God’s Chosen One Who Pleases Him
이사야 Isaiah 42:1–9
우리는 모두 “정의”가 실현되기를 원합니다.
We all want to see “justice” realized.
그런데 막상 정의를 말하면 관계가 깨지고 마음이 다치기도 합니다.
But when we actually speak about justice, relationships can break and hearts can get hurt.
가정에서는 옳은 말을 하다가 더 큰 싸움이 되고,
At home, even right words can turn into a bigger fight.
직장에서는 공정함을 주장하다가 미움을 받기도 하며,
At work, insisting on fairness can make people dislike us.
교회 안에서도 바르게 세우려는 마음이 오히려 상처를 남길 때가 있습니다.
Even in the church, a desire to set things right can end up leaving wounds.
그래서 우리는 “정의는 꼭 큰소리로 이겨야만 세워지는가?”하고 묻게 됩니다.
So we ask, “Does justice have to be established by winning with a loud voice?”
또 “연약한 사람을 살리면서도 옳음을 지킬 수는 없는가?”라고 물을 수 있습니다.
And we may also ask, “Can we hold on to what is right while still giving life to the weak?”
오늘 말씀에서 하나님은 당신이 기뻐하시는 택한 종을 보여 주십니다.
In today’s passage, God shows us His chosen servant whom He delights in.
그 종은 이방에 정의를 베풀고, 이방에 빛이 되며, 이방에 새 일을 선포합니다.
That servant brings justice to the nations, becomes a light to the nations, and proclaims new things to the nations.
우리는 오늘 말씀을 통해 하나님이 기뻐하시는 삶의 방식이 무엇인지,
Through today’s Word, we want to hear what kind of way of life pleases God,
그리고 그 방식이 우리의 실제 생활을 어떻게 바꾸는지 함께 듣고자 합니다.
and how that way can change our everyday life.
1 하나님의 사람은 이방에 정의를 베풉니다 (이사야 42:1-4)
God’s people bring justice to the nations
본문에서 하나님은 종을 소개하실 때 이렇게 말씀하십니다.
In the passage, God introduces His servant like this:
“내가 붙드는 나의 종, 내 마음에 기뻐하는 나의 택한 사람”(1절).
“My servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight” (v. 1).
우리가 사람을 볼 때는 보통 ‘그가 무엇을 해냈는지’를 먼저 봅니다.
When we look at someone, we usually first ask what they have accomplished.
하나님이 먼저 강조하시는 것은 종의 실력이 아니라,
But what God emphasizes first is not the servant’s ability.
하나님이 그를 붙잡고 계시다는 사실입니다.
It is the fact that God Himself is holding him.
종의 힘은 자기 안에서 생기는 확신이 아니라,
The servant’s strength is not confidence that rises from within.
하나님께 붙들린 데서 시작됩니다.
It begins with being upheld by God.
그리고 하나님은 “내가 나의 영을 그에게 주었은즉”(1절)이라고 하십니다.
And God says, “I will put my Spirit on him” (v. 1).
즉, 성령께서 그를 하나님의 방식으로 행하도록 이끄신다는 뜻입니다.
That means the Spirit leads him to act in God’s way.
그의 사명은 “그가 이방에 정의를 베풀리라”(1절)라는 말에서 알 수 있습니다.
We learn his mission from this line: “He will bring justice to the nations” (v. 1).
여기서 정의는 ‘누가 옳은지 가려서 이기는 것’이 아닙니다.
Here, justice is not about proving who is right and winning.
하나님이 기준이 우리의 실제 삶에서 드러나는 것입니다.
It is God’s standard becoming visible in our real lives.
가정에서 늘 목소리 큰 사람이 결정권을 독점하고,
If, in a home, the loudest person monopolizes decision-making,
다른 가족은 눈치 보며 말도 못 하고 있다면,
and the rest of the family walks on eggshells and cannot speak,
약한 사람도 안전하게 말할 수 있도록 바꾸어가는 것이 정의입니다.
then justice is working to change the home so the weaker one can speak safely too.
직장에서 편견과 소문 때문에 누군가가 억울한 평가를 받는다면,
If, at work, someone is judged unfairly because of prejudice and rumors,
사실을 확인하고 공정하게 만드는 것이 정의입니다.
then justice is checking the facts and making the process fair.
