예수님의 제자로 살아가기
Matthew 마태복음 10:24-42
Believing in Jesus is not simply attending church or learning religious knowledge.
예수님을 믿는다는 것은 단순히 교회를 다니거나 신앙 지식을 배우는 것이 아닙니다.
Jesus not only saves us but also calls us to be His disciples.
예수님은 우리를 구원하실 뿐 아니라 제자로 부르셨습니다.
A disciple is not only someone who learns the words of Jesus, but someone who becomes like Him and continues His life and mission.
제자는 예수님의 말씀을 배우는 사람일 뿐 아니라, 예수님을 닮아 그분의 삶과 사명을 이어가는 사람입니다.
In Matthew 10, Jesus sends His disciples into the world and tells them that living as His disciples will not be easy.
마태복음 10장에서 예수님은 제자들을 세상으로 보내시며, 제자로 살아가는 길이 쉽지 않음을 말씀하십니다.
There may be misunderstanding and opposition from people, and at times even conflict with our closest family members.
사람들의 오해와 반대가 있을 수 있고, 때로는 가장 가까운 가족과의 갈등도 있을 수 있습니다.
Yet this is the path where God is with us, remembers us, and surely rewards us.
그러나 그 길은 하나님께서 함께하시며 반드시 기억하시고 상 주시는 길입니다.
Through today’s Word, we want to consider together how disciples of Jesus should live.
오늘 말씀을 통해 예수님의 제자는 어떻게 살아가야 하는지 함께 살펴보고자 합니다.
1. We fear God alone and confess Jesus through our lives. (24-33)
하나님만 두려워하며 삶으로 예수님을 시인합니다.
As Jesus sent the twelve disciples into the world, He did not hide the reality they would face.
예수님께서는 열두 제자를 세상으로 파송하시며 가장 먼저 그들이 마주하게 될 현실을 숨기지 않으셨습니다.
He did not say that preaching the gospel would only bring welcome and acceptance.
복음을 전하면 환영만 받을 것이라고 말씀하지 않으셨습니다.
Rather, He said that disciples would walk the same path as their Teacher.
오히려 제자는 스승과 같은 길을 걷게 될 것이라고 하셨습니다.
In verse 24, Jesus says, “A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.”
24절에서 예수님은 “제자가 그 선생보다 높지 못하고 종이 그 상전보다 높지 못하다”고 말씀하십니다.
To follow Jesus as His disciple means not only learning His teaching, but becoming like His life.
제자가 예수님을 따른다는 것은 예수님의 가르침만 배우는 것이 아니라 예수님의 삶을 닮아 가는 것입니다.
If Jesus was misunderstood and criticized by the world, we may also experience such things.
예수님께서 세상으로부터 오해와 비난을 받으셨다면 우리도 그러한 일을 경험할 수 있습니다.
Yet if Jesus served in love, we also must serve in love.
그럼에도 예수님께서 사랑으로 섬기셨다면 우리도 사랑으로 섬겨야 합니다.
If Jesus obeyed God to the end, we also must walk the same path.
예수님께서 끝까지 하나님께 순종하셨다면 우리도 같은 길을 걸어야 합니다.
This is the life of a disciple.
이것이 제자의 삶입니다.
Because this life may bring misunderstanding and criticism, Jesus tells us three times, “Do not be afraid.”
오해와 비난을 받을 수 있는 삶 때문에 예수님은 우리에게 세 번이나 “두려워하지 말라”고 말씀하십니다.
People may misunderstand us.
사람은 우리를 오해할 수 있습니다.
They may even distort our sincere hearts.
우리의 진심을 왜곡할 수도 있습니다.
Sometimes we may suffer loss because of our faith.
때로는 믿음 때문에 손해를 볼 수도 있습니다.
But Jesus tells us to fear God more than people.
그러나 예수님은 사람보다 하나님을 더 두려워하라고 하십니다.
Verse 28 says,
28절은 이렇게 말씀합니다.
