입은 사람이면서, 동시에 다른 사람을 평가하고 선을 긋는 사람일 수 있습니다.
Looking at people whose faith looks different from ours or whose life circumstances differ, we rank them in our hearts.
나와 신앙의 모습이 다르거나 삶의 형편이 다른 사람을 보면서 마음속으로 등급을 매깁니다.
We decide that some people will easily be accepted by God, while others will find it hard to be accepted.
어떤 사람은 하나님께 쉽게 받아들여질 것 같고, 어떤 사람은 받아들여지기 어려울 것이라고 판단합니다.
But the One I call Lord is the Lord of all people.
그러나 내가 주님이라고 부르는 그분은 모든 사람의 주님이십니다.
The grace I rely on is not grace given to me alone.
내가 의지하는 그 은혜는 나에게만 주어진 은혜가 아닙니다.
Even someone I find hard to accept will be saved by the same grace if they call on the name of the Lord.
내가 받아들이기 어려워하는 사람도 주님의 이름을 부르면 같은 은혜로 구원받습니다.
We must not set up boundaries that God has not set up.
하나님께서 세우지 않으신 경계를 우리가 세워서는 안 됩니다.
The word declares, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (13).
말씀은 "누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 받으리라"고 선언합니다(13).
Calling on the name of the Lord means believing who Jesus is, acknowledging Him as my Lord, and seeking help by relying on His grace and authority.
주님의 이름을 부른다는 것은 예수님이 누구신지를 믿고, 그분을 나의 주님으로 인정하며, 그분의 은혜와 권세를 의지하여 도움을 구하는 것입니다.
One who calls on the name of the Lord acknowledges that he cannot save himself by his own strength alone.
주의 이름을 부르는 사람은 자신의 힘만으로 자신을 구원할 수 없다는 사실을 인정합니다.
He relies not on merit or good deeds he has accumulated, but on the cross and resurrection of Jesus.
자신이 쌓은 공로나 선행이 아니라 예수님의 십자가와 부활을 의지합니다.
Therefore, calling on the name of the Lord is what faith looks like when expressed through the lips.
그러므로 주님의 이름을 부르는 것은 믿음이 입술을 통해 나타나는 모습입니다.
Because we believe Jesus can save, we call on Him. The prayer need not be long: "Lord Jesus, have mercy on me. I believe and rely on You."
예수님이 구원하실 수 있음을 믿기에 그분을 부릅니다. 기도는 길지 않아도 됩니다. "주 예수님, 저를 불쌍히 여겨 주십시오. 주님을 믿고 의지합니다."
God does not save us based on which nation we belong to, how much we possess, or how long we have lived out our faith.

Whoever believes in Jesus Christ and calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
예수 그리스도를 믿고 주님의 이름을 부르는 사람은 누구든지 구원을 받습니다.
Therefore, may you call on the Lord without hesitation, trust in his abundant grace that shows no partiality, and enjoy the joy of salvation.
그러므로 주저하지 말고 주님의 이름을 부르며, 차별 없이 베푸시는 풍성한 은혜를 믿고 구원의 기쁨을 누리시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.
3. God Saves by Causing Us to Hear and Believe the Word of Christ (14-17)
하나님은 그리스도의 말씀을 듣고 믿게 하심으로 구원하십니다
Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
주의 이름을 부르는 사람은 누구든지 구원을 받습니다.
Then how do people come to call on the name of the Lord they did not previously know?
그렇다면 사람들은 어떻게 자신이 알지 못하던 주님의 이름을 부르게 될까요?
Paul traces that process backward through a series of questions.
바울은 여러 질문을 통해 그 과정을 거꾸로 짚어 갑니다.
How can they call on Him in whom they have not believed?
믿지 않는 분을 어떻게 부를 수 있겠습니까?
How can they believe in Him of whom they have never heard?
들어 보지 못한 분을 어떻게 믿을 수 있겠습니까?
How can they hear without someone preaching?
전하는 사람이 없는데 어떻게 들을 수 있겠습니까?
And how can they preach unless they are sent? (14-15)
보내심을 받지 않았다면 어떻게 전할 수 있겠습니까?(14-15)
In the order salvation unfolds, God sends a person, that person preaches, someone hears and believes, and the believer calls on the Lord and is saved.
구원이 일어나는 순서로 보면 하나님께서 사람을 보내시고, 그가 복음을 전하며, 누군가 듣고 믿어 주님의 이름을 부르고 구원받습니다.
Salvation begins not with our discovering God by effort, but with God first sending someone to bring us the word of Christ.
구원은 우리의 노력으로 하나님을 발견하는 데서가 아니라, 하나님께서 먼저 사람을 보내 그리스도의 말씀을 들려주시는 데서 시작됩니다.
Before we believed, a parent, friend, teacher, or perhaps an unnamed evangelist first told us of Jesus.

That is why Scripture says, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (15).

Their feet are beautiful because they carry life, hope, and forgiveness to others.
그 발이 아름다운 것은 생명과 소망, 용서의 소식을 다른 이에게 전하기 때문입니다.
The story of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts shows this process well.
사도행전에 나오는 에디오피아 내시의 이야기는 이 과정을 잘 보여 줍니다.
He was a high official in charge of the treasury of the Ethiopian queen.
그는 에디오피아 여왕의 재정을 관리하는 높은 관리였습니다.
Returning from Jerusalem, the Ethiopian official read Isaiah but did not understand whom it described. God sent Philip to his chariot.
예루살렘에서 돌아가던 에디오피아 관리는 이사야서를 읽었지만 누구를 가리키는지 알지 못했습니다. 하나님은 그의 병거로 빌립을 보내셨습니다.
When Philip asked whether he understood, the man replied, "How can I, unless someone guides me?"

Beginning with that passage, Philip preached Jesus. The man heard, believed, was baptized, and went on his way rejoicing.

God still sends one person so another may hear the word of salvation.
하나님은 오늘도 한 사람을 보내 다른 사람이 구원의 말씀을 듣게 하십니다.
That does not mean everyone who hears the gospel believes.
그렇다고 복음을 듣는 사람이 모두 믿는 것은 아닙니다.
Paul says not everyone obeyed the gospel, quoting Isaiah's lament.
바울은 사람들이 모두 복음에 순종한 것은 아니라고 말하면서 이사야의 탄식을 인용합니다.
"Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" (16)
"주여, 우리가 전한 것을 누가 믿었습니까?"(16)
Hearing sound and receiving the word in the heart are not the same. Faith is obedience to the gospel, not mere acknowledgment of information.
소리를 듣는 것과 말씀을 마음에 받아들이는 것은 다릅니다. 믿음은 정보를 인정하는 데 그치지 않고 복음에 순종하는 것입니다.
To believe that Jesus is Lord is to entrust our direction to Him; to believe He died and rose for sinners is to rely on His grace rather than our merit.

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (17).

What matters is not how much we hear, but what we hear. Faith arises through the word of Christ—the gospel of who He is and what He has done.

When emotions and resolve waver, we need to hear that gospel again. Wounded hearts need Christ's word, which is truer than human judgment.

When weakness says, "You can do nothing," hear the Lord: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Salvation is not something we reach by piling up good deeds and merit before God.

He does not discriminate among people, and He saves everyone who calls on the name of the Lord.

He sends people to preach the gospel, and saves by causing us to hear and believe the word of Christ.

Do not hesitate because of your lack or wait until you become better. Hear the gospel near you, believe in Jesus Christ, and confess, "Jesus is my Lord."