교회 안에서도 누가 오래 봉사했다는 이유로 무조건 면죄부를 받거나,
Even in the church, if someone receives a free pass just because they have served a long time,
반대로 한 번 실수한 사람을 끝까지 낙인찍는다면,
or if someone who failed once is labeled forever,
그 왜곡을 멈추고 바른 기준을 세우는 것이 정의입니다.
then justice is stopping that distortion and reestablishing the right standard.
정의는 단지 ‘문제 찾기’가 아니라 ‘바른 자리로 돌려놓기’입니다.
Justice is not merely “finding problems.” It is “returning things to their rightful place.”
정의를 세우기 위해 우리에게 큰 목소리가 필요할까요?
Do we need a louder voice in order to establish justice?
본문은 “그는 외치지 아니하며 목소리를 높이지 아니하며 그 소리를 거리에 들리게 하지 아니하며”(2절)라고 말합니다.
The passage says, “He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets” (v. 2).
하나님의 종은 시끄러운 압박으로 사람을 굴복시키지 않습니다.
God’s servant does not force people into submission through noisy pressure.
가정에서 갈등이 생길 때 말싸움으로 상대를 눌러 이기려 하지 않습니다.
When conflict rises at home, he does not try to win by overpowering the other in an argument.
회의 자리에서 상대를 공개적으로 몰아붙여 체면을 깎는 방식으로 해결하려 하지 않습니다.
In a meeting, he does not solve issues by publicly cornering someone and taking away their dignity.
카톡방이나 SNS에서 강한 말로 여론을 만들며 ‘정의’를 주장하지 않습니다.
In a group chat or on social media, he does not create “justice” by stirring up the crowd with harsh words.
조용하다는 것은 피한다는 뜻이 아닙니다.
Being quiet does not mean avoiding the issue.
감정을 키워 이기는 대신, 진실을 세워 회복으로 가는 길을 여는 태도입니다.
It means choosing a posture that opens a path toward restoration by establishing truth, rather than escalating emotions to win.
하나님의 정의는 어떤 모습으로 드러나야 할까요?
So what should God’s justice look like?
“상한 갈대를 꺾지 아니하며 꺼져가는 등불을 끄지 아니하고”(3절).
“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out” (v. 3).
즉, 정의를 세운다고 하면서 사람을 더 망가뜨리지 않는다는 뜻입니다.
In other words, while establishing justice, he does not damage people further.
생활 속에서 우리는 흔히 “옳은 말”을 하다가 사람을 부러뜨릴 때가 많습니다.
In everyday life, we often “speak what is right” and yet break a person.
실수한 사람을 공개적으로 책망해서 마음을 접게 만들고,
We publicly rebuke someone who made a mistake and they shut their heart.
힘들어하는 사람에게 “그건 네 믿음이 약해서야”라고 말해 더 깊은 죄책감에 빠뜨리기도 합니다.
We say to a struggling person, “Your faith is weak,” and push them into deeper guilt.
하나님이 기뻐하시는 종은 다르게 합니다.
But the servant whom God delights in is different.
상한 사람을 ‘더 꺾지’ 않습니다.
He does not “break” a bruised person even more.
거의 꺼져가는 사람을 ‘꺼버리지’ 않습니다.
He does not “snuff out” a person who is almost out.
그러나 이것이 무원칙이라는 뜻은 아닙니다.
Yet this does not mean he has no principles.
본문은 “진실로 정의를 시행할 것이며”(3절)라고 말합니다.
The passage says, “In faithfulness he will bring forth justice” (v. 3).
그러니까 그는 흐리게 덮어 주지도 않고, 차갑게 몰아붙이지도 않습니다.
So he does not cover things over vaguely, and he does not push people harshly either.
진실을 붙들되, 사람을 살리는 방식으로 행합니다.
He holds to the truth, and he acts in a way that gives life.
마지막으로 본문은 “그는 쇠하지 아니하며 낙담하지 아니하고 세상에 정의를 세우기에 이르리니”(4절)라고 말합니다.
Finally, the passage says, “He will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth” (v. 4).
정의를 세우는 일은 한 번 말 잘해서 끝나는 일이 아닙니다.
Establishing justice is not finished by one strong statement.
오래 걸리고, 중간에 오해도 받고, 손해도 볼 수 있습니다.
It takes time, and along the way we may be misunderstood and even lose something.
그래서 쉽게 지칩니다.
So we get tired easily.