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
“몸은 죽여도 영혼은 능히 죽이지 못하는 자들을 두려워하지 말고 오직 몸과 영혼을 능히 지옥에 멸하실 수 있는 이를 두려워하라.”
This does not mean that we should ignore or despise people.
이 말씀은 우리가 사람을 무시해도 된다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
It means that other people's opinions must not become the standard that determines how we live.
다만 사람의 평가가 우리의 삶을 결정하는 기준이 되어서는 안 된다는 말씀입니다.
For God the Father is the One who will ultimately judge our lives.
우리의 인생을 최종적으로 판단하시는 분은 하나님 아버지이시기 때문입니다.
At the same time, this does not mean that we should be terrified of God.
그렇다고 이 말씀이 우리에게 하나님을 무서워하라는 뜻이 아닙니다.
In verses 29–31, Jesus says that not even two sparrows fall to the ground apart from the Father's will, and that He has even numbered the hairs of our heads.
이것은 바로 이어지는 29-31절에서 예수님은 참새 두 마리도 하나님의 허락 없이는 땅에 떨어지지 않고, 우리의 머리카락까지도 다 세신다고 말씀을 통해 알 수 있습니다.
These verses teach us that while God is the righteous Judge, He is also the loving Father who cares for us in every detail.
이 말씀은 하나님은 심판하시는 분이시지만 동시에 우리를 가장 깊이 사랑하시고 가장 세밀하게 돌보시는 아버지이심을 가르쳐 줍니다.
Therefore, to fear God does not mean trembling in terror of punishment.
그러므로 하나님을 두려워하는 것은 우리가 벌을 무서워하여 떠는 것이 아니라,
It means honoring above all the God who loves us most.
우리를 가장 사랑하시는 하나님을 가장 소중하게 여기며 살아가는 것입니다.
Just as loving children do not want to grieve their parents, we treasure God's will because we revere Him.
부모를 사랑하는 자녀가 부모의 마음을 상하게 하지 않으려는 것처럼, 우리도 하나님을 경외하기 때문에 하나님의 뜻을 소중히 여기는 것입니다.
Therefore, Jesus concludes in verse 32,
그래서 예수님은 32절에서 결론을 말씀하십니다.
“Whoever acknowledges Me before others, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven.”
“누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 시인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 시인할 것이요.”
Many people think this simply means saying, “I believe in Jesus.”
많은 사람들은 이 말씀을 “예수 믿는다고 말하는 것” 정도로 생각합니다.
Of course, that is included.
물론 그것도 포함됩니다.
But throughout the Gospel of Matthew, acknowledging Jesus is more than a confession with our lips. It means living the life of Jesus.
그러나 마태복음 전체를 보면 예수님을 시인한다는 것은 입술만의 고백이 아닙니다. 예수님의 삶을 살아내는 것입니다.
What kind of life did Jesus describe for us in the Sermon on the Mount?
산상수훈에서 예수님은 우리에게 어떤 삶을 보여 주셨습니까?
He spoke of being gentle, merciful, peacemakers, loving even our enemies, and enduring persecution for righteousness.
온유한 사람, 긍휼히 여기는 사람, 화평하게 하는 사람, 원수까지 사랑하는 사람, 의를 위하여 핍박 받는 사람의 삶을 말씀하셨습니다.
To acknowledge Jesus before others is to live that kind of life.
사람들 앞에서 예수님을 시인한다는 것은 바로 그런 삶을 살아가는 것입니다.
Through our words, our character, our choices, and our relationships, people should be able to say, “That person is becoming more like Jesus.”
우리의 말투와 성품, 우리의 선택과 관계 속에서 사람들이 “저 사람은 예수님을 닮아 가는 사람이구나.”라고 느끼게 되는 것입니다.
Today, the world watches our lives before it listens to our words.
오늘날 세상은 기독교인들의 목소리를 듣기 전에 우리의 삶을 먼저 바라봅니다.