그런데 하나님이 기뻐하시는 종은 ‘자기 의지’로 버티는 사람이 아닙니다.
But the servant God delights in is not someone who survives by sheer willpower.
사람의 열심은 어느 순간 지치고, 억울함과 오해 앞에서 마음이 무너질 수 있습니다.
Human zeal eventually wears out, and hearts can collapse under injustice and misunderstanding.
정의를 말하다가 손해를 보거나, “괜히 나섰다”는 후회가 밀려올 때도 있습니다.
Sometimes we suffer loss for speaking about justice, and regret rushes in: “I shouldn’t have gotten involved.”
그런데 하나님의 종은 그때마다 하나님이 붙드시는 손을 다시 붙잡습니다.
But in those moments, God’s servant reaches again for the hand that upholds him.
하나님이 그를 부르셨고, 하나님이 그의 걸음을 책임지신다는 사실이 그를 다시 세웁니다.
The fact that God called him, and that God takes responsibility for his steps, raises him up again.
그래서 그는 오늘 한 번, 내일 한 번, 그렇게 계속 ‘정의의 자리’로 돌아옵니다.
So today once, tomorrow once—he keeps returning to the “place of justice.”
이렇게 하나님이 붙드시는 사람은 속도가 느려도 꺾이지 않고, 결국 하나님이 원하시는 정의가 서는 자리까지 걸어가게 됩니다.
In this way, the one upheld by God may move slowly, but is not broken, and in the end, he will walk all the way to where God’s justice is established.
그래서 “섬들이 그 교훈을 앙망하리라”(4절)는 말씀처럼, 멀리 있는 사람들까지도 하나님이 보여 주시는 길을 소망하게 됩니다.
That is why, as the Word says, “the islands will put their hope in his teaching” (v. 4), even people far away come to hope in the path God reveals.
요즘 마음이 예민하고 쉽게 상한다면, 스스로를 더 몰아세우기보다 우리는 “내가 붙드는 나의 종"이라는 말씀을 기억해야 합니다.
If your heart is sensitive and easily wounded these days, do not drive yourself harder—remember the Word: “my servant, whom I uphold.”
그리고 우리는 “주님이 나를 붙드십니다.”라고 고백해야 하겠습니다.
And we should confess, “The Lord upholds me.”
또 누군가와의 관계에서 ‘바로잡아야 할 일’이 있다면 소리를 높여 이기려 하지 말고, 진실을 말하되 상대의 심지를 꺼뜨리지 않는 방식으로 말해야 하겠습니다.
If there is something that must be set right in a relationship, do not try to win by raising your voice—speak the truth in a way that does not snuff out the other person’s wick.
결과가 더뎌 낙담이 올 때 오늘 다 해결하려 하지 말고, 주님 방식으로 한 걸음만 더 나아가려고 해야 하겠습니다.
When results are slow and discouragement comes, do not try to solve everything today—try to take just one more step in the Lord’s way.
왜냐하면, 하나님이 붙드시는 사람은 느려도 꺾이지 않고, 결국 정의가 서는 자리까지 인도받을 것이기 때문입니다.
Because the one God upholds may be slow, but will not be broken, and in the end will be led to the place where justice is established.
2 하나님의 사람은 이방에 빛이 됩니다 (이사야 42:5-7)
God’s people become a light to the nations
본문은 “빛이 되라”는 명령을 먼저 던지지 않고,
The passage does not first throw at us the command, “Be a light.”
그 빛의 근원이 어디인지부터 보여 줍니다.
Instead, it shows us where that light comes from.
하나님은 “하늘을 창조하여 펴시며 땅과 그 소산을 내시며…
God is the One “who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it…
그 위의 백성에게 호흡을 주시며 그 가운데에 행하는 자에게 영을 주시는” 분이라고 하십니다(5절).
who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it” (v. 5).
우리가 일상에서 빛이 흐려질 때가 언제입니까?
When does our light grow dim in everyday life?
몸이 지치고 마음이 답답해져서 “이젠 더 못 하겠다”는 말이 속에서 올라올 때입니다.
It is when we are worn out and our hearts feel tight, and we find ourselves saying, “I can’t do this anymore.”
그때 본문은 우리를 다그쳐 “네가 좀 더 잘해야지”라고 말하지 않습니다.
At that moment, the passage does not push us, saying, “You need to do better.”