If we speak the truth but lose love, preach the gospel but lose humility, or talk about faith without practicing forgiveness, people will be disappointed by our lives instead of meeting Jesus through us.
우리가 옳은 말을 하면서도 사랑을 잃어버리거나, 복음을 전하면서도 겸손을 잃어버린다면, 또 신앙을 말하면서도 용서를 실천하지 않는다면 사람들은 우리의 말을 통해 예수님을 만나기보다 우리의 모습을 통해 실망하게 됩니다.
Jesus is looking for disciples who reveal the Kingdom of God through their lives rather than people who merely proclaim doctrine loudly.
예수님은 교리를 크게 외치는 사람보다 자신의 삶으로 하나님 나라를 보여 주는 제자를 찾으십니다.
The world sees us becoming like Jesus more through our character than through our arguments.
세상은 우리의 논리보다 우리의 인격을 통해 예수님을 닮아가는 것을 보게 됩니다.
We often live overly concerned about what others think of us.
우리는 사람들의 시선을 너무 의식하며 살아갈 때가 많습니다.
“What will others think of me?”
“저 사람이 나를 어떻게 생각할까?”
“What if I suffer a loss?”
“혹시 손해를 보지는 않을까?”
“What if I am misunderstood?”
“괜히 오해받지 않을까?”
“What if living as a faithful Christian makes my life uncomfortable?”
“믿는 사람답게 살다가 내가 불편해지면 어떡하지?”
These fears leave us discouraged and hesitant.
이런 두려움은 우리를 지치게 하고 위축되게 합니다.
But Jesus invites us to live not under the gaze of people, but under the loving gaze of our Heavenly Father.
그러나 예수님은 우리에게 사람들의 시선에서 벗어나 아버지의 시선 안에서 살아가라고 초대하십니다.
“I call you My child.”
“나는 너를 내 자녀라 부른다.”
“You are already precious and honored.”
“너는 이미 존귀한 존재다.”
“Do not be shaken by the opinions of others.”
“사람들의 평가에 흔들리지 말아라.”
“I care even for a single sparrow.”
“나는 참새 한 마리도 돌본다.”
“I know your life better than anyone.”
“나는 너의 삶을 누구보다 잘 안다.”
“I have numbered even the hairs of your head.”
“나는 너의 머리카락까지 세고 있다.”
“I know every tear and every labor of yours.”
“나는 너의 눈물과 수고를 모두 알고 있다.”
“Look to Me, not to the approval of people.”
“사람들의 인정이 아니라 나를 바라보아라.”
“Do not be afraid to become like Jesus.”
“예수님을 닮아가는 길을 두려워하지 말아라.”
“Do not lose heart when you are misunderstood.”
“오해를 받아도 낙심하지 말아라.”
“Do not lose your faith even when you suffer loss.”
“손해를 보아도 믿음을 잃지 말아라.”
“I am with you always.”
“나는 끝까지 너와 함께한다.”
God will never forget such a life.
그러나 하나님께서는 그런 삶을 결코 잊지 않으십니다.
Let us live today fearing God alone.
오늘도 하나님만 두려워하며 살아갑시다.
May our reverence for God set us free, and may our lives become the most beautiful testimony that confesses Jesus before the world.
그 경외함이 우리를 자유롭게 하고, 우리의 삶이 예수님을 시인하는 가장 아름다운 복음의 증거가 되기를 소망합니다.
2. We love the Lord above all and take up our cross to follow Him. (34–39)
주님을 가장 사랑하여 자기 십자가를 지고 따릅니다.
In the first point, Jesus taught us to fear God more than people.
첫 번째 대지에서 예수님은 사람보다 하나님을 더 두려워하라고 말씀하셨습니다.
Now Jesus goes one step further and shows us what it looks like to love God above all else.
이제 예수님은 한 걸음 더 나아가 하나님을 가장 사랑하는 삶이 어떤 모습으로 나타나는지 말씀하십니다.
Verse 34 sounds shocking to many people.
34절은 많은 사람들에게 충격적으로 들립니다.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
“내가 세상에 화평을 주러 온 줄로 생각하지 말라. 화평이 아니요 검을 주러 왔노라.”
Jesus came as the Prince of Peace, so why does He speak of a sword?
예수님은 평화의 왕으로 오셨는데 왜 검을 말씀하실까요?
This does not mean that Jesus came to start conflicts.
이 말씀은 예수님께서 싸움을 일으키러 오셨다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
Nor does it mean that we should fight with our families because we believe in Him.
예수님을 믿는다는 이유로 가족과 싸우라는 말씀도 아닙니다.
Jesus taught us to love our enemies and to be peacemakers.
예수님은 오히려 원수를 사랑하고 화평하게 하는 자가 되라고 가르치셨기 때문입니다.
Then what does it mean that He came to bring a sword?
그러면 검을 주러 오셨다는 말씀의 의미는 무엇일까요?
Here, the “sword” represents the reality that the decision to follow Jesus may sometimes bring conflict even within our closest relationships.
여기서 '검'은 예수님을 따르는 결단이 때로는 가장 가까운 관계 속에서도 갈등을 가져올 수 있다는 사실을 의미합니다.
When we make Jesus the highest priority in our lives, our values and priorities inevitably change.
우리가 예수님을 삶의 가장 중요한 분으로 모시기 시작하면, 우리의 가치관과 삶의 우선순위가 달라질 수 밖에 없습니다.
Sometimes even our own families may not understand that change.
그런데 그 변화는 때로 가족들에게도 이해받지 못할 수 있습니다.
So Jesus quotes the prophet Micah and says that a person's enemies may be members of his own household (vv. 35–36).
그래서 예수님은 이어서 미가서의 말씀을 인용하시며, 사람의 원수가 자기 집안 식구가 될 수도 있다고 말씀하십니다(35-36절).
In those days, many people were rejected or persecuted by their own families simply because they believed in Jesus.
당시에는 실제로 예수님을 믿는다는 이유만으로 가족에게 버림받거나 박해를 받는 경우가 많았습니다.
Our situation today may be somewhat different.
오늘 우리의 상황은 당시와 조금 다를 수 있습니다.
In most cases, our families do not oppose our faith itself, but they often struggle to understand the sacrifices we make for Jesus.
대부분의 경우 가족은 우리가 예수님을 믿는 것 자체를 반대하기보다, 예수님 때문에 희생하는 삶을 이해하지 못하는 경우가 더 많습니다.
“Why do you spend so much time serving the church?”
“왜 그렇게까지 교회를 위해 시간을 쓰느냐?”
“Can't you slow down and get some rest?”
“조금은 쉬면서 살아도 되지 않느냐?”
“Shouldn't your family come first?”
“가족이 먼저 아니냐?”
“Isn't that level of commitment enough?”
“그 정도 헌신이면 충분하지 않느냐?”
These words are not always spoken out of hostility.
이런 말은 반드시 악의에서 나오는 것이 아닙니다.
Often they come from people who genuinely love us.
오히려 우리를 사랑하기 때문에 하는 말일 수도 있습니다.
Parents want their children to have an easier life, spouses want more time together, and children long for more attention from their parents.
부모는 자녀가 편안하게 살기를 원하고, 배우자는 함께하는 시간을 더 갖고 싶어 하며, 자녀는 부모의 관심을 더 받고 싶어 합니다.
Those desires are understandable.
그 마음은 충분히 이해할 수 있습니다.
But in verse 37, Jesus clearly defines the standard for His disciples.
그러나 예수님은 37절에서 제자의 기준을 분명히 하십니다.
“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me...”
“아버지나 어머니를 나보다 더 사랑하는 자는 내게 합당하지 아니하고…”
Jesus is not telling us to love our families less.
예수님은 가족을 덜 사랑하라고 말씀하지 않으십니다.