오히려 “숨을 불어넣으시는 하나님을 먼저 바라보라”고 우리를 하나님께 돌려세웁니다.
Rather, it turns us back to God and says, “Look first to the God who breathes life into you.”
빛은 내 기분에서 나오는 게 아니라,
Light does not come from my mood,
하나님이 다시 숨을 불어넣어 주실 때 살아납니다.
it comes alive when God breathes into us again.
그리고 하나님은 종에게 말씀하십니다.
Then God speaks to His servant.
“나 여호와가 의로 너를 불렀은즉.”
“I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness.”
이 부르심은 사람의 평가로 좌우되는 호출이 아닙니다.
This calling is not something controlled by human opinions and evaluations.
예를 들어, 우리가 교회에서 봉사하다가 실수하면 ‘나는 자격이 없다’고 스스로 물러서기 쉽습니다.
For example, when we make a mistake while serving at church, we easily step back and say, “I’m not qualified.”
직장에서 결과가 좋지 않으면 ‘나는 실패자’라고 낙인찍기도 합니다.
When results at work are not good, we may label ourselves, “I’m a failure.”
하지만 하나님은 “의로 불렀다”고 하십니다.
But God says, “I have called you in righteousness.”
하나님이 “의로 너를 불렀다”는 말은 하나님이 옳은 목적을 가지고 부르셨다는 뜻입니다.
To say, “I have called you in righteousness,” means God called you with a right purpose.
그러니까 사람을 이용하려고 부르신 것이 아니라,
That is, He did not call you to use you,
살리고 세우려는 하나님의 바른 뜻으로 부르셨다는 것입니다.
but called you with His right intention—to give life and to build up.
하나님이 “의로 너를 불렀다”는 말은 부르심이 공정하고 정당하다는 뜻입니다.
To say, “I have called you in righteousness,” also means His calling is fair and rightful.
사람처럼 기분 따라, 편견 따라, 내 사람 챙기듯 부르시는 것이 아니라
He does not call like people do—by mood, by bias, or by favoritism—
하나님의 기준에 따라 바로 부르신 것입니다.
He calls according to His true standard.
하나님이 “의로 너를 불렀다”는 말은 하나님이 그 부르심을 끝까지 책임지신다는 뜻입니다.
To say, “I have called you in righteousness,” means God will take responsibility for that calling to the end.
하나님의 의는 ‘맞다/틀리다’의 선언에서 끝나지 않고,
God’s righteousness does not end with a verdict of “right/wrong,”
말씀하신 것을 실제로 이루어 가시는 신실함으로 나타납니다.
it is shown in His faithfulness as He actually carries out what He has spoken.
그래서 “의로 불렀다”는 말은 “불렀으니 붙들고 이루신다”는 약속의 뉘앙스를 가집니다.
So “called in righteousness” carries the promise: “I have called you, and I will uphold you and accomplish it.”
일상 언어로 한 줄로 풀면 이렇게도 말할 수 있습니다.
In everyday words, we can put it like this in one line:
“하나님은 기분이나 상황에 따라 부르신 게 아니라, 옳은 뜻으로 부르셨고 그 부르심을 끝까지 책임지신다.”
“God didn’t call you based on mood or circumstances; He called you with a right purpose, and He will carry that calling through.”
그래서 이어서 “내가 네 손을 잡아 너를 보호하며”라고 하십니다(6절).
That is why He continues, “I will take hold of your hand and keep you” (v. 6).
하나님은 사명을 주시고 멀리서 지켜보는 분이 아니라,
God is not One who gives a mission and watches from far away;
손을 잡고 같이 걸어 주시는 분입니다.
He is the One who holds our hand and walks with us.
일상적으로 말하면,
In everyday terms,
우리의 마음이 무너질 때 “내가 다 해내야 한다”는 압박에서 한 발 물러나
when our hearts begin to collapse, we step back from the pressure of “I have to do it all,”
“주님이 지금도 내 손을 잡고 계신다”는 사실로 다시 균형을 잡는 것입니다.
and regain balance by holding on to this truth: “The Lord is still holding my hand.”
6절의 “너를 세워… 이방의 빛이 되게 하리니”라는 말씀은 사명의 핵심입니다.
The words in verse 6, “I will make you… a light for the Gentiles,” are the heart of the mission.
여기서 빛은 ‘존재감’이 아닙니다.
Here, light is not about “having presence.”
사람을 비추어 평가하는 스포트라이트도 아닙니다.
Nor is it a spotlight that shines on people to judge them.
7절이 그 빛의 성격을 설명합니다.
Verse 7 explains the character of that light:
“소경의 눈을 열며 갇힌 자를 감옥에서 이끌어 내며 흑암에 앉은 자를 옥에서 나오게 하리라.”
“to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”
즉, 빛이 된다는 것은 누군가를 살 수 있게 만드는 방향으로 움직이는 것입니다.
That is, becoming light means moving in a direction that helps someone live.
우리의 일상생활로 옮기면 이런 모습입니다.
In daily life, it looks like this:
누군가가 상황을 오해하고 있을 때,
When someone misunderstands a situation,
비난으로 몰아붙이기보다 사실을 차분히 정리해 주어 ‘보이게’ 하는 것입니다.
instead of driving them with blame, we calmly整理 the facts so they can “see.”
불안과 죄책감에 묶여 있는 사람에게 “왜 그래?”라고 다그치기보다,
When someone is bound by anxiety and guilt, instead of scolding them with “What’s wrong with you?”
함께 기도하고 필요한 도움을 찾도록 동행하여 ‘나오게’ 하는 것입니다.
we pray with them and walk with them to find needed help, so they can “come out.”
교회 안에서도 마찬가지입니다.
It is the same in the church.
말이 빠르고 강한 사람이 분위기를 지배할 때,
When someone with fast and strong words dominates the atmosphere,
조용히 소외된 사람 곁에 앉아 이야기를 들어 주고 연결해 주는 것이 작은 빛입니다.
quietly sitting beside the overlooked person, listening, and connecting them is a small light.
빛은 사람을 눌러 굴복시키는 힘이 아니라,
Light is not the power to press people down into submission;
어둠 속에서 길을 찾게 하는 은혜입니다.
it is grace that helps people find a way in the darkness.
우리가 지쳐서 마음이 어두울 때는 ‘더 노력해서 빛을 내야지’가 아니라,
When we are exhausted and our hearts feel dark, it is not “Try harder to shine,”
“주님, 제게 다시 호흡을 주옵소서”라고 먼저 기도해야 하겠습니다.
but we should first pray, “Lord, give me breath again.”
왜냐하면 5절은 하나님을 "그 위의 백성에게 호흡을 주시며 그 가운데에 행하는 자에게 영을 주시는 분"으로 말하기 때문입니다.
Because verse 5 describes God as the One “who gives breath to the people on it, and life to those who walk on it.”
우리의 숨이 회복되면 판단도, 말도 다시 밝아집니다.
When our breath is restored, our judgment and our words become clear again.
숨이 회복된다는 것은 마음이 눌려 있던 압박이 풀리는 것입니다.
To have our breath restored means the pressure weighing down our hearts loosens.
가슴이 답답하고 “나는 더 못 하겠다”는 생각에 갇혀 있던 상태에서, 다시 한 번 살 수 있겠다는 여지가 생기는 것입니다.
It means that, from being trapped in the thought “I can’t go on,” a new space opens up where we can live again.
숨이 회복된다는 것은 하나님이 주시는 생기로 내 안의 여유·판단·기도·관계가 다시 살아나는 것입니다.
It means that, by the life God gives, inner room, discernment, prayer, and relationships begin to live again.
우리의 사명이 흔들리는 날에는 “주님이 내 손을 잡고 계신다”는 말씀을 붙들어야 하겠습니다.
On days when our sense of calling wavers, we must hold on to this word: “The Lord is holding my hand.”
오늘 해야 할 일을 ‘한 가지’만 정해서 해야겠습니다.
And we should choose just one thing we need to do today and do it.
빛은 한 번에 세상을 밝히는 것이 아니라, 오늘 한 걸음을 비추는 것부터 시작되기 때문입니다.
Because light does not illuminate the whole world at once; it starts by lighting the next step today.
우리가 누군가에게 빛이 되어야 할 상황이 오면 더 강한 말로 이기기보다,
When a moment comes where we need to be light to someone, instead of trying to win with stronger words,
상대가 보게 하고 숨 쉬게 하는 말 한마디를 선택해야 하겠습니다.
we should choose a word that helps them see and breathe.
왜냐하면 우리의 그 한마디가 감옥 문을 여는 빛이 될 수 있을 것이기 때문입니다.