He calls us to give the highest place in our hearts to Jesus for our true joy and lasting happiness.
우리의 진정한 행복을 위해 우리의 가장 높은 자리를 예수님께 드리라고 말씀하십니다.
We love our families. Our work is important. Our health is important.
가족도 사랑합니다. 일도 중요합니다. 건강도 중요합니다.
But above all these, the One we must love first is Jesus.
그러나 그 모든 것보다 먼저 사랑해야 할 분은 예수님이십니다.
Only when our love for Him remains first can we truly love every other relationship rightly.
왜냐하면 그 사랑이 흔들리지 않을 때 비로소 우리는 모든 관계를 바르게 사랑할 수 있기 때문입니다.
Therefore, Jesus says in verse 38,
그래서 예수님은 38절에서 말씀하십니다.
“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.”
“또 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따르지 않는 자도 내게 합당하지 아니하니라.”
To the people of that day, the cross was not a decoration but an instrument of execution.
십자가는 당시 사람들에게 장식품이 아니라 죽음의 형틀이었습니다.
To take up our cross means laying down our own will and choosing the will of Jesus.
자기 십자가를 진다는 것은 자기 뜻을 내려놓고 예수님의 뜻을 선택하는 삶입니다.
It means choosing obedience over comfort and God's kingdom over personal gain.
편안한 길보다 순종의 길을, 자기 유익보다 하나님 나라를 선택하는 삶입니다.
Verse 39 gives the conclusion.
39절은 그 결론입니다.
“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for My sake will find it.”
“자기 목숨을 얻는 자는 잃을 것이요 나를 위하여 자기 목숨을 잃는 자는 얻으리라.”
The world tells us to live for ourselves—to gain more, achieve more, and live more comfortably.
세상은 자신을 위해 살라고 말합니다. 더 많이 소유하고, 더 높이 올라가고, 더 편안하게 살라고 합니다.
But Jesus says the opposite.
그러나 예수님은 반대로 말씀하십니다.
“Do not live only for yourself.”
“너 자신만 붙잡고 살지 말아라.”
“If you do, you will lose what matters most.”
“그러면 가장 소중한 것을 잃게 된다.”
“Deny yourself in order to follow Me.”
“나를 따르기 위해 너 자신을 부인하여라.”
“This is the path that leads to life.”
“그 길이 생명의 길이다.”
“When you lay down yourself, you will find true life.”
“너를 내려놓을 때 참된 생명을 얻는다.”
“Do not be afraid to follow Me.”
“나를 따르는 길을 두려워하지 말아라.”
“I will give you true life.”
“내가 너에게 참된 생명을 준다.”
Throughout life, we often stand at crossroads where we must make important choices.
우리는 살아가면서 선택의 기로에 설 때가 많습니다.
We must decide how to use the time, health, work, abilities, resources, and experiences God has entrusted to us.
우리는 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 시간과 건강, 직업과 재능, 물질과 경험을 어디에 사용할 것인가를 결정해야 합니다.
The world tells us to use all of these only for our own success and security.
세상은 그것을 모두 자신의 성공과 안정만을 위해 사용하라고 말합니다.
Sometimes even those closest to us, who sincerely love us, may encourage us to do the same.
때로는 신앙이 좋아 보이는 가까운 가족조차도 그렇게 우리에게 권면을 할 수 있습니다.
But what God has given us is not meant only for ourselves.
그러나 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 것은 단지 우리 자신을 위한 것이 아닙니다.
Our careers, education, talents, financial resources, and life experiences are all resources entrusted to us as stewards for God's kingdom.
우리의 직업도, 우리의 학력도, 우리의 재능도, 우리의 경제력도, 우리의 경험도 모두 하나님 나라를 위해 맡겨 주신 청지기의 자원입니다.
Those who love the Lord above all willingly place everything into His hands.
주님을 가장 사랑하는 사람은 그 모든 것을 기꺼이 주님의 손에 올려드립니다.
Of course, this is not an easy path.