Because that one word can become light that opens a prison door.
3 하나님의 사람은 이방에 새 일을 선포합니다 (이사야 42:8-9)
God’s people proclaim new things to the nations
본문에서 하나님은 “새 일”을 말씀하시면서 먼저 기준을 세우십니다.
In this passage, as God speaks of “new things,” He first sets the standard.
“나는 여호와니 이는 내 이름이라. 나는 내 영광을 다른 자에게 주지 아니하며…”(8절).
“I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another…” (v. 8).
일상으로 가져오면 이런 질문이 생깁니다.
In everyday life, this question naturally arises.
우리가 ‘새로움’을 말할 때, 그 중심에 누가 있습니까?
When we talk about something “new,” who is at the center of it?
내 성취, 내 아이디어, 내 이미지가 중심이 되면 새로움이 곧 ‘자기 과시’가 되기 쉽습니다.
If my achievement, my ideas, or my image becomes the center, “newness” easily turns into self-display.
그러나 하나님이 말씀하시는 새 일은 방향이 다릅니다.
But the new thing God speaks of moves in a different direction.
주인공은 사람이 아니라 하나님입니다.
The main character is not a person, but God.
새 일을 선포한다는 것은 “하나님의 하나님 되심이 드러나는 일”을 말하는 것입니다.
To proclaim the new thing means to speak of what reveals God as God.
그래서 8절은 새 일을 시작할 때, 사람을 드러내려는 마음이 아니라 하나님의 영광을 먼저 바라보라고 가르칩니다.
So verse 8 teaches that when we begin the new thing, we should not try to highlight ourselves, but first fix our eyes on God’s glory.
9절에서 하나님은 과거와 미래를 한 줄로 연결하십니다.
In verse 9, God connects the past and the future in one line.
“보라 전에 예언한 일이 이미 이루었느니라.”
“See, the former things have taken place.”
하나님은 말만 하시는 분이 아니라, 말씀하신 것을 실제로 이루어 오신 분입니다.
God is not One who only speaks; He is the One who has actually fulfilled what He has spoken.
그래서 “이제 내가 새 일을 알리노라. 그 일이 일어나기 전 너희에게 이르노라”(9절)라고 하십니다.
That is why He says, “Now I declare new things; before they spring into being I announce them to you” (v. 9).
여기서 중요한 점은 ‘새 일’이 갑자기 튀어나오는 이벤트가 아니라는 것입니다.
The important point here is that the “new thing” is not a sudden, random event.
하나님은 과거에 약속을 이루셨던 것처럼, 앞으로 이루실 일도 미리 말씀해 주셔서 우리가 그 말씀을 붙잡고 흔들리지 않게 하십니다.
Just as God fulfilled His promises in the past, He tells us beforehand what He will do, so that we can hold on to His word and not be shaken.
우리가 살면서 가장 불안한 순간은 ‘앞이 전혀 안 보일 때’입니다.
One of the most anxious moments in life is when we cannot see what lies ahead at all.
가족 문제, 건강 문제, 재정 문제, 관계의 문제는 특히 그렇습니다.
Family issues, health issues, financial issues, and relationship issues are especially like that.
하나님은 문제가 생긴 뒤에야 말씀하시는 분이 아닙니다.
God is not One who speaks only after trouble happens.
일이 시작되기 전에 먼저 말씀하셔서 우리의 마음이 흔들리지 않게 하십니다.
He speaks first before things begin, so that our hearts will not be shaken.
즉, 새 일을 선포한다는 것은 사건이 터진 뒤에 해석해 주는 것이 아니라,
That is, to proclaim the new thing is not to interpret events only after they explode,
사건이 오기 전에 하나님이 누구신지 붙들게 해 주는 것입니다.
but to hold on to who God is before the events come.
그 말씀이 두려움의 파도를 넘어가게 하는 손잡이가 됩니다.
That word becomes the handhold that helps us cross over the waves of fear.
그리고 이 “선포”는 실제 생활에서 ‘말 한마디’로 드러납니다.
And this “proclamation” shows up in real life through a single word we speak.
예를 들어, 교회나 가정에서 어떤 위기가 오면 사람들은 쉽게 말합니다.
For example, when a crisis comes at church or at home, people easily say:
“이제 끝났다.” “가망이 없다.” “또 망했다.”