물론 그것이 쉬운 길은 아닙니다.
At times we may be misunderstood, and it may even seem as though we are suffering loss.
때로는 오해를 받을 수도 있고, 손해를 보는 것처럼 보일 수도 있습니다.
But God will never let our sacrifice be in vain.
그러나 하나님은 우리의 희생을 헛되게 하지 않으십니다.
What is amazing is that Jesus did not simply tell us to carry our cross.
놀라운 것은, 예수님은 우리에게 십자가만 지라고 말씀하지 않으셨다는 것입니다.
He first carried the cross Himself for our sins.
먼저 예수님 자신이 우리의 죄를 위해 십자가를 지셨습니다.
We do not sacrifice ourselves in order to be loved. Rather, because we have already been loved, we joyfully offer ourselves to Him.
우리는 사랑받기 위해 희생하는 것이 아니라, 이미 사랑받았기 때문에 기쁨으로 자신을 드리는 것입니다.
Therefore, our devotion is not a burdensome obligation but a grateful response to God's grace.
그러므로 우리의 헌신은 억지 의무가 아니라 은혜에 대한 감사의 응답입니다.
Let us entrust everything we have to the Lord each day.
오늘도 우리에게 주어진 모든 것을 주님께 맡기며 살아갑시다.
Though the path may sometimes seem narrow and difficult, true life and joy, which Jesus has promised, await us at the end of the journey.
그 길이 때로는 좁고 어려워 보여도, 그 길 끝에는 예수님께서 약속하신 참된 생명과 기쁨이 기다리고 있습니다.
3. We honor and serve those who live for the gospel. (40–42)
복음을 위해 사는 사람들을 귀하게 여기고 섬깁니다.
Jesus teaches His disciples that living for the gospel is never a battle we fight alone.
예수님은 제자들에게 복음을 전하는 삶이 결코 혼자만의 싸움이 아님을 말씀하십니다.
God promises to honor not only those who proclaim the gospel, but also those who receive them and join in supporting their ministry.
하나님께서는 복음을 전하는 사람뿐 아니라, 그들을 받아들이고 함께 세워 가는 사람들까지도 귀하게 여기신다고 약속하십니다.
In verse 40, Jesus makes a remarkable statement.
40절에서 예수님은 놀라운 말씀을 하십니다.
“Anyone who welcomes you welcomes Me, and anyone who welcomes Me welcomes the One who sent Me.”
“너희를 영접하는 자는 나를 영접하는 것이요, 나를 영접하는 자는 나 보내신 이를 영접하는 것이니라.”
Here, “to welcome” means more than opening the door or offering a meal.
여기서 '영접한다'는 것은 단순히 문을 열어 주거나 식사를 대접하는 것을 의미하지 않습니다.
It means receiving those who proclaim the gospel as God's servants, sharing in their ministry, and supporting them.
복음을 전하는 사람을 하나님의 사람으로 받아들이고, 그의 사역에 마음을 함께하며 돕는 것을 말합니다.
Jesus did not see His disciples as ordinary individuals.
예수님은 제자들을 단순한 개인으로 보지 않으셨습니다.
They were people sent into the world to continue His mission.
제자들은 예수님의 사명을 이어받아 세상으로 보냄을 받은 사람들이었습니다.
Therefore, to welcome a disciple is to welcome Jesus, and to welcome Jesus is to welcome God the Father who sent Him.
그래서 제자를 영접하는 것은 곧 예수님을 영접하는 것이고, 예수님을 영접하는 것은 하나님 아버지를 영접하는 것이라고 말씀하십니다.
The same principle continues in verse 41.
41절에서도 같은 원리가 이어집니다.
Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward.
선지자를 선지자로 영접하는 사람은 선지자의 상을 받고, 의인을 의인으로 영접하는 사람은 의인의 상을 받는다고 하십니다.
This does not mean that only prophets or righteous people receive a reward.