“It’s over.” “There’s no hope.” “We’ve failed again.”
그런데 새 일을 믿는 사람은 다르게 말합니다.
But a person who believes in God’s new work speaks differently.
“하나님은 영광을 다른 데 주지 않으신다.”
“God will not give His glory to another.”
“하나님은 이미 이루신 분이다.”
“God is the One who has already fulfilled His word.”

Let’s say it together once.

우리의 이 선포는 근거 없는 긍정이 아니라,
This proclamation is not groundless optimism,
하나님이 이루어 오신 신실하심에 기대어 내뱉는 믿음의 말입니다.
it is a word of faith spoken by leaning on God’s proven faithfulness.
동시에 이것은 무책임한 낙관이 아니라,
At the same time, it is not irresponsible positivity,
삶의 방향을 하나님께 다시 돌려놓는 고백입니다.
it is a confession that turns the direction of our life back to God.
새 일은 ‘내가 새 사람이 되겠다는 결심’만으로 시작되지 않습니다.
The new thing does not begin merely with my resolution to “be a new person.”
하나님이 주인 되시는 자리로 마음이 돌아갈 때 시작됩니다.
It begins when the heart returns to the place where God is Lord.
요즘 ‘새롭게 해보자’는 마음이 오히려 부담으로 느껴진다면,
If these days the thought “Let me start fresh” feels like pressure,
“주님, 제 삶의 중심을 제 영광이 아니라 주님의 영광으로 다시 돌려놓게 하소서.”라고 기도해야 하겠습니다.
we should pray, “Lord, turn the center of my life back—not to my glory, but to Your glory.”
중심이 바뀌면 마음의 압박이 줄어듭니다.
When the center changes, the pressure on the heart begins to lessen.
과거의 실패가 계속 떠올라 발목을 잡을 때,
When past failures keep coming back and grabbing our ankles,
“전에 예언한 일이 이미 이루었느니라.”라는 말씀을 붙들어야 하겠습니다.
we must hold on to this word: “The former things have taken place.”
하나님은 내 과거보다 크십니다.
God is greater than my past.
그리고, 하나님은 ‘이미 이루시는’ 분입니다.
And God is the One who fulfills—who has already shown He does.
그러니 “나는 끝났다” 대신 “하나님은 여기서도 일하신다”로 우리의 말을 바꾸어야 하겠습니다.
So instead of saying, “I’m finished,” we must change our words to, “God is at work here too.”
불안한 상황 속에서 무엇을 선포할지 모르겠다면,
If in an anxious situation you do not know what to proclaim,
“주님이 주인이십니다.” 또는 “하나님이 새 일을 이루십니다.”라고 고백해야 하겠습니다.
confess, “The Lord is Lord,” or “God is bringing about His new work.”
그 한 문장이 오늘 하루의 방향을 잡아 주고, 마음을 다시 살리는 통로가 될 것입니다.
That one sentence will set the direction of today and become a channel that revives the heart again.
하나님이 기뻐하시는 택한 사람은 세상을 자기 힘으로 바꾸려는 사람이 아닙니다.
The chosen one who pleases God is not someone who tries to change the world by their own strength.
하나님이 붙드시는 사람이며,
He is someone God upholds,
하나님이 주시는 영으로 하나님의 방식대로 살아가는 사람입니다.
and someone who lives in God’s way by the Spirit God gives.
그래서 그는 이방에 정의를 베풀되 큰소리로 사람을 꺾지 않고,
So he brings justice to the nations without crushing people with a loud voice,
이방에 빛이 되되, 죄를 들춰 정죄하는 빛이 아니라, 어둠 속에서 빠져나올 길을 보여 주는 빛이 됩니다.
and he becomes a light to the nations—not a light that exposes sin to condemn, but a light that shows a way out of darkness.
또한 사람을 부끄럽게 만드는 빛이 아니라, 눈을 뜨게 하고 숨통을 트이게 하는 빛이 됩니다.
And it is not a light that shames people, but a light that helps them see and breathe again.

He proclaims the new work to the nations, not for human glory, but to reveal God’s name and faithfulness.

Therefore, what we need is not greater ability, but faith that is upheld by the Lord’s hand and obeys one step today.

우리를 붙드시는 주님,
Lord who upholds us,
우리가 주님이 우리의 손을 잡고 계심을 기억하며,
help us remember that You are holding our hand,