이 말씀은 선지자나 의인만 상을 받는다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
It means that God equally honors those who respect and support those who serve His work.
하나님의 일을 하는 사람을 존중하고 함께 세우는 사람도 하나님께서 동일하게 귀하게 여기신다는 뜻입니다.
Then in verse 42, Jesus speaks even of the smallest act of service.
그리고 42절에서는 더욱 작은 섬김까지 말씀하십니다.
“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
“또 누구든지 제자의 이름으로 이 작은 자 중 하나에게 냉수 한 그릇이라도 주는 자는... 결단코 상을 잃지 아니하리라.”
A cup of cold water was one of the simplest expressions of kindness in the hot climate of Palestine.
냉수 한 그릇은 당시 팔레스타인의 더운 기후에서 가장 작은 친절의 표현이었습니다.
Jesus does not remember only great accomplishments.
예수님은 큰 업적만 기억하시는 분이 아닙니다.
He never forgets even the smallest act of kindness, encouragement, or help shown to those who live for the gospel.
복음을 위해 살아가는 사람을 향한 작은 관심, 작은 격려, 작은 도움까지도 결코 잊지 않으십니다.
This truth applies to the church today as well.

복음을 위해 헌신하는 사람들은 목회자나 선교사만이 아닙니다.
They include those who pray for the church, serve through worship, teach children, and faithfully serve in the kitchen.
교회를 위해 기도하는 사람, 찬양으로 섬기는 사람, 아이들을 가르치는 교사, 주방에서 봉사하는 손길들이 있습니다.
They also include those who visit the sick, warmly welcome newcomers, and faithfully serve the church in unseen ways.
또 환우를 심방하는 성도, 새가족을 따뜻하게 맞이하는 성도, 보이지 않는 곳에서 교회를 위해 헌신하는 모든 사람이 복음을 위해 살아가는 사람들입니다.
We often think that only visible ministries are important.
우리는 종종 눈에 띄는 사역만 중요하게 생각합니다.
But God remembers every tear and every drop of sweat offered in places no one else sees.
그러나 하나님께서는 보이지 않는 곳에서 흘린 땀과 눈물도 동일하게 기억하십니다.
Therefore, a healthy church does not see one another as competitors.

It is not a community that asks, “Who has done more?” but one that asks, “How can we build one another up?”

Yet we often compare ourselves with others.

“I can't do as much as that person.” “What I do isn't very important.” “It seems like no one notices.”

Such thoughts leave us weary and discouraged.
그런 생각은 우리의 마음을 지치게 합니다.
But Jesus says that He remembers even a cup of cold water.
그러나 예수님은 냉수 한 그릇도 기억하신다고 말씀하십니다.
There is no small act of service in God's eyes.
하나님께는 작은 섬김이 없습니다.
“I remember the prayers you have offered.”

In the end, the kind of community God desires is one that builds one another up.
결국 하나님께서 원하시는 공동체는 서로를 높이는 공동체입니다.
There are those who fear God alone and confess Jesus through their lives, and there are those who love the Lord above all and take up their cross.
하나님만 두려워하며 예수님을 삶으로 시인하는 사람들이 있고, 주님을 가장 사랑하여 자기 십자가를 지는 사람들이 있습니다.
Through a church that honors such people and serves alongside them, God continues to reveal the gospel to the world today.
그런 사람들을 귀하게 여기고 함께 섬기는 사람들이 있는 교회를 통하여 하나님께서는 오늘도 복음을 세상 가운데 드러내십니다.
May we also be built together as such disciples of Jesus and as such a church.
우리도 그런 예수님의 제자로, 그리고 그런 교회로 함께 세워져 가기를 소망합니다.

Living as a disciple of Jesus is not a calling for only a special few.
예수님의 제자로 살아간다는 것은 특별한 사람만의 삶이 아닙니다.
It is a life of fearing God alone, revealing Jesus through our lives, loving the Lord above all, taking up our cross, and honoring and serving those who live for the gospel.
